Give Where Eagles Dare a whirl, it should work a treat.

TheGodfather -> RE: Epics on Blu Ray (11/11/2011 7:36:06 PM)

Not a Man on A Mission movie per se, but Doctor Zhivago is a must IMHO

I knew I could squeeze this onto an existing thread somewhere:

Cover says it all really. I really enjoyed this film, it's only ever had a cheap Asian copy floating around so good to see Paramount finally release it. Region A, released 24th Jan 2012.

Now where's The Wind, The Crowd, The Big Parade and Greed on Blu Ray?[sm=51.gif]

Had not seen it since the days of VHS and  clocking in at 190 mins I enjoyed it even more. However Tombstone is better but this is still a great film.

I've never seen it unfortunately mate! I must get round to it.

Of course now we have the ultimate epic on Blu Ray, Lawrence of Arabia, one of the best looking catalogue titles in existence on the format. I'll add Titanic as well, simply stunning transfer of an amazing epic.

I have never seen Lawrence of Arabia. While I do like Titanic it is not high on my list.

The Lawrence transfer left me gobsmacked, seriously. After years of having a TV copy, then the widescreen VHS, then the DVD I was mesmerised by how good it looked. Even my wife, who couldn't give a shit about such things, stopped to say "wow", before getting on with something more important.

'The Fall' &' Baraka' look absolutely stunning on Bluray, both an acquired taste though.

sharkboy -> RE: Epics on Blu Ray (8/10/2012 2:46:50 PM)

If Lawrence is really that good a transfer, I guess I'll have to set aside my 2-disc special edition and upgrade.  Anyone know of any plans to release HD versions of Lean's lesser-known movies?  I got a box-set a few years ago and, aircraft geek that I am, loved The Sound Barrier.  I'd also quite like to see a cleaned-up version of Ryan's Daughter

DONOVAN KURTWOOD -> RE: Epics on Blu Ray (8/10/2012 4:27:15 PM)

Well i dont know if you consider it lesser known elab, but there's a US blu of Passage to India that has received good reviews, i intend to pick it up at some point.
