Spaldron -> The Scottish Thread 2 - Not As Good As The Original (30/4/2012 5:06:37 PM)

As some mods have pointed out the original Scottish thread has gone all FUBAR sadly, so I think its time to bid farewell to our old heavy drinking forum champion and start over. So is there anything happening north of the border that's on your mind, is it Alex Salmond, Rangers, Donald Trump or shall we just bitch about the weather as usual? [:D]

As you were.

paul_ie86 -> RE: The Scottish Thread 2 - Electric Boogaloo (30/4/2012 5:10:50 PM)

Won't be as good as the original.

steffols -> RE: The Scottish Thread 2 - Electric Boogaloo (30/4/2012 8:39:50 PM)

Ahh the original when it was good was up there with the best of the forum. Even when Sharkboy had to close it down! Good times.

Anyway, lets not let that dampen the potential of a new thread!

Woger -> RE: The Scottish Thread 2 - Electric Boogaloo (30/4/2012 9:08:49 PM)

Any Haggis sightings recently?

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand the first reply is a negative post, brilliant! [8|]

Is it me or is no one really that bothered about the rain up here compared to our English cousins who cant seem to shut up about it?

tommyjarvis -> RE: The Scottish Thread 2 - Electric Boogaloo (30/4/2012 10:53:28 PM)

My beautiful thread is gone :(

Starting that was my proudest achievement in all my years on Empire

Saltire -> RE: The Scottish Thread 2 - Electric Boogaloo (1/5/2012 12:07:46 AM)

Well as a fellow Scotsman, I wish this new thread well! [;)]

Chief -> RE: The Scottish Thread 2 - Electric Boogaloo (1/5/2012 8:39:42 AM)

It's a braw day today, cycled to work and everything. We all know that means fuck all up here though, could be thunder & lightning and hailstones by the end of the day.

Also, being Scottish, do you not feel automatically better than all the other British?

You don't have to begin the thread with an argumentative tone though.

Yeah the rain chat gets tedious. I was out yesterday and it started spitting and the amount of people who were cowering under umbrellas was crazy. I'm just walking along jacketless and actually sort of enjoying it. They definitely don't like it. As I said to my other half this is what Summer is back home and you just learn to deal with it and I've walked through a lot worse.

A moments pause of reflection for our fallen thread

You Scots sure are a contentious people.

Alex Salmond, Rangers

I posted some of this in the Brit Politics thread, but it fits here too...

I was staying with my mate in Glasgow over the weekend and on Saturday we were having a wander in the centre only to find our entire path blocked by Alex Salmond and his entourage. We couldn't step out into the road around it as it was a busy main road, so we just did the usual polite "excuse me"s four or five times.

We got louder and louder and still no one listened, so in the end we went THROUGH the throng and just rudely brushed right past Mr Salmond, purposely bumping into him whilst doing so.

Also, we were originally going to go to the East End Barras to have a roll with sausage and onions and a polystyrene cup of tea (all for the princely sum of 1.35) on Sunday, until we realised that there was a certain little football match going on that would probably have all the IRA sympathisers rioting in the streets. So we went on Saturday instead. A Ned offered me some cheap tobacco. I politely refused.

Shut up.

boaby -> RE: The Scottish Thread 2 - Electric Boogaloo (1/5/2012 2:13:00 PM)

Trump's a fud.

Salmond's struggling to contain his inner Salmond. Struggle on a coupla more years min.

Down with them. Though Doncaster's latest pandering sycophany spewed forth on Sportsound last night suggests the will in the Scottish Fitba Establishment is for their presence in increasingly ludicrous SPL.

Has it been raining? Sunny round my bit. Are those crazy Englanders managing to get flooded in a drought? Amusing.

Isn't it easier to get flooded in a drought due to the topsoil being useless at absorbing rainfall?

You don't need to say 'east end' - it just is [:D]

We managed to get in and out of central Glasgow by midday on Sunday to avoid the hordes (after being stung for 5.90 by a parking operator for 1hr 10mins worth of parking - astonishing rip-off and while I should have checked I had thought it was the same as most other car parks we use in Glasgow which all have the same rates - recently changed to rip you off more though they are).

Re weather - well, it is actual flooding. And it isn't as if we shut up about the snow a couple of years ago when the rest of the country didn't have much. [:)]

Was waiting for this to be posted. [:D]

Apparently its a whopping 18C and dry up in the Hebrides compared to 9C in London. And they're still moaning about the rain on BBC news. Deal with it!

Deviation -> RE: The Scottish Thread 2 - Not As Good As The Original (1/5/2012 8:50:55 PM)

Isn't Scotland a poor man's version of England? That's how I always perceived it.

Welcome Scotland Thread Mk2.

In honour of this new blessing, I thought I would mark the occasion with one of my favourite lines from the film Braveheart...

The trouble with Scotland... is that it's full of Scots.
