Set in an alternate 1920/30s where superheroes are real and supposedly untouchable. Until a mob hit-man manages to kill one. This shows the fallout from that.

Oh, and I finally finished Gotham Central, loved it, but want more!

Nexus Wookie -> RE: What comic book are you reading right now? (3/8/2013 10:32:34 PM)

Sounds interesting Indysgill, first time I heard of it byt it sounds like something I'd love.

As for me, I 'm currently reading Swamp Thing Vol. 1, as well as Creepy Presents Richard Corben. I finished Britten & Brülightly a few days ago and I thought it was superb. Hannah Berry is a name i'll be keeping my eyes out for (she did another comic called Adamtine, I remember someone mentioning it on here).

Anyway you can read my review for B &B on here:

Reading two Comic books at the moment, one being the hilariously nutty underground Scottish publication Secret Agent:Chronicles Of Doom by J.Miller and the other from one of my favorite comic book illustrators and writer's Jeffrey Brown in his publicized title: Clumsy.

Just noticed the "Top Cow Universe" badge.  I've never read either, but I thought The Darkness was in the same universe as Witchblade and Witchblade has been seen in Invincible, which is Image.  How's it work?

Nexus Wookie -> RE: What comic book are you reading right now? (6/8/2013 9:36:32 AM)

I think the title above is Top Cow, but under the banner of Image. But I think Chojin can explain it better!

Invader_Ace -> RE: What comic book are you reading right now? (6/8/2013 12:11:57 PM)

Yeah, you are correct, I did a bit of googling. I didn't know that Image isn't the same as other comic companies.  All their titles are still creator owned and sort of grouped into Studios, of which Top Cow is one and these are their own universes, although there is now a sort of loose Imageverse between them.

Image was started by six of the most popular Marvel artists of the 90s as a sort of collective company that would release all those artists' creator-owned projects. So you had Rob Liefeld's Extreme Studios, Marc Silvestri's Top Cow, Todd MacFarlane Studios (which released the incredibly successful Spawn comic in the 90s), Jim Lee's Wildstorm (which was bought by DC, then shut down). As the years went by, Image itself became more of a brand and they started releasing single series from unknown to popular creators without being under the umbrella of one of the six studios. Now those studios are like satellites that orbit around Image planet [:D]
Since Eric Stephenson's appointment, Image are much more aggressive creatively and they've been drawing in some of the biggest names in comics. The Walking Dead is the most successful American comic of the last decade and series like Saga, The Manhattan Projects, Fatale etc. are all making a big dent in marketshare.

I'm not quite sure how the deal works but I think Image just take care of some press stuff and some of the logistics (printing etc.) and the creators fund the actual comics. They rarely have editors. They take on all the risk but if the series does well, they can make a lot of money. And because they own the copyright, it will continue paying them as long as collections sell and if it's ever adapted into any other medium.

After finishing the second Darkness Compendium I've moved on to the first big crossover, 'First Born'. I'm glad to be reading Marz written stuff again, he really did save the top cow universe and bound it together. The art by Sejic is also beautiful to look at. The Angelus is pissed!

Anway I'm currently reading...

All this! I bought em off a forum member at 2000ad online. Looks an absolute treat and I can't wait to get started! :-)

Read this book at work as the First Born/Broken Trinity book is a bit too weighty and large to transport!

Really enjoyed the Captain America book. It reminded me a lot of The Chosen. I liked the variety of artists that took on the project with David Finches Spider-Man issue being the stand out art.

Nexus Wookie -> RE: What comic book are you reading right now? (14/8/2013 7:09:20 PM)

That is one sexy ass cover, Chojin! [:D]

Anyone interested can find out how my reading of all the above is going on my blog here;

Chojin -> RE: What comic book are you reading right now? (15/8/2013 7:29:39 AM)

Yep Stjepan Šejić truly is a master of his craft. He eventually takes on full art duties for Witchblade but i'm still waiting on Top Cow to release their third hardback WB Compendium covering issues #101-150 where he has a quite substantial run with Marz as writer. Current issue is #167/168 I think so they've had a long time to get this one released, and I don't follow the monthly issues so this will be a great chunk for me to read [:D]

I'd love if Top Cow released a 'Top Cow Universe' Compendium which would bring together all of the supporting characters into one volume as I don't fancy buying another 10+ GNs to get all of the side stories.

Anyway, continued with Broken Trinity last night, still great readin'

Harry Tuttle -> RE: What comic book are you reading right now? (15/8/2013 11:26:36 AM)

Saga's back baby. A bit of a slow burner this month with not much happening to move along the plot (chronologically we're actually behind where we were at the end of issue 12) but it does provide some nice characterisation. Plus y'know, it's freaking Saga so obviously it looks amazing and the dialogue sings from time to time.

Recently I've really been enjoying Scott Snyder's "The Wake" which has been really good , Six Gun Gorilla which looks to be a blast and I think Jeff Lemire's Trillium could turn out to be be a fantastic mini series if the first issue is anything to go by.

Started Artifacts this Morning, intended to be a mini-series but it proved so popular it continued as an ongoing series. Nice intro issue where all 13 Artifacts are briefed. After reading 100 issues of both Witchblade and The Darkness and the First Born/Broken Trinity Series I can say i'm only familiar with 7/13 Artifacts!

What's more, when the series starts to be ongoing the team of Marz/Šejić take over [:D]

Most definitely! [:D]

Nice to see you getting some Thrill power directorscut! Just wait until you get to vol. 2, 3 and especially 4 & 5 because thats when the real fun starts!

As for me;

[image]http://i1131.photobucket.com/albums/m560/Nexus-wookie/20130817_093930.jpg[/image]

I managed to nab Conan v.10 for a measily £1.61 from ebay, considering the book is quite heavy with some breath taking art on show I think thats a bargain. Haunt of Horror: Richard Corben is a book I'm absolutely chuffed to bits with. Again I got it for a bargain. Corben's artwork on show, b&w with grey tones - is mesmerising to behold. He is quite possibly my favourite American artist. He's like the Ray Harryhausen of comics - a revolutionary in the horror/ fantasy genre.

Starting Vol. 2 today!

Nexus Wookie -> RE: What comic book are you reading right now? (17/8/2013 4:33:44 PM)

I think 'The Cursed Earth' saga and 'The Day The Law Died' starts in Vol. 2 if I'm not mistaken, and both are an absolute blast! I envy you especially if its your first reading as they're such a treat!

The large cast is being juggled very well, and there's already been the death of a character....albeit a side character that has rarely been seen.

Shifty Bench -> RE: What comic book are you reading right now? (19/8/2013 1:49:52 PM)

Finally got round to reading Y The Last Man and I am enjoying it. I am on the Girl On Girl storyline and while it's getting a wee bit boring, I'm still in to the end. Halfway through.....

I love The Day the Law Died. And volume 3 has The Judge Child Quest, another big favourite! Essentially just an excuse to send Dredd into space and tell wild and weird sci-fi stories.
