I have to say, I'm quite enjoying this so far!

Me too. I admire the fact that they've put a story with the spectacle. I remember the Greece one and that was just odd shit going down. Still got a bit to do to beat China tho.

Daley Thompson for the flame I hope, whistling God Save the Queen.

Hood_Man -> RE: Olympic Games 2012. (27/7/2012 9:19:56 PM)

This is special, imagine if you were there? [:D]

Skiba -> RE: Olympic Games 2012. (27/7/2012 9:22:17 PM)

I was actually offered a free ticket to the technical rehearsal but turned it down! [:D]

This is a very, very, very English Britain on show.

Oh, hud on, is that Evelyn Glennie?

edit: It is.

Was anyone expecting Martin Freeman in hobbit feet to come out of that hill?

Is that Isengard? Where's Christopher Lee in white robes when you need him?

I'm sure they found a Scottish rugby try to show. Sorry for the poor mug who had to go through about 30 years of footage to find that [:D]

lbiu -> RE: Olympic Games 2012. (27/7/2012 9:25:36 PM)

So I'm the only one who thought that was really dry

Skiba -> RE: Olympic Games 2012. (27/7/2012 9:26:47 PM)

Ha! Good evening Mr Bond! [:D]

Hood_Man -> RE: Olympic Games 2012. (27/7/2012 9:31:52 PM)

What an entrance [8D]

James2183 -> RE: Olympic Games 2012. (27/7/2012 9:32:12 PM)

This is probably amazing in the stadium but I don't think it's translated well via the TV. You don't get a sense of scale or atmosphere.

I think that's it

Hood_Man -> RE: Olympic Games 2012. (27/7/2012 9:39:24 PM)

It could do with more wide shots. Helicopter aerial shots don't really do it justice either since they're too far away and you can't make anything out.

I think they're going for the intimate scale rather than grand scale though.

Skiba -> RE: Olympic Games 2012. (27/7/2012 9:40:00 PM)

I dunno, I think it's translated pretty well. I'm usually a massively cynical twat, but this has been great.

Yep. Although I did only turn on as Bond appeared so it may have been shit before that. Needs more jetpacks though...

lbiu -> RE: Olympic Games 2012. (27/7/2012 9:45:31 PM)

I think my expectations were too high but it just feels like random mish-mash of things. The theme is Britain but it just feels very choppy and random. I prefer Beijing's opener by FAR.

There's a lot of angry American's on Twitter who are annoyed that we're celebrating socialised medicine!

By all accounts, David Cameron's none too happy either...[;)]

The climax should be a huge printout of David Cameron's face being lowered on stage hanging down from from the ceiling, with a big silhouetted middle finger rising in front of it.

Not sure about this music bit...tunes are good but I don't get the link with the guy/girl on the phone?

James2183 -> RE: Olympic Games 2012. (27/7/2012 10:08:13 PM)

Fantastic selection of songs.

I think this may have worked better had the music section covered the history of Great Britain too. Born Slippy over The Industrial Revolution [:D]

It's about technology and communication and how it has changed over the years. [:)]

Hmm...still don't get it! [:D] And where's the bloody metal?

kumar -> RE: Olympic Games 2012. (27/7/2012 10:16:31 PM)

Dizzee Rascal?

Im sure it will pick up. I liked the beginning bit with the industrial stuff, wasnt amazingly keen on the music section (if not only for Dizzee Rascal). Going ok though [:)]. I am worried though that it is typically British so far, Feels almost an exclusive club.

I'm not watching, but from that I assume no room for Maiden?

Skiba -> RE: Olympic Games 2012. (27/7/2012 10:20:18 PM)

Quite a beautiful moment to remember those who couldn't be there after the tragedy, a day after winning the Olympic...a little snippet of the Sunshine soundtrack too

I would personally suck off Danny Boyle if it was...

Just noticed my appalling use of grammar...sorry Hood, I've been drinking.

EDIT: I mean punctuation...or whatever the fuck it is

superdan -> RE: Olympic Games 2012. (27/7/2012 10:31:37 PM)

I'm not ashamed to admit I've had a reet good time watching this. Was a bit unsure when it was all Hobbiton/Summerisle at the beginning, but then it turned into a great big crazy celebratory party rather than some constipated ceremony, which is fine by me.

Skiba -> RE: Olympic Games 2012. (27/7/2012 10:38:04 PM)

Bulgaria seem to have robbed the tavernas of Greece for their suits

This has been brilliant stuff. Really really awesome.

Skiba -> RE: Olympic Games 2012. (27/7/2012 10:48:32 PM)

Czechs in wellies...ha love it! [:D]
