BenTramer -> "Here Come Two Words For You...Shut The Fuck Up." (22/3/2012 1:38:44 AM)

Ratner's last film Tower Heist wasn't bad at all. The script for Midnight Run 2 is key though, the first film is a classic comedy (from 1988, NOT 1998 Empire!). If the sequel is even half as good, i'll be amazed. They've really got their work cut out for them.

ChicksHands -> Looks like I'm walking! (22/3/2012 2:25:49 AM)

I never took a payoff in my life and I'm not gonna start with someone like you.

Toursiveu -> Charles Grodin is 77... (22/3/2012 3:28:18 AM)

... and Robert De Niro is 68. They should call it "Midnight Slow Walk".

matt st hubbins -> RE: Charles Grodin is 77... (22/3/2012 7:21:39 AM)

"Midnight Shuffle"

stephen_se9 -> Midnight Zimmer Frame (22/3/2012 9:11:54 AM)

Do it, but get George Gallo to write the screenplay.

professoryaffle2000 -> Affect Cleveland falling out of the bath voice (22/3/2012 9:15:42 AM)

Ratner? FFS!

JonathanMardukas -> Brett Ratner.... (22/3/2012 9:39:35 AM)

Why are you so unpopular with the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences??

Wild about Wilder -> RE: Brett Ratner.... (22/3/2012 9:46:46 AM)

Oh sweet lord they must be getting Desperate in Hollywood now.

evildave69 -> (22/3/2012 11:23:14 AM)

It says '88, you can't read.
Anyway, I didn't see Tower Heist, although the trailers looked ok. That doesn't change the fact that Ratner is a hack! Of course he's going to do a sequel, the man hasn't got an original idea in his whole body...or he's just lazy! A tad harsh maybe but as far as I can tell, he has spent most of his career happily picking up sequels which end up ruining franchises for the sake of a quick buck.

MonsterCat -> RE: Brett Ratner In Talks For Midnight Run 2 (22/3/2012 12:04:32 PM)

Brett Ratner isn't really that bad. He knows how to put together a coherent film and he knows where to put the camera, but his films are very safe and very vanilla studio friendly fodder.

st3veebee -> RE: Brett Ratner In Talks For Midnight Run 2 (22/3/2012 12:41:37 PM)

My first reaction was of course utter disgust: but I am a big fan of the Rush Hour trilogy (ok the first 2) and also look forward to Tower heist.

What the hell: Bring on the sequel.

TheMadFatChickKiller -> I can't see it being an action film (22/3/2012 12:52:10 PM)

Both DeNiro and Grodin are old as fuck. Unless it's set in an old folk's home where DeNiro and Grodin run into an equally old Dennis Farina, then the whacky adventure ensues as every night, all three embark on the Midnight Run. To the toilet.

Frank Comiskey -> FLASHMAN (22/3/2012 2:01:37 PM)

The herd who stick the boot may say what they please, but Ratner is good at character-driven action comedy; (Spielberg, for one, is - by his own admission - awful at humour), and he generated good interplay between Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker in the Rush Hour films; it seems funny that Ben Stiller, so-close in style to Charles Grodin, has just done Hostage Tower with Ratner, and did the Fokker movies with De Niro; he would be idea casting as Grodin's son. Grodin, 77 but still razor sharp (anyone read his recent hilarious article, 'My Night With Miss Piggy' ?) could oversea the Midnight Run of his son from a secret location........................this is the movies; all things are possible; if we can suffer 'Another Stakeout' or 'Cats & Dogs 2' or 'The Phantom Menace' after a lengthy hiatus............why the hell not?

BondVsPredator -> Nothing about this can end well (22/3/2012 2:19:12 PM)

Brett Ratner is irrelevant - this was a good film but it was a long time ago. It's too late to make a sequel that meaningfully follows on in terms of tone, pace or plot.

msmitchell -> At least it's not a remake (22/3/2012 5:48:37 PM)

This sounds bad. Better than a remake I suppose. Scrapping the barrel though.

LSJShez -> (22/3/2012 10:23:37 PM)

I'd rather they just re-released the original at cinemas.
Bad enough trying a sequel, but if Dennis Farina's not in it, I'm just not bothered.

musht -> RE: (22/3/2012 11:55:45 PM)

The original is a classic and one of my favourite films, I wish they'd just leave these things alone

BenTramer -> The First 88 (23/3/2012 7:56:22 AM)

@evildave69 The article originally said 1998 when I pointed out the error in the first post. It was then corrected to 1988. So I CAN read, thank you very much. Ratner's films aren't bad; I liked Red Dragon, I like the first Rush Hour movie and I even liked his go at the X-Men movies (i'm not an X-Men fanboy, so I can say that). Not a bad choice for director but they've got to get the script right.

BenTramer -> The Pitch (23/3/2012 8:01:47 AM)

I'd start Midnight Run 2 with the coffee shop (called Alonzo's) Jack Walsh opened with the money he got from The Duke going bust in the recession and him having to return to his bounty hunting ways. Jimmy Serrano gets out of jail and starts looking for revenge on Jack Walsh and Mardukas forcing them to team up again.

Shifty Bench -> RE: The Pitch (23/3/2012 5:00:08 PM)

Do we need a Midnight Run 2? Really really need one? The first film is great but I have never thought it needed a sequel.

tftrman -> RE: The Pitch (23/3/2012 5:07:22 PM)

No, we definitely don't need a Midnight Run 2, and besides the devil has obviously since collected on De Niro's debt. When was the last time he made a good film?

alonsomosley -> Yes please. (23/3/2012 7:41:26 PM)

alonsomosley -> Fingers crossed (23/3/2012 7:44:35 PM)

If this is made,it needs to be at least 15 cert.
But what will happen is,it will prob be 12A.Which means,deniros character will get to say Fuck,just once,which will be really silly,as he swore lots in the first film.
Has potential to be another Beverly Hills Cop 3 fiasco!
or could be Another Stakeout,which i thought was pretty good.

Proudfoot -> RE: Fingers crossed (24/3/2012 5:14:40 PM)

Please don't.

Clingfilm -> RE: Fingers crossed (25/3/2012 9:37:11 AM)

I'm glad so many share my opinion: leave it alone!

NCC1701A -> RE: Fingers crossed (26/3/2012 8:54:32 AM)

We don't need a Midnight Run 2 just leave it alone.
