rawlinson -> Top 1000 Films: Year Three Discussion Thread (11/2/2012 3:13:27 PM)

It's been over a year since voting opened for the second year thread, so it's time to start year three. Can Rear Window take the crown for the third year running? Will Lord of the Rings slip even further down the poll? How many Pirates films will Gimli try to crowbar into the list? Send your lists of 25/50/100 to empire1000list@hotmail.com. We'll give it till the 1st of August for lists to come in, that way we can get the biggest number of voters possible and it gives people plenty of time to see more films for their lists.

Harry Tuttle -> RE: Top 1000 Films: Year Three Discussion Thread (11/2/2012 3:17:08 PM)

I take it the list of up to 150 was only on for the Cult film list then?

I've got a shortlist of about 180 at the moment for that list so my shortlist without any genre or decade restrictions is going to be upward of 500 easily. Fuck watching anymore films, it'll take me till August to whittle it down to 100 [:D]

rawlinson -> RE: Top 1000 Films: Year Three Discussion Thread (11/2/2012 3:18:59 PM)

I'm actually happy to take bigger lists if there's enough demand for it. I was begging TRM the other day to increase the number allowed for the 70s vote. [:D]

matty_b -> RE: Top 1000 Films: Year Three Discussion Thread (11/2/2012 3:19:18 PM)

Yeah, I'm in for this. I've got a copy of the last one still, so shouldn't be too hard to reorganise it before August.

If there was enough demand for the cult list then hopefully there'll be enough demand for this.

Even if we're allowed up to 150 this may take me a while though [:D]

Rebel scum -> RE: Top 1000 Films: Year Three Discussion Thread (11/2/2012 5:37:37 PM)

This sounds good to me, and I'd love to be able to submit a list of 150 or so.

rick_7 -> RE: Top 1000 Films: Year Three Discussion Thread (11/2/2012 5:46:07 PM)

Cool, I'm in. I'm up for doing a longer list, if it's allowed.

TRM -> RE: Top 1000 Films: Year Three Discussion Thread (11/2/2012 6:04:38 PM)

You can add my name to the list. I dont mind submitting a longer list [:)]

garvielloken -> RE: Top 1000 Films: Year Three Discussion Thread (11/2/2012 6:28:50 PM)

I'm in. Fuck it, why not do a top 5000 and have everyone submit lists of 500. Trying to squeeze all my favourites into 150 sounds impossible [:D]. Or is a top 5000 pushing it a bit too much?

I think we should put all the films we've seen in order and send that in. [:D]

It could be contender for greatest film list ever. [:D]

Miles Messervy 007 -> RE: Top 1000 Films: Year Three Discussion Thread (11/2/2012 7:29:08 PM)

I was only vaguely aware this happened for the 2nd time. In, though.

scarface666brooksy!! -> RE: Top 1000 Films: Year Three Discussion Thread (11/2/2012 8:45:13 PM)

I'm in and willing to submit a bigger list [:)]

MovieAddict247 -> RE: Top 1000 Films: Year Three Discussion Thread (11/2/2012 9:05:40 PM)

Yep, count me in. I'd happily send in a longer list too.

rawlinson -> RE: Top 1000 Films: Year Three Discussion Thread (11/2/2012 10:47:40 PM)

Ok, you can vote for anything up to 150 films then. But don't feel pressured to vote for that many if you're struggling. Don't feel like you have to pad out your lists with Gimli films. [:D]

Does that mean Gimli can't vote?

Also can I vote for 1 film 150 times? The film is The Boondock Saints.

PB~! -> RE: Top 1000 Films: Year Three Discussion Thread (11/2/2012 11:30:04 PM)

I think I'll try to send a list in. The tree of life got me excited about films again so maybe this will get me more active.

Gimli The Dwarf -> RE: Top 1000 Films: Year Three Discussion Thread (12/2/2012 12:09:25 AM)

I have a list of 524 films, can I send that?

Just for that, all 4 Pirates, Van Helsing, Forrest Gump, War Horse and Precious are gonna make up my top 10 after LOTR. And I don't even like Precious that much.

Pretty sure that means your list won't be counted.

Gimli The Dwarf -> RE: Top 1000 Films: Year Three Discussion Thread (12/2/2012 9:35:55 AM)

It's not the first time I've sent a tactical list [:D]

You have a very odd definition of the word 'tactical'. [:D]

Rebenectomy -> RE: Top 1000 Films: Year Three Discussion Thread (12/2/2012 11:51:18 AM)

Definitely in this year after failing miserably to do it last year. List of 150 in the works.

In a desperate attempt to get LotR to win, in his last list he dropped Rear Window from his top 20 and pushed it down to number 100. The Result? LotR did worse than the first year. [:D]

I still have a lot of last year's lists if anyone needs their old one to look through.

Qwerty Norris -> RE: Top 1000 Films: Year Three Discussion Thread (12/2/2012 3:16:59 PM)

Count me in (and I'll actually make an effort to get an actual list in this time[&:]).

Beginning of August sounds a lot more realistic for me - when about d'you think you'll be looking for blurbs?

I'll aim for 150-250. [:)]

rawlinson -> RE: Top 1000 Films: Year Three Discussion Thread (12/2/2012 7:22:21 PM)

I probably won't be asking for blurbs. The higher parts of the list will already be blurbed to a large extent from last time round, and asking for blurbs for the lower half tends to really slow things down because you can't update until blurbs come in. What I did last time was to just put up the thread with all the blurbs I could find from various other lists and then say if anyone had a review for any film that was missing one then I'd edit it in.

I don't think it's a good idea to extend the number of votes beyond 150 though. I don't know if there'd be a huge demand to push it up to the 200/250 mark and it'll unbalance the list a little if there's only one or two lists going that high. But 150 sounds good, it should also have an impact on positions, so it might make for a few interesting changes at the top end of the list.

Dimit17 -> RE: Top 1000 Films: Year Three Discussion Thread (13/2/2012 1:29:26 PM)

OK Guys i just registered to this forum to participate to this list. I've a top 150 movies that I always actualize so I'm in. I'm very picture-frinedly so you'll have films from all periods and about 20% from foreign movies :)

paul_ie86 -> RE: Top 1000 Films: Year Three Discussion Thread (25/2/2012 2:20:28 PM)

OK I'm in. Can you send me back my list from last year?

EDIT: Never mind, I found it.

scarface666brooksy!! -> RE: Top 1000 Films: Year Three Discussion Thread (26/2/2012 11:58:58 AM)

Just had a look back at my list from last year and my first couple of thoughts were

How much crack did I smoke before writing that list?!?!?!

I need to watch a hell of a lot of films I've been meaning to watch before I modify the list

I need to rewatch a lot of films before I modify the list

And the list needs a drastic freaking overhaul but I'm fairly happy with my Top 30
