How about 'The woman in black?' The malevolent woman in black hasn't been stopped by the end

*******SPOILERS FOR SE7EN*********

But he does win though, not just in his head. He ruined Brad Pitt's life by killing his wife and unborn child.....

So does every serial killer in a film win then?

Most movie serial killers don't have 'getting arrested then being shot and killed' as part of their masterplan.

Only the ones that aren't caught or killed by the end, you wouldn't say Buffalo Bill in silence of the lambs "wins" as he's killed before he can complete his suit and the Tooth Fairy in Red Dragon / Manhunter ends up dead before he can "transform".

What? John Doe's plan was to get caught, see Pitt react when he sees Paltrow's head and then his reaction to the discovery that she was pregnant and then get killed. He wanted Pitt's life destroyed before dying and that is exactly what happened, therefor he won. His plan was complete. If Pitt didn't react and just got up and said 'meh' while shrugging, then it would have been a different story. And ending [:D]

Just because he dies doesn't mean he loses. Especially if his plan was to die in the first place.

Indeed, The murder of Mills' wife is killing number 6 "Envy" and Mills shooting John Doe is the final murder of the sequence of 7 "Wrath". Plan complete
