Apparently Al Pacino has been cast as Arthur Scargill. This looks like it could be quite good.

LOL. Nicely done, sir. (More people should see that.)

Thanks Helen for making me laugh out loud to this news, brilliantly written! I wonder if the film will be just as (accurately) critical...here's hoping.

It's not going to look kindly at Thatcher, the UK Film Council awarded the film £1m right before they were shut down by the ConDems.

I wonder how good Meryl Steep's british accent will be!

She's done it before and she was spot-on. In fact during the 80s she pretty much did every accent known to man.

Oh please God make it go away, bad enough anyone would make a film about this evil, wicked women, but not the American's, they will turn her into some kind of hero. If we go see this nightmare then there will be a plague upon us all. We have to relive that terrible time in British History from an American point of view, aaaahhhh it's all too much.

You do realise it is being directed and has been written by two Brits? Just because an American has the main role doesn't make it an American movie. Also Empire, it's Phyllida Lloyd not Law, whose directing.

Streep plays Thatcher?

Now there's a true Axis of Evil. [&:]

What happened to professionalism?! That is one of the most immature news items I think I've ever read for a "legitimate" online magazine.

Helen O'Hara - if you come to review this movie I hope you do so on it's merit, and not let your lack of ability to remain (politically or otherwise) impartial cloud your view ...

... and no <sigh> I don't read the Daily Mail.

What the hell are you talking about? She made one comment that was a jokey reference to Thatcher taking on the unions. Are you denying that it happened?

No I'm not denying that it happened.

I'm saying that it was a badly written piece of journalism, massively subjective and pretty childish. If you want to vent your political spleen do it on a blog or write for a newspaper, not in a movie news article.

Someone, in hindisght, has clearly thought the same as the article's since been edited to sound less vitriolic.

She is a nasty piece of work who really set this country down the road to destruction.
Ms Streep is a fine actress and I can only hope that she does the kind of job
that anyone who is honest about Thatcher's Britain will recognise as capturing the awful, wretched old hag that she was.

Are you my dad?

gunslinger19 -> RE: Makes Maggie look quite approachable! (9/2/2011 6:57:55 AM)

I can feel the love for Mrs T on this thread...does the film have a happy ending?
Like she gets shot or we all wake up and her term in office was really a dream?

She looks great as Thatcher. Meryl is good playing noted characters. Anyone remember her in 'Evil Angels'..."A dingo's got my baby"
