Sharon Pogue (Jennifer Lopez) is a tough Chicago cop who is feeling alone in the world. She's good in her job but doesn't like talking about it to prospective partners. Catch (Jim Caviezel) is also a loner, wandering the streets helping people. He saves Sharon from being shot, and this is the beginning of a very strange relationship. Catch lives in an empty flat while Sharon refuses to ask for a date without doing it through an answer phone. The question is, why? Both people have pasts that affect their lives. Sharon's family life is a mess, after she arrested her father for wife-beating, while Catch is the sole survivor of a car crash that killed his family, and Sharon was the woman who saved him. This isn't quite sure what it wants to be. Is it a thriller? A romantic drama? However you look at it, it is a little slow in places, taking a long time to get going. The performances are things that lift this movie. We may have forgotten how good Jennifer Lopez can be, and here she shows she can be good. An extremely watchable performance, it just seems a shame that the material she is working with doesn't seem to deserve such attack. Jim Caviezel is as solid as ever, and there is a brief appearance from man of the moment Terrence Howard, as Lopez's partner, but he isn't given enough to do. Not the turkey that everyone makes it out to be, but then we are not talking Crash here.
