ORIGINAL: losthighway DS is one of the best games on the 360 imho. DS2 i have yet to finish but from what i've played so far (upto about Chapter 7/8 as i recall), it was equally as good but just made the story A LOT bigger... RE5 is a fantastic game - someone asked was it scary, not scary as such but certainly tense... i know when the big bloke with a massive axe came after me I was pretty fucking freaked! As for it moving away from the original creepiness of the first few games in the franchise, I agree it's not quite the same but just because it doesn't follow that template doesn't mean it's not a RE game. Times change and another rehash of the original games would have seemed lazy to a lot of folks. RE5 (and now RE6 from that trailer) just open the narrative wider - the basic premise of dead things chasing you is still very much there though! I just think the original RE 1, 2 and to a lesser extent 3 worked because it was filled with slow, shambling zombies, strange scientific menace and it was all about the atmosphere. The recent entries for me, have just been about backwards people and ridiculous mutant monstery things charging at you or surrounding you, in locations which are about as creepy as the woods behind my parents' house. Resident Evil 4 and 5 could have been called anything else, and you would never ave identified them as a Resident Evil game. I just don't get them at all, perosnally I agreeRE5 is tense - but for the wrong reasons. RE and Silent Hill were tense games, because of the music, the locations, the imagery. RE5 was tense because ohmyfuckhowthefuckdoIgetawayrfomthisthing/thesepeoplerunrunrunrun. To me, it's the gaming equivalent of a horror movie being really quiet for ages then BANG something makes you jump.
