I saw that yesterday DJ with a couple of other pics and that one was my favourite [:D]

indysgill -> RE: Images that Make You Go WOW! (27/4/2011 7:31:31 PM)

That Hong Kong skyline pic posted earlier, I just set that as my desktop and found that by messing with the sizing options (stretch, tile, fill) get different parts of the image in glorious detail.

That made me go wow!

Not "WOW" in a good way but certainly in an almost inconcievable one. These are pictures of the poor souls of Pompeii. I visited Pompeii over 10 years ago now and was speechless at what I witnessed. It is a place trapped in nostalgia for it's tragic past and you really "feel" that when you're there. I climbed up Mount Visuvius also, where I witnessed breathtaking views.

I thoroughly recommend this place in the top 10 places to visit before you die - it's fascinating.

Yeah I absolutely love this.  It also really reminds me of imagery from a film but I just can't think of what.

I won't post the pictues, but seeing images of the frozen bodies of those who failed to climb Everest, but are so high up that they can't be recovered.

It is a mix of amazement at how climbers have to walk by them on the way up, how well perserved many of the bodies are, and upon further reading, how for many of them, it is was a fitting place to end up, doing what they loved the most.

steflon -> RE: Images that Make You Go WOW! (25/5/2011 4:06:28 PM)

theres a sepia photo i saw ages ago of a diver in just a shirt and jeans swimming with a whale, it was part of 'close to nature' type series (i remember one of a lil african kid sitting next to a leopard too) i'm struggling to find it, if anyone knows of it or the series of photos send a link over

Rgirvan do you know what you've done? Last night I was mindlessly browsing the forum passing time before bed and I came across this post and thought, 'interesting, wonder if he saw them on one website or scattered about?'  So off I went on a venture into google and half an hour later I'm sitting avidly lapping up every detail there is about Everest, its death zone, the fact that bodies are now used as landmarks on the way up etc and read about Jon Krakauer's book 'Into Thin Air' which discusses the mass death incident following an expedition of a large group back in May 96/97 (can't recall).  This in turn makes me have a look on our system at work today to see if we have it in as I'm pretty keen on reading it now, and was looking forward to starting it this evening.  However our system showed 1 in stock, and could I find it?  Nut.  So now I sit here disappointed at the fact I'm not reading a particular book that I hadn't even been aware of until last night.  And this is all your fault.  So, erm, I demand compensation.  I'm not fussy though, a donut will suffice.
