I don't want to be Mr. Prometheus, but I don't think it is fair to call that an under-performer. It was a 125M R-rated sci-fi/horror which came off the heels of a floundering film series. It cost 125M and made over 400M - a clear profit was made.

Their Titanic numbers are wrong, and by their definition it should be in their "Smash" catagory.

Also it's a bit too early to call Cloud Atlas a flop as it still has a third of its markets to open in, including Japan, Australia and the UK.

Wasn't Cloud Atlas mainly funded through international independent groups anyway?

I still want to know what Cool meant by this, but alas he will not respond.

It's just moronic drivel.

rawlinson -> RE: 2012 Box Office Estimates (8/1/2013 11:50:14 PM)

He probably doesn't want women watching Bond because they'd just be obsessed with how Bond looks. Oh wait.

He has blocked us all, so no response will be forthcoming I fear!

Non-blocked people - can you ask him?

There's someone he hasn't blocked yet?

So, Bond back to #1 in it's 5th weekend in the US, over $900 million worldwide, and a question for those box office guru's amongst you; could it overtake Twilight in the US?

I think the question now is - will it beat TDKR in terms of WW gross?

Amazing to see the Bond franchise, in film 23, look like it is getting to 1 Billion.

it would be great if it beat batman - revenge for stealing the License to Kill opening (and for completly POWNING Bond in summer 89!)

released in China - Skyfall slowly creeping up on TDKR - it might go to #2 for 2012. it'll be close

Rgirvan44 -> RE: 2012 Box Office Estimates (27/1/2013 6:46:03 PM)

Skyfall is only 5M off beating Dark Knight Rises...which it will do, making it the second biggest film of 2012.

jackcarter -> RE: 2012 Box Office Estimates (27/1/2013 7:51:08 PM)

so if it wasnt for Avengers making so much Bond would be no 1 movie of 2012

i still find it hard to believe Avengers made $1.5b - youd have thought about an extra 200m more than Iron Man 2 wouldve been about right, or around $1b at the absolute max. Its not as if any of the previous Marvel movies made anywhere near those numbers...and Iron Man 2 had left abit of a bitter taste (although the same could be said for TF2, yet TF3 did even more). People were that desperate to see Iron Man interacting with Thor, Capt America and the Hulk (didnt everyone sort of reject the 2 Hulks?) as they battle decepticons?!

directorscut -> RE: 2012 Box Office Estimates (27/1/2013 7:57:02 PM)

Im not surprised at all Avengers made that much.First of all, it was fantastic entertainment and you have the fans of several different superhero properties coming to the cinema to see their heros in a big team up film.Also, Marvel built the film up very well over the last few years with the solo films that even those who werent necessarily interested in all the Marvel superheros would go see it.

Rgirvan44 -> RE: 2012 Box Office Estimates (28/1/2013 3:43:08 PM)

The problem for future Bond films is that Skyfall is such an unusually large hit, to any less will be seen as a failure, when the opposite is just the case. I don't see future Bond movies always getting to 1.1Bn as this looks set to do.

Rgirvan44 -> RE: 2012 Box Office Estimates (28/1/2013 3:53:33 PM)

The 3 Craig movies have made more combined than the 4 Brosnan movies - adjusted for inflation.

unless $1b+ is now the norm for future Bond pics. It seems that once a series joins the billion club any sequels also do it - batman, pirates, rings, potter (near enough), cameron, Transformers/Avengers (probably)

unadjusted Skyfall alone has almost made more than all of Brosnans![:D] (well 3 anyway)

DONOVAN KURTWOOD -> RE: 2012 Box Office Estimates (3/2/2013 10:32:22 PM)

Skyfall was way better than TDKR in every way, a deserved success.

jackcarter -> RE: 2012 Box Office Estimates (3/2/2013 11:01:43 PM)

actually this is 4/6 Bond BO victories over Batman since 89

1989 - Batman - $411m. LtK - $145m
1995 - Batman Forever - $336m. Goldeneye $353m.
1997 - B&R - $238m. TND $333m.
2005/06 - BB - $372m. CR - $599m (battle of the reboots)
2008 - TDK - $1b. QoS - $586m

but both joker starring batman movies totally wiping the floor with the 2nd outing for a more serious Bond out for revenge.[:D]

directorscut -> RE: 2012 Box Office Estimates (11/2/2013 11:25:48 PM)

Cloud Atlas has passed $100 million WW. Still has big markets like UK, Japan, Australia, Spain to open in.
