I've been thinking of doing this for ages and now that I've finished my 500 films list I figured I might. It's not secret that I'm quite the fan of animation so here's a thread dedicated to all things cartoony.

It’s one of those lists that gets updated sporadically. It’s not a collection simply of new films I’m seeing for the first time, or just old favourites, but every animated film I see this year, short or long, I’ll just watch and review them as they arrive. With each new addition I’ll place them in an ordered list. I tried this with WWII films a few years back and that lasted for a total of 4 films. Hopefully this will be better [:D]

And as it's christmas, have a picture.

Hopefully there'll be plenty that aren't the usual suspects, including a few from your list. The first one might well be a Ghibli film though. I can hardly contain my excitement (insert sarcastic smilie here)

I've become more of a fan of animation over the past few years. Looking forward to the list, and as always I'm sure you'll have some surprises in store for us.

I'm sure the many, many haters of Tangled on here will be overjoyed to know that there's now a little bit more for them to moan about. I didn't even know that this short existed until it popped up as I was video-hopping on Youtube.

As a big fan of Tangled, it was almost guaranteed that I'd like this, and like it I did. It's the day of Rapunzel and Flynn's wedding but the focus is on the best characters from the film, Maximus and Pascal, as they race to retrieve the weddings rings that they manage to lose. It's a frenetic and fast-paced short, and one that may well appeal to those who disliked the main feature.

Is the whole thing on YouTube and do you have a link? I can't seem to find anything more than a few clips and dodgy camera phone vids.

The only one on YT now seems to be a shaky camera one but it's watchable enough if you want to have a look.

I doubt I'll bother with this. I thought Tangled was one of the most disappointing Disney animated features ever; soulless, dull and not even very funny. I haven't even got it on DVD yet, and I own all the others!

Just my opinion though, you'll have to put up with it[:D].

There seems to be a very for and against tendency with Tangled. I was very much with you on how laboured it was.

I'm in the hate camp for Tangled as well. I think it's one of the worst animated features Disney have ever made. It's certainly the worst I've seen in a while, I can't even think of a comparably bad effort off the top of my head.

Princess and the Frog

All the sequels (Bambi, Little Mermaid, Jungle Book etc) and the Tinker Bells - Disney proper have come across like a busted flush for a very long time. No wonder they needed Pixar. If The Wild is Disney proper, then Nigel the Koala is the best thing they've done in nearly 2 decades + IMO.

Nigel the Koala was the only good thing about The Wild though. That film was such a huge disappointment.

Agreed about Princess and the Frog but Lion King? IMO that's the best thing they've ever done.

I wouldn't say I hate the Lion King, but revisiting it as an adult did make me more aware of its short comings. I'd say the non Pixar Disney highlights of the past 20 odd years for me are Aladdin, Beauty and the Beat and Lilo and Stitch.

The first two I'd have outwith my timing as I do like them too. I'd forgotten about Lilo and Stich though - I'm fond of that. I liked some of the music in Hunchback too.

I saw Lion King as an adult. After enjoying the couple before it my only thought, really, was 'what is this shit'?

I've never been a huge fan of the Lion King, I think it's overrated. I wouldn't say it's 'dreadful' though.

I love The Lion King, but I do think Beauty And The Beast, while still quite good, is rather overrated.  It seems to be widely regarded as Disney's greatest achievement and just can't see why, for me it doesn't hold a candle to earlier fairytale efforts like Snow White and Sleeping Beauty!
