adambatman82 -> Fantastic (20/4/2012 12:10:33 AM)

Saw the film tonight, absolutely loved it.

Spoilers.

Hate to be this guy, but -

"the alien army our favourite evil demi-god has allied himself with are very throwaway, bland types who serve as little more than intergalactic cannon-fodder. Yes, they’re from the Marvel universe (we won’t name them, but they’re not who has been rumoured)"

They actually are the race rumoured (if you're referring to that one alien race that everyone had pegged for an appearance), but they go by name of the Ultimate Marvel Universe iteration of them.

Guinevere -> (20/4/2012 2:01:22 AM)

If this hasn't got five stars I don't see how any other superhero movie could! It's easily the best offering to date and certainly as close to a perfect Marvel film as is possible. Mark Ruffalo is inspired casting, the interplay between the group is fantastic, the one-liners zingy and the action extremely well plotted. Absolutely loved it! And The Hulk is my new favourite Avenger

Phubbs -> RE: (20/4/2012 5:45:55 AM)

This is out!? 26th in the UK

Andrew Thorne -> RE: RE: (20/4/2012 6:06:58 AM)

I saw this yesterday I thought it was worthy of a 4 or 5 star rating.

The action was action packed and there was at least 6 laugh out loud moments

You seen it already!?

Qwerty Norris -> RE: RE: (20/4/2012 7:31:16 AM)

I assume those lads attended press screenings, or did some kind of lewd favour for someone? [sm=33.gif]

malestorm -> FOUR stars!!?? (20/4/2012 7:31:48 AM)

Is there an actual "guide to film reviews" at L'Office D'Empire? Cause someone DEFINITELY isn,t following it, compared to some of the other 4 star offerings....oh dear. I KNOW reviews/critics are an individuals view but come on boys and girls.....lets see what Joe and Josephine public thimks eh

Rgirvan44 -> RE: FOUR stars!!?? (20/4/2012 7:35:09 AM)

Four stars is a really good grade.

But I cannot wait to see where this thread goes in the coming days.

No doubt into the depths of "WTF? 4 STARS! WHY NOT 5? WHY NOT 1? ETC" tedium...[8|]

balmerm -> Good Job James White (20/4/2012 9:27:24 AM)

I haven't seen the film yet but just wanted to say that this is a well written, unpretentious, entertaining review. Just feel I had to say because Empire have been releasing some shit recently.

OzExpat -> Great Review (20/4/2012 9:44:10 AM)

Haven't seen the movie yet but a fantastically written review. Can't wait to see it now. Haven't enjoyed reading an online review of anything this much in a long time. Empire has quickly become my favourite site for movie news.

I'm not that bothered about the film, but I am looking forward to this thread.

If only the review threads would let me post that gif of Scarlett Johansson munching popcorn.

amerelium -> ... (20/4/2012 11:01:01 AM)

Why do most idiots in here keep reviewing the reviews.

Why don't you all post your thoughts on the movies instead, which is actually the whole point...?

nhassell -> RE: ... (20/4/2012 11:18:12 AM)

The four star review gives me a bit of hope, but I am pretty sure I'll hate it. Have not enjoyed any of the Marvel films before (bar Iron Man, though it was overrated).

shool -> RE: ... (20/4/2012 11:54:46 AM)

Helmet on. Lock and load.

On topic - Very pleased to read a good review of this. Will definitely be checking this out of at the Cinema.

blindfold -> It is a great film (20/4/2012 12:16:47 PM)

Avengers Assemble is an awesome film. not sure about a review that somehow manages to give a bigger compliment to a transformers film though?

OPEN YOUR EYES -> RE: I've seen it & agree! (20/4/2012 12:43:17 PM)

Nice to read the positive reviews.
I honestly felt this film would be clunky and difficult to throw onto the big screen and it looks like I was wrong.[:D]

Super Hans -> RE: Avengers Assemble (20/4/2012 1:04:33 PM)

Glad to see things look promising for this - haven't seen all the individual character films (just Thor and the Iron Man films) but I get the impression that they haven't be massively well reviewed, so it's good to see that the final product has been pulled off well!

That UK title though....[:D]

Sutty -> RE: Avengers Assemble (20/4/2012 1:46:18 PM)

The review offered a couple of teases itself, which was cool. Not knowing too much about the likes of Black Widow and Hawkeye I am now intrigued as to how their relationship pans out and what is in Widows "dark heart". Sounds good.

Looking forward to seeing this. Reckon I'll go to an afternoon showing next week when all the noisy pain in the ass kids are in school!

guysalisbury -> so.............. (20/4/2012 1:55:56 PM)

...........pleased this didn't get 3 stars. I'm in!

morgie1000 -> RE: so.............. (20/4/2012 2:18:13 PM)

An alternative movie magazine website says that there is the usual post-credits scene. Can Empire/anyone else confirm this?

There is such a scene, but it is "earlier" than in other Marvel offerings, after the main credits (stars and actors, director etc.) but before the usual thousand names chunk.
And yes, this movie is fantastic. 4 stars are right because it has a few minor problems with exposition and the whole main plot, but it is still a very funny, very well made and utterly entertaining movie, the new overlord of all superhero-movies (still not as good as X-Men 2). And the special effects are awesome!

Hulk will be fans favorite hands down. Best action and all the best jokes (one is so funny our premiere show went ballistic, you will see it when it happens).

This ^ Its guaranteed to kick off at somepoint.[:D]

As for the film I'll probably want to re-watch the previous Marvel films before I see this, just so I know whats going on. Good review though, very encouraging.

odddaze -> RE: FOUR stars!!?? (20/4/2012 6:27:00 PM)

So it happened, Avengers Assemble actually exists and the strangest factor in the film is that it’s actually excellent. Whedon and his team have assembled to bring us one of the finest action/adventure films of the past few years. Like any movie in this genre, it has its flaws but when a film is this fun, do we care? The superhero genre just got kicked up a notch.

wildphantom -> RE: FOUR stars!!?? (20/4/2012 6:29:40 PM)

I saw the movie last night.

I don't really like to get into comparing all these superhero films. This is very tricky to compare to anything as nobody has ever attempted an ensemble team-up like it. Yet I can categorically confirm it contains the most exciting comic book mayhem anyone has ever put on the silver screen bar none. It raises the bar so high that it's hard to see anything touching it.

I've already read its finale compared to Transformers 3. Trust me, it's leagues ahead of that. The geography of it. The excitement. The story telling. The fun. It's a continuous set piece that never gets exhausting and you don't want it to end.

Much has been made of the humour in it. There are at least three occasions in the last 30 mins that brought the house down involving the Hulk. I haven't heard an audience roar like that in years. You could hear the outpouring of sheer fanboy joy in the room. The movie is tremendous fun. A theme park ride that arguably feels more Marvel than anything that's been done before.

The first event movie I have left since Avatar, giddy to see it again immediately. Unfortunately I'll have to wait now until Thursday.

Marvel fans are going to go ape for it. Anyone on here that's a big fan has nothing to worry about. In fact, I'd say your expectations will be blown out of the water.

Empire - this is a five star blockbuster. Sure it feels perhaps a tad uneven as it staples the gang together early on. But it's always smart and enjoyable. Once it hits its stride it's untouchable.

I'm no advocate of 3D either. But this has to be seen in 3D. I keep going back to that finale - but my god does it look incredible in 3D.

GeordieDan89 -> RE: Avengers Assemble (20/4/2012 6:39:24 PM)

So not The Dark Knight good then?

wildphantom -> RE: Avengers Assemble (20/4/2012 6:46:45 PM)

Incomparable to Dark Knight.

This is a Marvel fun superhero movie. A fun for everyone kind of deal that knows its pure comic book.

Dark Knight couldn't be more removed from that. It's basically a crime drama with Batman characters.

I personally enjoyed it as much as Dark Knight if we just have to compare the two. In terms of adrenalin rush its best moments trounce it. But then DK was never designed to be like that. Completely different sorts of movies.
