Such a good mini-series. Top Cow, hurry up and release Witchblade Compendium #3 and Artifacts Deluxe Edition #2!

I didn't realise just how important this series was to the TCU. A story years in the making with a big conclusion leading into Top Cow Rebirth (an attempt at a 'new 52' for the TCU). I don't mind how it was executed as even though it's a semi-clean slate, certain characters retain their memories of the previous universe and there will be repercussions.

I'm as up to date as I could possibly be now, and just waiting on TC to release more hardback books. I don't really like the idea of making the switch to lesser quality paperback GNs.

Also getting into Top Cow was really easy for me. Only 100 issues of both core series and a handful of mini-series and you're pretty much up to date.

I have never read Preacher but it is next on my list after I finish 100 Bullets.

I fucking love Prophet. One of my favourite comic titles alongside 2000AD.

This week I read the Novels I got from the collection this month. Thoughts below

[image]http://i.annihil.us/u/prod/marvel/i/mg/5/70/4bb65a223311f/detail.jpg[/image]

I really struggle to put into words just how much I loved this story arc. It has respect for the characters and what they stand for whilst making the story fresh and engaging. Caps fight with Ant Man, Thors outburst and just every panel in which The Hulk populates make this a must read.

You can see how this arc was the blueprint for the successful Avengers movie and if anything I wish it would have used more material from this book. Seeing the Hulk literally tear ships out of the sky and Cap trying his best just to direct The Hulk at the enemy through manipulation is brilliant to read.

Probably the best 'Avengers' book i've ever read. I walked straight down to my fellow comic reading mate at work and demanded he lent me the two sequels, even if they're not up to this standard, I want more!

I recommend this to any Avengers/Marvel fan - it's an absolute treat.

5/5

This did not read like it was 20+ Years old. The art is hugely detailed and fits the tone well with some really brutal art that I can't believe made it into 90's Marvel Comics. I've read bits and pieces of the story over the years but never as a whole. It does suffer from being broken down into seperate segments due to the original 8 page publishing format but this sometimes works as a strength, as it throws the reader from situation to situation. At points you feel just like Logan, not knowing what was real and what isn't.

But in all honesty if I didn't know the history of the character and Marvel I would have believed this was published in the past decade or so - it's aged very, very well.

So glad I started reading this series, best one I've read in a while (except for Saga)

Wow. I'd love to find out more about this comic, Sharkey! Just the coverart alone has got me intrigued!

sanchia -> RE: What comic book are you reading right now? (8/9/2013 9:15:34 AM)

It is a nice self contained story about finding life on one of Jupiters Moons. It is about 11 on Amazon.

Cheers Sanchia, I'm going to order a copy next month. This sounds like a story which is right up my street!

sanchia -> RE: What comic book are you reading right now? (8/9/2013 6:53:08 PM)

I believe it was originally written as a film script so does come across rather cinematic.

About half way through. Good so far, although in at least a couple of places already it seems a good deal nastier than the first!

Haven't seen the film yet but I gather that some of the more unpleasant parts have been toned down a bit?

Nexus Wookie -> RE: What comic book are you reading right now? (11/9/2013 10:00:17 PM)

(damn the internet connection is bloody slow today...) Just finished reading this awesome web comic by Simon Fraser and co;

http://activatecomix.com/9.comic

Lilly MacKenzie and the Mines of Charybdis. Awesome stuff! Anyone who has the time should definitely check it out, I finished it all in one sitting!

I thought The Cursed Earth was pretty damn good, then The Day the Law Died came along and pissed all over it (quality wise.)

Deputy Fish. [sm=happy07.gif]

Lol! You're right, that is pretty funny! Judge Caligula is just batshit insane....and a right laugh! [:D]

I absolutely love those two arcs that you've read. Great fun and the artwork by some 2000ad heavyweights like Bolland, are outstanding.

Great to see you having fun with the Case Files, directorscut. There's more to come!

directorscut -> RE: What comic book are you reading right now? (16/9/2013 10:01:54 PM)

My favourite artist is definitely Bolland.

Not a fan of McMahon. I find his art very hard to "read".

I liked this one when it first came out but hadn't read it in years. I found the book up again today and it is terrible. Smith's story reads like a fanboys script throwing in various old characters and trying to be mature and adult whilst coming across as hackneyed and cliched. The moment when murdoch is reunited with his mother in particular is terribly written. It is amazing how your opinion of a comic can change when re-reading it after a break.

Enjoyed volume 1 enough to carry on with this.

And got this eventually, great stuff...

I read this about a month ago and it is indeed terrible. I used to collect Daredevil in the months leading up to this reboot but the comic shop in my town closed down around this time and I never got to read Smith's run. I finally bought this recently because I'd like to start again where I left off, going through the acclaimed Bendis and Brubaker runs. This was really terrible stuff though. All those word balloons [&:] The most hilariously bad part is Karen Page "I HAVE AIDS" line. Oh dear.

Just last week I read the first four volumes of Mark Waid's new run. It's ok but nowhere near as good as reviews had led me to believe. By the second volume they're already having crossovers with Spider-Man and then later Spidey and the Punisher. The art is fantastic throughout but I find Waid's plots are a little lacklustre. His character work is nice; I actually find myself more interested in the soap operatic elements than the superhero action stuff.

Can't believe there's only one issue left now [:(] And to think we were once so close to a TV series - that would have been great! Still, there's always the chance of a movie instead now...

Chojin -> RE: What comic book are you reading right now? (21/9/2013 9:39:00 AM)

I was a bit surprised on Tuesday when my mate at work drops on my desk Ultimates 2, Ultimates 3, Ultimate War, Ultimate Hulk Vs Wolverine, Ultimate X-Men vs Avengers, Ultimatum?....etc all in single issue format on my desk. Basically every series you could think of after I let him know that I enjoyed Ultimates.

Only two weeks left in my current position but this will make for good reading on my lunchbreaks :)

I just really hope the sequel series live up to how good Ultimates was. Even if U3 is god awful, the MAD art will save it for me - probably my fav. Comic artist.

They even got to the pilot level for the television series but have never shown it.

Proudfoot, do I know you from somewhere else, or am I mistaken?

You're not a fan of 2000ad by any chance are you?!

Great pick by the way, Blacksad is amazing.
