Timon -> Mirror, Mirror On The Wall - Which Snow White Will Beat Them All? (5/9/2011 3:01:59 PM)

So next year will see two Snow White films go head-to-head: Tarsem Singh (The Immortals)'s Snow White and Rupert Sander's Snow White and the Huntsman.

Both are offering dark twists on the fairy tale and both boast decent casts, but which do you expect to win the day?

Tarsem Singh's Snow White

Evil Queen - Julia Roberts
Prince - Armie Hammer

Other cast - Sean Bean, Nathan Lane

For me he'll always be Chris "Kim from Home and Away" Hemsworth [:D]

Why are there two films this similar out together?
Neither seem that interesting.

Timon -> RE: Mirror, Mirror On The Wall - Which Snow White Will Beat Them All? (5/9/2011 3:18:52 PM)

Alice in Wonderland has a lot to answer for...

It'll be interesting (I think) to see the dwarf designs, especially as both films will be coming out before The Hobbit.

Tell me these arent looking for a Twilight audience[:@]
Give me The Company Of Wolves adult fairytale style please!

Don't like the look of either to be honest, and there is a Disney masterpiece already. There have been too many other verisions by now, it just feels rather old, and the likes of Roberts trying to camp it up, just to show she has a different side to her, really puts me off.

Just 'cause one of them has Kristen Stewart in it?

I quite like the look of Snow White & the Huntsmen, looks a bit edgier and a little less pop-princess.

They could be aiming for the Red Riding Hood formula. *shudder*

I'm with Tarsem obviously.

Timon -> RE: Mirror, Mirror On The Wall - Which Snow White Will Beat Them All? (7/9/2011 2:01:39 PM)

I'm intrigued by the 'Huntsman' one simply due to the dwarf casting. I'd love to see Ian McShane as a foul-mouthed Grumpy.

I think it's going to be more than simply 'aiming at the Twilight audience'. Beastly tried that and failed spectacularly.

Well, Hardwicke's not directing so probably not [:)] Ugh, RRH was terrible.

Ti - didn't you expect dwarves in Snow White? [:D] Just kidding. This one looks better mainly due to the casting for me. Just the thought of Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen in the other one puts me right off.

Scott_ -> RE: Mirror, Mirror On The Wall - Which Snow White Will Beat Them All? (7/9/2011 4:38:04 PM)

The one with Sean Bean.

Comparative Versus Threads
Versus threads. No more please. They'll be locked as relative merits of any particular film can be discussed within the reviews (or in this case future film threads) for one or the other.

Timon -> RE: Mirror, Mirror On The Wall - Which Snow White Will Beat Them All? (11/11/2011 9:44:58 AM)

So Snow White and The Huntsman trailer is out and despite the lack of dwarves, I think it looks rather good.

princessa -> RE: Mirror, Mirror On The Wall - Which Snow White Will Beat Them All? (12/11/2011 5:25:40 PM)

Agreed Timon.  The trailer has me intrigued and apart from the over-acting from Cheron i think i may go and see it.  The other version looks too cartoonish from the picture releases i have seen.

itsmandylee101 -> RE: Mirror, Mirror On The Wall - Which Snow White Will Beat Them All? (9/2/2012 10:50:53 AM)

Are they showing in the same month? Well that would be hard. The Kristen's Snow White is scarier and action filled, while Lilly Collin's is funny, rom-com kind of movie. Based on the thriller, I'd probably watch the former because it looks better and I'm sure the story is better. But I might watch the latter because of Julia Roberts. So in the end, I'd watch the two and compare them afterwards.

OPEN YOUR EYES -> RE: Mirror, Mirror On The Wall - Which Snow White Will Beat Them All? (23/2/2012 1:41:11 PM)

I might avoid the one with Kristen Stewart, mainly because she is so drab in everything else Ive seen her in.

King of Kafiristan -> RE: Mirror, Mirror On The Wall - Which Snow White Will Beat Them All? (3/3/2012 5:03:24 AM)

PREDICTION: both films will be considered bombs.

FACT: The queen never says "Mirror, mirror on the wall" in SNOW WHITE. The line is "Magic mirror on the wall".*

*hat tip to the fine folks at CRACKED.COM for that

Timon -> RE: Mirror, Mirror On The Wall - Which Snow White Will Beat Them All? (19/3/2012 12:22:09 PM)

New Huntsman trailer pretty much blows Mirror Mirror out of the water. http://bit.ly/wNta4m

Hobbitonlass -> RE: Mirror, Mirror On The Wall - Which Snow White Will Beat Them All? (19/3/2012 12:28:14 PM)

I'll be going to see Snow White and the Huntsmen! One of the main reasons was a lot of it was filmed in Black Park and many a Sat morning (during the weekly parkrun) was run through fake fog and around film vehicles [:D]

'Tis a good trailer, although it uses that same score from the previous trailer, which is just far too similar to Zach Hemseys 'Mindheist' from the Inception trailer for me to take seriously. However, it does look really nice and has some good effects work - I especially like the Mirror and the shattering of bad guys into shards of black glass/stone/whatever. It might have gotten a better response if it hadn't followed one of the best trailers in recent memory (Prometheus) but I'll probably give this a punt.
