So yea, surely there are films that, no matter how hard you try, simply dont make fucking sense. This thread is mostly inspired by the fact I'm currently watching Twin Peaks:Fire Walk With Me, and I'm around 40 minutes in and all I can think is "What. The. Fuck.". I vaugely remember watching Twin Peaks back in the early 90's (late 80's?) and I dont remember it being quite this bonkers.... So, what films have you watched and just thought...." I have no fucking clue what this is"??

Most David Lynch films, some Terrence Malick films, some Kubrick films. Doesn't mean to say they're not good or anything.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy I don't know whether it was the film's fault or my fault, but I was completely lost during the whole thing. Also - it didn't help that it was interminably dull.

Well, interestingly in the last five minutes or so it appears to have moved back to something more familiar (i.e. a bit more like I remember Twin Peaks) and I assume those openign 40 minutes or so may make more sense towards the end.... or maybe not...

Speaking of Lynch, INLAND EMPIRE confused the living fuck out of me which doesn't explain why I didn't like it all that because I love confusing films [:D] and I still haven't seen Fire Walk With Me either [&o]

I can believe that based on my failed attempt to the novel - it was just constant, droning exposition and I found it quite hard to concentrate on who was meant to be who, who liked who etc[:D] I do have the film on my Lovefilm list though, just to see if it's any more approachable in that format! I wouldn't say it completely baffled me but I'm sure there's a hell of a lot in The Usual Suspects that I didn't really understand.

I'd also nominate Primer, took me a couple of watches to get wtf was up with that one. Mulholland Drive, Lost Highway and Eraserhead are baffling but brilliant. I know some people find Memento and Inception baffling (not me). Spider, Jacobs Ladder and Pi can be baffling (until the end...) Also: The Twighlight series - it baffles me that anyone actually thinks they are any good!!

Things like Inception and Memento spring to mind as well as my aforementioned Usual Suspects, but none of them are too heavy really. David Lynch's batshit crazy, mega confusing-sounding output certainly doesn't appeal.
