Nothing to really add to the Empire review, apart from it's films like this that makes me realise why I love cinema.

The animation left my breathless at times, the score was sublime for the most part yet at times, outrageous - kudos to Billy Boy and the Brittoons!

The story: simple, touching, moving - oh! the Ventiloquist's doll at the end, and the poor, poor clown. There are funny moments, but mostly it's a reflective look at a life that can no longer be lived.

A feast for the eyes and the soul, totally loved it.

this is as good a 'heart' movie as 'inception' is a head movie, both about the nature of reality and illusion. Which is a way of getting to the point that this might be the only movie this year that is better than inception.

Animation to die for.

For all its incidental bits of humour, The illusionist is at times unbearably sad. From an Edinburgh perspective, the pan across the city towards the end is far too fast to fully appreciate the detail in the realisation of the city, but that is one of very few criticisms I can make. Just try seeing it on the big screen at the Cameo cinema: nothing can quite beat the surreality of watching the film on the very screen featured in it ...

Really wonderful and beautifully made film. Glad I got a last chance to see this on the big screen as the animation, especially the landscapes are stunning. Great little story. The shots of my home town Edinburgh are to die for and the fact they got every last little detail down is a tribute to the animators. 4.5/5
