I watched the Blu Ray last night and is it just me, or is the picture quite bad? I can't be sure as I recently got a new plasma TV and I'm getting used to it.

There's quite a few scenes where it does look a tad wonky, but I put that down to compression more than anything else.

I tried some films to contrast and compare and they looked just fine.

I watched it on dvd recently and it looked fine.Another case where the dvd is a better watch than the blu ray.

paulyboy -> RE: The Raid (29/1/2013 3:19:10 PM)

The Blu-Ray is representative of the source, it's a very low budget, intentionally grimey looking film shot digitally in low light, it was never going to pop off the screen. That said, I'd still expect it to outshine the DVD in overall detail, colour reproduction and black levels. If anyone thinks the DVD looks "better" though, be my guest.

On a different note, if you're interested in following it, Mr. Evans is currently tweeting daily updates of the Berandal shoot.

So...The Raid 2 is a bit fucking awesome isn't it? Bloody (quite literally) epic film making!

DONOVAN KURTWOOD -> RE: The Raid (12/8/2014 8:35:14 AM)

It is good yes although it's too long IMO. I've seen it twice now and i enjoyed i more 2nd time around but i genuinely feel it should be shorter.

Hard not to agree with this to at least some extent, it could do with 15 minutes or so trimming from the mid-section, just to up the pace a bit.

Mind you, when that last 45 minutes kick-in with that series of assassinations, holy shiiiiiiiit!

One of my favourite cinema experiences this year actually, had to travel quite a way at some ungodly hour to catch a screening, but there was maybe 20 or so guys including me and a friend in the cinema, all clearly lapping it up, with people laughing out loud at the absurdly violent action sequences, the epic final scrap in the kitchen even got a round of applause.

Great film.

romet6 -> RE: The Raid (17/8/2014 11:11:25 AM)

I really loved this movie and I don't have any big complaints with it ...badass indeed.

I like it more than the sequel.

kingalan -> RE: The Raid (23/8/2014 11:53:55 AM)

The best action film of at least the last ten years, hands down. Just about pips the sequel mainly due to the tight conceit and pace. There's a real sense of desperation underpinning the set-pieces in the first film which make it borderline horror at times. It's a genuinely nightmarish situation and every action sequence carries that weight.

The sequel is amazing (and the set-pieces are arguably better) but that sense of dread is lost.

It's in serious need of an edit. A good 45 minutes at least. I enjoyed the first (I didn't love it) but 2 meandered. A lot. Great fight scenes again when they occurred, but too far and between for what really isn't a plot that requires 2.5 hours of screentime.

kingalan -> RE: The Raid (25/8/2014 7:27:46 PM)

I'd agree with that. It's overlong by at least half an hour. If Evans makes The Raid 3 I think a tight conceit like the first one, would be wise. It would nicely bookend a trilogy and would allow the first and third films to act almost as opening and closing sequences to an epic story.

rich -> RE: The Raid (15/9/2014 12:58:56 AM)

I greatly anticipate seeing the sequel in the next week or so, but I can imagine the problems you guys had being a thing when they are less constrained by location / budget. Also they never intended Berendal as a direct sequel from what I recall. Surprised this hasn't really taken any money though next to the original, wasn't there a lot of marketing?

There were massive posters on the tube with a quote saying "It's The Dark Knight of action movies".... [&:]

rich -> RE: The Raid (15/9/2014 5:46:40 PM)

Eh, I was just surprised - we were talking about how little budget the first one had and did a comparison to box office on the sequel.

rich -> RE: The Raid (22/10/2014 10:24:53 PM)

Okay so part 2 is indeed about 40 minutes too long. But that action is worth the wait.

Scott_ -> RE: The Raid (27/10/2014 10:37:48 PM)

It's running time is perfect. I could've gone for more. [:D]
