sweet -> shaun is dead good! (2/1/2006 8:26:34 PM)

one of the very few films i saw in 2004 and i only saw it to pass some time til my dentist appointment and boy did it entertain me! the guys beating the pub landlord up to queens 'dont stop me now'. comedy genius!! its just a shame there arent many decent british comedys out there now shaun seems to be one of those rare films. and it also proves bill nighy and simon pegg are two unbelievably underrated actors. killer film!!,but i hated the ending though.

Having been a Spaced fan for years, I knew this would be brilliant and every aspect of the film is dripped in fan culture and modern referencing.
People often don't mention the emotional core at the heart of this film, the scene in which Shaun is wondering whether to take out his mum is heart breaking.

The writing is excellent, the pacing, acting, everything about this film is amazing.

tbird -> RE: shaun is dead good! (2/2/2006 3:19:27 PM)

Possibly the best British horror movie to come out in years. And possibly the best British comedy to come out in years.

The more I watch Shaun of the Dead, the more I love it. Never has a film demanded more repeat viewing as this. And each time it never fails to make me laugh and wince in equal amounts.

Its pure Pegg and Wright genius, each line is spot on and each shot is spot on. The real hero of the film is Nick Frost, who Id never really thought about before, but he is such comedy gold that I eagerly look forward to all of his projects.

5 stars!

Shaun Of The Dead...well, what can I say other than this film is brilliant!!

I was pleasantly surprised after seeing this at the cinema, this is a vintage British comedy. Every character is played to perfection, from Nick Frost's lazy unemployed slob Ed, to Bill Nighy's strict dad (not dad, STEP-dad).

The film is full of quotes and one-liners that will be etched in the memory of comedy lovers, like the repeated line "You've got red on you".

SOTD takes a lot of its humour from Simon Pegg's show Spaced, so already you know it's going to be funny.

This film should be viewed by all, and if you haven't seen it yet...WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH YOU!?

Anyway, must go. I'm off to see if dogs can look up

Cujo -> (30/3/2006 12:56:29 PM)

Fine film from the boys from Spaced

PaulJohn -> Genius!!! (1/5/2006 1:09:12 AM)

The Best Film Of 2004 and One Of My All Time Faves. Thats all there is to say.

Empo -> Absoutly brilliant! (3/5/2006 10:17:36 AM)

This film... WOW!!! No words can really describe its amazingness!!! It was a rom-com-zom really! It had romance for the ladies, comedy for the Jim Carrey's out there and blood and cuts for the men! IT WAS JUST AN AMAZING FILM! If I ever meet Simon Pegg I will shake him by the hand and say well done! Anyone who doesn't like this film at all should be shot dead on site!

badsanta -> Best British Movie Since Trainspotting (5/8/2006 1:22:14 AM)

A superb script crammed with great dialogue, gags and ideas. The mix of horror and comedy (and "'serious bits'", Kim) works perfectly (the final punchline is a great example); and the performances are also spot on. This film wil last.

solid snake -> Shaun of the dead (4/12/2006 7:19:34 PM)

Very enjoyable film. However it thinks its funny when its not. Thats not to say none of its funny though. Fun and silly mayhem.

macca_c86 -> RE: Shaun of the Dead (29/12/2006 11:04:07 AM)

Absolutly quality film with a cracking soundtrack and some laugh out loud moments, my other half watched it and thought it was rubbish but it's blatently a blokey film, anyone who has actully stayed up all night playing tekken will love it!

boot -> RE: Shaun of the Dead (29/12/2006 11:09:44 PM)

great little film, with the only gripe being that it doesnt balance itself too well at times in terms of comedy/seriousness, but its just a minor gripe. Stands up well to repeated viewings. Nick Frost is the star of it for me.

BatFan -> RE: Shaun of the Dead (30/12/2006 12:36:31 AM)

Everything I think about this film has been said. To me this is the best british comedy film (Four Weddings and a funeral can eat my arsehole). It is definatley my favourite comedy film.
One thing I got chessed off at, was I was telling my mate* how funny this film was, and I lent it to him, when he gave it back I asked what he thought of it, and he said it was shit!!!. I asked why, and he said it was too white???

24Dan -> RE: Shaun of the Dead (30/12/2006 8:30:54 PM)

It is immense

Hex -> RE: Shaun of the Dead (30/12/2006 8:35:26 PM)

I loved it. Not only for its humour and unexpected emotion, but because it led me to Spaced.

BobaJango -> RE: Shaun of the Dead (30/12/2006 9:34:34 PM)

The Spaced team do it again. Let's hope Hot Fuzz can at least match this work of genius!

sanchia -> RE: Shaun of the Dead (31/12/2006 1:33:07 AM)

No where near as funny as it thinks it is but the horror element in the second half is nicely played in a low budget kind of way.  I just hope Hot Fuzz can stand up to the comedy shown in the trailer and not be a different beast to that advertised.

Lazy wolf eyes -> RE: Shaun of the Dead (3/1/2007 6:38:19 PM)

A fantastic British comedy.  This film is responsible for me breaking into fits of laughter every time 'Don't stop me know' comes on the radio.  The dvd has some very funny extras too.

maffew -> RE: (3/1/2007 7:41:02 PM)

the comedy in this film is different to other films, it is simple. little things like Ed winding the film on, or calling "oi, prick" up the stairs, they are simple things that keep the film going. without these simple things the more complex things in the film wouldn't function. and then there is the subject of the film, it is just bound to be funny, and delivers.

i have no idea what you just said..

is Shaun hilarious though? is it really a piss your pants till they go drip on the floor, laugh out loud gag a minute pile of comedy? i don't think it is.. it is however, a cracking film i was wishing they'd make since the zombie ep of spaced.. its not as funny as everyone says it is though..

maffew -> RE: RE: (4/1/2007 11:15:22 AM)

Not terrible but not that great either.Funny at times and enjoyable with some good humure , but in a very silly concept.But the film is not as  hilarious as it thinks and dose not have much more brains than a zombie.

a very silly concept? what, zombies?

i dont think the film nor its makers think its 'hilarious' - its not the films arrogance i have a problem with, its the waves of teenagers that laugh whenever a not even remotly funny clip is shown, simply because its a horror film made by comedy actors, and they think they should be laughing.. when i went to see it, i was horrified at the horror bits, and in mirth at the comedy bits - obviously there were moments when the two mixed, but there were people in there just laughing all the way through, even when it got all intense in the winchester.. and when Ed

got bitten (a sad moment, i thought) and when he had to shoot his mum...its not ALL funny, its not a laugh a minute gross out comedy by the farrelly brothers.. its a horror comedy.. its about as funny as an american werewolf in london, i thought..i LOVE shaun of the dead, but c'mon... its not the greatest british comedy in 10 years..

maffew -> RE: RE: (6/1/2007 3:34:11 PM)

The film is not very smart

its very smart, as zombie films go, actually - in a genre filled with mindless violence and bad scripts, it was a breath of fresh air to watch something that had actually been thought about.

Your not understanding my review

i've read it a few times, and i think i see what i misunderstod - perhaps if you paid a little more attention to what you were writing, people wouldn't misconstrue your points.
oh, and i'll question whoevers reviews i please, thank you.

i can see you spilled your soul in to it. yes, i will try and spend a little more time really reading the reviews people slave over, rather than trying to incite debate - coz y'know its only a film forum - who wants to actually talk about the films? and yes, i'll right what i want - i know you'll read it.. i know you'll at least have a peek..

as for 'shaun of the dead is not smart' do you even recognise half the references? get the less obvious jokes? realise where the inspiration for this film has come from? if you answer yes to all those questions, and still fail to see its a great film, then i don't know.. whatever!

i do apologise, i'm not usually this bitter, i didnt have any sleep last night, and i've spent the whole day picking holes in eveything and snapping at people..

Think you're fully justified maffew.  Mr Doom, work on your social skills because you're going to piss people off.
