azzman1984 -> The Dwayne Johnson Appreciation Thread (24/1/2011 9:32:43 PM)

One of the most successful wrestler turned actors ever, once billed to be the next big action star but now to me he has become a pretty well rounded actor, not the one to typecast himself to a genre, he has broaden his range has an actor from action films like The Rundown and Walking Tall, comedy films like Be Cool, Get Smart, dramas like Gridiron Gang and family flims like The Game Plan and Race To Witch Mountain. Yes some people think he has made some bad film choices but at least he has the balls to take chances and i think people should aleast respect and admire him for doing that.

Anyways with Dwayne coming back to the action genre with films like Faster, Fast Five and the upcoming film Protection in the works.

What's some of your favorite films or performances Of Dwayne?

ElephantBoy -> RE: The Dwayne Johnson Appreciation Thread (25/1/2011 12:09:23 AM)

First of all I think without question he is the most successful wrestler turned actor. History says that wrestlers who try their hands at acting bomb.

And in fairness I think he has been able to apply a lot of The Rock talents into good acting skills. The guy does have good comic timing, along with a fantastic look.

The problem is that so far he has shown little depth, even through you can say he has appeared in a number of different genres his performances are almost the same weather he appears in Sci-fi movie or a light hearted comedy. To me as a actor he does strike me as a little one trick. So far he has done quite well for himself, but to sustain a career he is going to have to branch out more.

UTB -> RE: The Dwayne Johnson Appreciation Thread (25/1/2011 7:36:17 AM)

I wouldn't say he has 'range' exactly but I do enjoy the films he is in. Doom, Walking Tall, Welcome To The Jungle and Get Smart spring to mind.

DONOVAN KURTWOOD -> RE: The Dwayne Johnson Appreciation Thread (25/1/2011 9:18:04 AM)

I like him, he's good in Doom which i picked up on BD the other day. A very enjoyable movie and he's one of the reasons.

azzman1984 -> RE: The Dwayne Johnson Appreciation Thread (25/1/2011 11:44:57 AM)

Dwayne deffo has got great comic timing and charm but i would love to see him do more serious acting roles, i think with the right script and the right directior like the Cohen brothers or David Fincher behind the camera to really bring the best out of Dwayne as an actor.

JoeyPottr -> RE: The Dwayne Johnson Appreciation Thread (4/2/2011 8:22:27 AM)

I think he's a good actor, he's really funny but I also enjoyed in Walking Tall.

azzman1984 -> RE: The Dwayne Johnson Appreciation Thread (8/2/2011 11:29:17 PM)

I was watching Faster earlier and Dwayne put on a real intense peformance dispite he didn't had many lines but he had the look of a man on a mission.

azzman1984 -> RE: The Dwayne Johnson Appreciation Thread (14/3/2011 5:02:51 PM)

Fast Five coming out next month and judging by the footage and some early reviews, looks like this will make Dwayne the action star people hope he would be.

azzman1984 -> RE: The Dwayne Johnson Appreciation Thread (28/4/2011 4:36:35 AM)

I think this thread needs a bump seem he was awesome in Fast Five and plus i noticed that the empire staff members on twitter are starting to like the guy for his sheer awesomeness [:D]

azzman1984 -> RE: The Dwayne Johnson Appreciation Thread (5/9/2011 12:37:35 AM)

This thread needs another bump seem that Fast Five is out on DVD and Blu Ray and he is just awesome in it[:D]

Here's the link to his imdb profile for his upcoming movie projects http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0425005/

and for anyone who is on twitter follow him @TheRock becuase his tweets r awesome!!

This thread needs more love!!

thetruth -> RE: The Dwayne Johnson Appreciation Thread (5/9/2011 1:09:52 AM)

Agreed![:D]

mackey -> RE: The Dwayne Johnson Appreciation Thread (11/9/2011 8:21:08 PM)

Watched Fast Five earlier today and it's a great action film. For me, Johnson was the best thing in it - charisma to burn and a real bad ass. I'd really love to see him do some really hardcore action films. Faster was good but didn't really give him enough to do, didn't really get to use his physicality enough. Here's hoping he gets some meatier parts which display his skills a bit more

thetruth -> RE: The Dwayne Johnson Appreciation Thread (12/9/2011 12:00:34 AM)

Yep,but he has much more to him than a simple muscleman!

unlisshed -> RE: The Dwayne Johnson Appreciation Thread (4/10/2011 6:02:27 PM)

I've loved him since 'Be Cool'. That movie was not all that good, but boy, his character in that movie was just awesome. I just love how fearless he is, even in crap like 'The Tooth Fairy'.
Doom, Faster and Walking Tall are all favourites of mine. He just has so much charisma and charm.

azzman1984 -> RE: The Dwayne Johnson Appreciation Thread (6/10/2011 11:47:09 PM)

He was by far the best thing about Be Cool, i agree that Dwayne is just fearless when it comes to any role that he plays.

I just wish some of the big name directors like Nolan, Fincher, The Cohens to name a few would just have some balls and give the man the chance to shine and i know people on here would laugh when i say this but i truly do believe he does have an oscar award winning performance in him, just need a director with balls to actually get that performance out of him.

azzman1984 -> RE: The Dwayne Johnson Appreciation Thread (18/11/2011 11:54:12 PM)

The Rock as signed up to star in Monster Hunterís Survival Guide http://www.deadline.com/2011/11/dwayne-johnson-to-star-in-monster-hunters-survival-guide/

azzman1984 -> RE: The Dwayne Johnson Appreciation Thread (6/1/2012 5:24:38 PM)

i know it's a long shot but i think everyone should vote for Dwayne Johnson for best actor and his movie Fast Five for best film at the Jameson Empire Awards 2012 http://www.empireonline.com/awards2012/ U know shake things up a little and something differrent instead of the usual people that get nominated for awards and fingers crossed if His Rockness wins, u never know he may show up, collect the award in person and Rock Bottom someone!! Come on guys and gals make it happen [:D]

azzman1984 -> RE: The Dwayne Johnson Appreciation Thread (16/1/2012 5:40:16 PM)

Timon -> RE: The Dwayne Johnson Appreciation Thread (2/2/2012 3:31:19 PM)

Loved him in Fast Five and he looks to be bringing the same pain in GI Joe 2...

But ask yourself, has he ever stretched himself more than he did when he starred as an alien wrestler in Star Trek: Voyager?

azzman1984 -> RE: The Dwayne Johnson Appreciation Thread (11/3/2012 2:29:42 AM)

I figure this thread needs a bump seem Journey 2 is the highest grossing movie of year so far plus seem the huge buzz around G.I. Joe Retaliation and if that film ends up being a huge box office hit.

2012 could well be the year of The Rock!!

azzman1984 -> RE: The Dwayne Johnson Appreciation Thread (5/4/2012 9:56:03 PM)

Check out the pics on the set of Pain And Gain, Mark Walhberg is in shape but he looks small compare to The Rock!!

azzman1984 -> RE: The Dwayne Johnson Appreciation Thread (17/4/2012 6:08:34 PM)

Seem that Dwayne has a lot of projects in the works, who would u's like to see him work with such as directors, actors and actresses

azzman1984 -> RE: The Dwayne Johnson Appreciation Thread (22/4/2012 8:29:42 PM)

Dwayne just finished doing a Q and A with fans and one fan asked which actor would like to work with, well heres the reply

quote:

There's so many incredible actors I'd love to work with. It's high time I hunt Will Smith down in a movie..

Hell yes [:D] Who else wants to see Dwayne and Will Smith do a movie together??

filmfanatic123 -> RE: The Dwayne Johnson Appreciation Thread (2/5/2012 3:08:40 PM)

I really enjoyed Faster and Fast Five but my favourite Dwayne Johnson film is Walking Tall - love that movie.

azzman1984 -> RE: The Dwayne Johnson Appreciation Thread (17/5/2012 12:23:24 PM)

The Rock has made it onto the forbes top 100 list http://www.forbes.com/sites/dorothypomerantz/2012/05/16/the-rock-is-kicking-ass-and-saving-franchises/

azzman1984 -> RE: The Dwayne Johnson Appreciation Thread (30/5/2012 11:17:55 AM)

I've just noticed that The Rock has Snitch coming out in January and after that will have a film coming out each month from March to June (GI Joe 2, Pain & Gain, Fast Six and Empire State) Say what u want about Dwayne but the guy seriously putting in work!

Cool Breeze -> RE: The Dwayne Johnson Appreciation Thread (30/5/2012 9:04:02 PM)

Sucks big time that GI JOE 2has been put back til next year. His biggest fans ( hmm.. are any of them here? [;)]) must be pissed off.

Could be that paramount are afraid of the film flopping rather than the whole ( ''oh we want to convert it to 3d argument'' ).

They should kill off Channing Tatum in the first 5 mins.Niot give him more scenes!

snooker23 -> RE: The Dwayne Johnson Appreciation Thread (4/7/2012 2:12:50 PM)

First thing is you cannot compare apples and oranges.

If someone notes that he seems to be one-tick or one-note, part of that is due to the fact that he always plays (is offered one would presume) variations of the same character.

There's no point in comparing him to Michael Fassbender for example. Apart from an onscreen likeability they both have. Because of his physique he'll never be offered the same variety of roles. That said I think Fassbender is probably the better actor.

But comparing him to Stallone, Schwarzenegger, etc. He's a vastly superior actor to them. Great comedic timing and he really doesn't take himself serious at all. He's one of these guys you can see trying just about anything if it suits the story, he seems to have a healthy grip on ego issues. I think the best evidence that he isn't just a muscle actor came in Fast Five. Just compare him to Vin Diesel, a world of difference. He was the best thing in that movie.

Come to think of it he's consistently the best thing in most of his movies. Even bad ones like Journey 2. Granted he had the ever charming Michael Caine to play off, but still I actually sat through the whole thing because their double act charmed the pants off me (so to speak).

Personally I think he might just surprise us with a few less obvious rules when he gets a bit older.

That said I do prefer him when he's slightly less bulked up than in those pain and gain pics. Not too much less - he's still the Rock, but just a bit. It gives him more options in roles I think, the physique can be distracting at times.

buffster28 -> RE: The Dwayne Johnson Appreciation Thread (11/7/2012 8:53:32 PM)

Recently saw Faster and Journey 2 - both good films really liked his double act with Michael Caine in Journey.
