A couple of swells from EASTER PARADE, with Judy Garland and Fred Astaire:)

I'm looking out the window, while listening to this song, the fall is beginning to take hold of Copenhagen, the leaves are falling of the trees, and i couldn't imagine a more cosy way to spend my saturday:)

Still recovering from my intense dislike of Adele's boring "Skyfall"

In the context of the opening credits, with the amazing visuals, Adele's Skyfall tune works really well.

This week though I have been listening to this:

^^ I play that one fairly regularly, it still has a magical ethereal quality about it in most parts.

I think we both have mentioned before, but its probably the best soundtrack of them all?

Gimli The Dwarf -> RE: What soundtrack are you listening to? (3/12/2012 11:58:26 PM)

Possibly. It's the one I've listened to in full the most simply because it's shortest. The Fellowship theme is possibly my favourite them from all three films and it crops up so often in this one and I love it every time. The theme for the Nazgul is spine-tingling, and it appears so rarely in the second two scores but so often here is another positive. Also, because the film is one straight story here the music flows so much better. But now I'm thinking of all the bits I adore in the music for TTT and ROTK. The main themes for Rohan and Gondor are almost a match for the Fellowship and then you have standout musical moments for the Beacons of the Last March of The Ents. I really I find it very hard to choose any one of them. I love them all!

Saltire -> RE: What soundtrack are you listening to? (4/12/2012 7:28:07 AM)

I would say Fellowship is my favourite also, so many themes and beautiful pieces throughout it. TTT has some great moments in it too, especially from Forth Eorlingas onwards to the end, finishing with the perfect Gollum's Song as the screen fades out. ROTK is utterly brilliant too, everything works in it, starting with the heroic Gondor theme from The White Tree (which is almost Tristan and Isolde's Liebestod the way it increases the sound) onto The Fields of Pelennor and onto the dramatic End Of All Things and finally bowing out with the wonderfully beautiful, ethereal Grey Havens and Into The West at the end. For me though my favourite piece from ROTK is The Black Gate Opens; how Shore changes themes effortlessly from despair and darkness, to hope and a longing for home is masterful, then the way it finishes with the beginning of the Into The West theme is just gorgeous - a four minute masterpiece that one.

The only soundtracks that come close to being as complete as LOTR is the original trilogy of Star Wars, with the thrills, drama, darkness and wonder of the songs throughout the score.

Can't wait to hear The Hobbit's music also, that will be something to look forward to, as much as the films themselves! [;)]

I love that piece as well. It's perfect though I think my favourite track from the latter stage of ROTK is For Frodo, especially the moment when the Fellowship theme gets sung. Always gets me that does.

Gimli The Dwarf -> RE: What soundtrack are you listening to? (6/12/2012 12:17:15 PM)

Yep, it's in the complete set. They're an absolute must! It's great when I have the chance to just listen to the entire score for one of the films in one sitting (but I've not yet had the chance to listen to all 3 in one go [:D])

Listened to this three times now since I got it yesterday. Amazingly good. It'll be fascinating to see how the music expands over the course of the next two film. I'd like to see an LOTR-style complete set as well in the future.

Lots of differences in here compared to what was on screen though, and again it's be interesting when information comes out as to why this is. perhaps I'd even welcome another release of the music as used in the film [:D]

One tiny complaint. The Misty Mountain music for the dwarves, on the standard soundtrack, the instrumental version of that theme bursts out, a really heroic version, in the track called Roast Mutton. I love it. (Listen HERE! - starts at 39.35 for about 20 seconds, and again at 40.20) The same track on this deluxe version is extended by some 50 seconds, yet that same theme version of the theme is not included, nor anywhere else on the soundtrack. We have other variation but not that really heroic one. Which I found to be kind of odd and something of a shame. But even so, this is the best soundtrack I've heard in years. I love it! [:D]
