Qwerty Norris -> RE: RIP Adam Yauch (4/5/2012 6:22:13 PM)

Just noticed this literally 2 minutes ago.

Love the Beasties & I knew he was battling cancer, still gutted though. [:(]

RIP Adam.

moontheloon -> RE: RIP Adam Yauch (4/5/2012 6:28:45 PM)

Just saw this on the BBC and I am shocked. I knew he was ill over the last few years, but all indications were that he was getting better and beating the cancer. I know the report said it hadn't been confirmed that was the cause yet, but I would assume it played a part.

I am a big Beastie Boys fan, not least because they not only made great music but also seemed like genuinely nice people to go with it. They also weren't afraid of being political, both through their albums (To the 5 boroughs in particular) and through their actions, being supporters of the Free Tibet campaign for example or donating money from their concerts to various charities.

Adam Yauch's loss will be felt through the music community, and probably through a wider community too. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing and my thoughts go out to his friends, family and band mates. 47 is no age at all. RIP

I don't usually do this on forums or Twitter but I'm just so gutted about this news. I'm close to my forties and I've grown with Beastie Boys since a young teenager, I've seen them live a couple of times and they have been pretty much the soundtrack of my life.

Just really sad and shocked about MCA and like people above thought he was getting better, the world has lost a hip hop pioneer.

3 MC's and 1 DJ may be no more but the joy they/he bought me will never die.

RIP MCA

angrytapes -> RE: RIP Adam Yauch (4/5/2012 6:47:45 PM)

Just got a text from a mate as I was listening to Check Your Head and thinking 'this album is 20 yrs old?!?'. Gutted - I could cry and i'm a grown ass man. One of the best gigs I ever saw was the Beasties back in 97/8? at Brixton Academy.

Toast -> RE: RIP Adam Yauch (4/5/2012 6:57:46 PM)

Just heard. A great shame.

R.I.P.

MonsterCat -> RE: RIP Adam Yauch (4/5/2012 7:03:07 PM)

Fuck me, this a big shock. I knew the guy had cancer a couple of years back, but I thought he over the worst of it.

A tragic loss for the hip-hop genre. RIP MCA.

gazpop -> RE: RIP Adam Yauch (4/5/2012 7:38:58 PM)

A-fuckin-men Monster! Just saw this as I was switching off. As has been said, most if us aren't probably the types to vent or wax when famous or even respected famous people die. But he helped form part of the soundtrack of my life (others on request). Licence to Ill may have been the first album I ever bought, but To The 5 Boroughs is up there I think in my desert island top 10.
I too thought he was over the worst of it so like others, am pretty gob-smacked...RIP Adam. You were a good man.

scarface666brooksy!! -> RE: RIP Adam Yauch (4/5/2012 11:38:27 PM)

Woke up to this news and I'm absolutely shattered. I haven't listened to them as much as I used to but I've always loved the Beasties immensely, sad sad news [:(]

Spaldron -> RE: RIP Adam Yauch (5/5/2012 2:08:09 AM)

hubu_phonk -> RE: RIP Adam Yauch (5/5/2012 2:58:25 AM)

just seen this. shocker. He was dead on like

borstal -> RE: RIP Adam Yauch (5/5/2012 1:23:45 PM)

I felt so sad when I heard the news. Loved Licensed to Ill when I was a youngster, me and my mates nicking VW badges [8D]

Ill Communication is one of my most played albums. So sad that a pretty cool guy is no longer around.

SadFace -> RE: RIP Adam Yauch (5/5/2012 2:00:17 PM)

Such sad, shocking news. I absolutely love the Beastie Boys.

A terrible loss. RIP MCA

Gram123 -> RE: RIP Adam Yauch (8/5/2012 11:07:06 PM)

MCA was always my favourite Beastie. A sad loss to hip hop indeed.

The NY Senate has honoured MCA. In the link is a transcript of the resolution, as well as a video of a senator talking about him. It's really a very nice thing.
