ORIGINAL: pete_traynor One thing in the timeline kind of sheds light on an issue I always had in Aliens. Why were none of the marries at all taken aback when told a xenomorph or bug may be involved? They even coined the phrase ‘Bug Hunt’ While it’s obvious from Aliens these had never been encountered before, they still all seemed to know of the possibility of them. But the timeline confirms that Weyland was actually responsible for the creation of United States Colonial Marine Corps prior to Prometheus. So, perhaps all enlisted personnel were briefed regarding these things. Maybe not all info was divulged but the very basics. Some of what they gathered in Alien and Prometheus perhaps. Then enlisted personnel have to sign something akin to the Official Secrets Act. Could the mercenary types we see in Prometheus actually be members of the early USCMC? I get the impression that humans are just in fairly regular contact with aliens (not Aliens) at this point, such as the comment about them sleeping with some race (can't remember the name given) and it didn't matter if they were male or female when they're [insert alien name] That line always throws me in Aliens... is it 'Octurian' or something?? Initially, I always thought it must be some wird alien race they sleep with, but then that kinda makes the universe feel more Star Trek than I'd like, in that it appears humans regularly interact with alien races. However, someone once mentioned, and it may have been here on Empire, that the 'Octurian' or whatever, could just refer to an outworld colony of humans (on the Octurian colony or planet??) that are somehow known for being a bit freaky in the bedroom and so space grunts shack up with the male and female - maybe like Bangok Chicks with Dicks! Either way, it's a really odd little thing in Aliens that always really puzzles me whenever I hear it. I was definitely always of the opinion that it was a colony. Potentially, synthetics even. But I never assumed they were aliens they were talking about. Kind of detracts from the Alien universe to think of other species running about. I like the idea that it’s just humans. Adds so much more weight to any encounter that does occur... no matter how badly it turns out [:D]
