This is a mostly brilliant top six, btw (not as big a fan of one of the films there as most), 4 of my top 6 made it.

First round was really tough. I found myself putting films like The Penalty and The Music Box in the bottom six, even though they were really good and I enjoyed them plenty.

Matty/Das Boot gets my vote. Das Boot is a masterpiece as well as being one of my favourite films, and it's also the first film that I would have put up for a nomination if he hadn't got there first - completely deserves it. Then again, out of this round I've only seen two nominations.... It's a very interesting selection of nominees altogether though - a nice mix of the famous and less known.
