wgamador -> Script Challenge : Month 20 (13/4/2010 11:08:29 PM)

Welcome to the EMPIRE ONLINE: Script Challenge: Month 20

[image]http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/6482/movee3.jpg[/image]
"You Got Jacked!"

This month your assignment is to write a script-----but here is the twist:
You must begin your script with YOUR MAIN CHARACTER BEING FORCED INTO A CAR AT GUNPOINT.

The rest is up to you....

As long as your story begins with a scene that has 'YOUR MAIN CHARACTER BEING FORCED INTO A CAR AT GUNPOINT', your script will qualify.
Now you can alter the script at anytime after that.....

i.e., it can be a dream sequence, or you could have the main character fight back before he is placed in the car.....or you can go through with the "kidnapping" (for a lack of a better word) as long as you are shoving a gun in someone's face you have satisfied the MANDATORY ELEMENT. I mean, it could be water-guns....its your story.

You will be given ONE WEEK for conceptual work (if you need it).

The challenge starts MONDAY 19th APRIL 2010.

The closing date for this challenge will be MONDAY 24th MAY 2010.

The Usual Reminders

Please don't forget to save your scripts in .doc form if you wish to submit them by e-mail. Please send them to wgamador@yahoo.com

If you wish to submit your scripts via PM, please send them to Wgamador..

If you experience any problems submitting your scripts, please send a PM to Wgamador or Email him at wgamador@yahoo.com. Otherwise post your problem in the appropriate thread.

EMPIRE SCRIPT CHALLENGE RULES

1. All scripts must be between 2-13 pages long, when set out correctly. Use Courier New, size 12 font.

2. All scripts must incorporate the challenge requirements - any script which does not will be asked to be re-written, or disqualified.

3. Scripts containing pornographic or otherwise objectionable material will not be accepted. If you submit such a script we will give you a warning and ask you to re-write. Failure to comply will result in disqualification.

4. The time limit for each script is one month from when the challenge was posted. If you cannot meet this deadline, please send a PM to let Wgamador know. Scripts submitted after this date with no warning or explanation will not be accepted.

5. To keep all scripts anonymous please send them to the following address - wgamador@yahoo.com. Otherwise PM them me and I shall post them. That way voting cannot be prejudiced. I ask you to remain honest so that this may be a fair competition.

6. To suggest a topic for next month's challenge, please send a PM.

7. At the end of each month, a public vote will decide the monthly winner. At the end of a set amount of time, the monthly winners will be voted on to find one overall winner. The final decision is just that, and cannot be argued with.

There will be two threads. One for scripts specifically and one for comments about them and any script chatter. The script thread will not be made until the first script has been submitted so until then all talk about the challenge should stay in here. When the deadline is up votes will be submitted in the already made voters thread located in this forum.

GOOD LUCK !!!

mudweiser -> RE: Script Challenge : Month 20 (14/4/2010 12:34:49 AM)

I'm all over this like a bad rash.

Willie Mayes Hayes -> RE: Script Challenge : Month 20 (14/4/2010 9:59:45 AM)

I'm all over this like a cheap suit. Good job, count me in

igotnewlegs -> RE: Script Challenge : Month 20 (14/4/2010 10:16:49 AM)

I might enter this but no guarantees. Busy month ahead of me as it is! If I can think of decent story I'll enter otherwise I'll just stick to the voting.

Cool. hopefully you will be inspired even if its just 4 pages.

This will all come down to story story story.

wgamador -> RE: Script Challenge : Month 20 (14/4/2010 2:25:02 PM)

Can I have one of the fine Mods to put this on top of the thread...thanks.

monkeyfish -> RE: Script Challenge : Month 20 (14/4/2010 6:42:02 PM)

I see that the major change that has been ushered in with the Age of Wgamador is to increase the potential length of the scripts. How come we've now got an extra three pages to play with?

It's actually quite a specific subject to spin off from, I'll be interested to see the range of scripts that we get from this one. Still, count me in. I need to defend my title from last time (it would be nice to win two in a row!).

Epiphany Demon -> RE: Script Challenge : Month 20 (15/4/2010 12:53:49 AM)

I'm tentatively in. I shall try to get one in [:)]

Pigeon Army -> RE: Script Challenge : Month 20 (15/4/2010 1:35:30 AM)

I'll say I'm in, but I promise nothing. [:D]

monkeyfish -> RE: Script Challenge : Month 20 (15/4/2010 11:12:08 AM)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I always thought a carjacking tended to involve someone being forced out of a car at gun point, rather than into it?

pedro -> RE: Script Challenge : Month 20 (15/4/2010 2:02:24 PM)

Count me in like a little piggy that went to a market.

I tend to disagree with monkeyfish here. Apart from a similar opening scene the places the stories spin off from are endless. Could be set in the future or another planet. Could be any genre (prob not western though!) or style. My wee heid is doing overtime at the minute! Must try and be mature and not write a 13 page torture sequence!

Not if time is going backwards

*has brilliant script idea*

maffew -> RE: Script Challenge : Month 20 (15/4/2010 9:53:14 PM)

I'm in!!

Been waiting for a new one for a while, think i can come up with something fun for this..

Who said anything about carjacking ? "you got jacked" is just a title bro.
You know you have a lot to say....why didnt you take over the challenge then ?

Seriously....you think I have liked 'every' idea that has been presented in this competition? The answer is no.
But i wrote a script anyways. Didnt give a crap about title or colors or pictures.

And the three extra pages are optional. They are there if you need them.
If your story is good, no one will notice the extra three pages, right?

Wait- now i'm confused. It says at the top that the character must be being forced into a car at gunpoint (i.e. a carjacking), is that not still the case?

Anywho, once this is sorted out i'll be jumping in like the proverbial dive bomber.

You could do a western. They had guns then and cars (nobody said anything about having to use motorcars! [;)])

Also, it's not really a disagreement. I wasn't being disingenuous when I said that I look forward to the range of scripts we get from this. I'm genuinely interested in seeing the different outcomes people have for this. Having something a bit more specific will just make it that little bit harder to come up with a different idea.

Like I said last month,
quote:

I'd much rather write for the challenge than run it, to be honest, I've got to admire anyone who's willing to put in the effort to make it happen. Whatever it is you have come up with, I'll come and do a script for it.
I have no desire to run the challenge myself, that would take some of the fun out of doing the writing part. If I came up with the challenges it wouldn't be such a challenge to write for them as it is when you're reacting to someone else's idea.

Anyway, until there are any scripts written talking about the challenge is exactly what we do on this thread, isn't it? I don't really think the couple of sentences I wrote up above counts as having a lot to say. (This post, however, is already becoming a bit long!).

It's especially likely to bring a bit more discussion when it's a new era under new management. Obviously people are going to be interested in the changes you've decided to go with, like giving us an extra three pages. Genuinely just interested in any new ideas you have, not being critical about it, I'm just curious about what prompted allowing slightly longer scripts?

wgamador -> RE: Script Challenge : Month 20 (16/4/2010 3:27:34 AM)

Hey Monkeyfish....
I know what you are saying bro. [:D] I just thought , from previous challenges, that some scripts have been very good but the lack of one more page hurts the story.
Again as long as you have 2 pages......you qualify.
You know you have something good cooking in that mind of yours.... so get going, you have one week to work on your concept. A western sounds cool.....again dont be led by the TITLE or the PHOTO, they are there to color the post thats all.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay I will clarify the challenge....

You have to write a script that begins with a scene that includes 'YOUR MAIN CHARACTER BEING FORCED INTO A CAR AT GUNPOINT'.

Dear Kind and brilliant Mods,

Can one of you please place this thread on "TOP" ?

thank you very much.

90 minutes of video rewinding, no explanation of context, with only the sound of meat being hit with a bat and occasional sobbing. I'm on to something here

pedro -> RE: Script Challenge : Month 20 (17/4/2010 2:17:26 PM)

Better chance of getting a flight out of Heathrow than this being moved to top! Maybe the mods have took the huff at the word "Empire" being missing from the title!

I love talking Hip Hop on internet! My life couldn't be further from that world but we can all dream right? Got me thinking though. A jacking outside a crack house in Compton. Word!

cillitbang -> RE: Script Challenge : Month 20 (21/4/2010 8:52:38 AM)

I'm in! Love it, and will certainly make something far more weird and fun than last week's fairly sad entry.

Also, as far as the other month- sorry I couldn't make it back to vote, as I had all my coursework deadlines in one sodding week. Grrr?

I don't know about a western, it's not my area really, but I guess something with a period setting generally could work.

I'm actually a little lacking for ideas so far, but I'm just trying to come up with something that seems original. How's everybody else doing?

wgamador -> RE: Script Challenge : Month 20 (25/4/2010 10:51:34 PM)

Particpiants so far are:

Wgamador
Mudwieser
Cillitbang
Monkeyfish
Maffew
Pedro
Pigeon Army
Willie Mayes Hayes
Epiphany Demon
Igotnewlegs
NickHilton...?

man thats like an all-star list these will be some really interesting scripts and I cannot wait to read them.....hopefully we can get a newbie to submit something too.

Monekyfish....im struggling chosing one of the three story ideas i have come up with the last week or so.
I dont know what theme i want to approach.

Anyways GOOD LUCK EVERYONE....I hope none of you are still working on concept like me. LOL.

Again THANKS for SIGNING UP.....means a lot to me being the first challenge i host. I appreciate it.

No problem. You we dont worry about. You are loyal to the challenges. Stuff happens.....anyhow good luck and cant wait to read your work.

monkeyfish -> RE: Script Challenge : Month 20 (28/4/2010 1:25:32 PM)

My problem is that I basically go through the same pattern with my scripts. Every time I win it is with an idea that is neat and simple, usually with one central idea, a fairly fixed location and one or two main characters, with only a couple of other supporting roles. Then I come back the next month with a wild, fantastical script that is full of ideas, characters and imagery spilling out all over the place and no kind of focus. I get some complimentary comments about my imagination and far fewer votes. So, I go back and write another narrow focused script as my next effort and win again, beginning the cycle once more.

I'd like to win two challenges back to back, but I'm feeling the pattern pulling me into a messy, complicated world of fantastical imagery. I had an idea that was a nice, neat, simple two hander. However, after a bit of thinking and planning, it has grown into my usual mess of images and inspirations. The thing is, I kind of like the messy version, but I reckon I have to rein it in a little to make it work. Maybe I will need those extra 3 pages after all!

Beno -> RE: Script Challenge : Month 20 (29/4/2010 10:15:01 AM)

Wish i could write a script , i have a great imagination and my grammer be top notch thing like but i get too distracted . I could be in full flow and then start thinking about boobies or summat . Or i could be in full flow with som boobies and then start thinking about a script . That 2nd statement is a lie .

But that's why you have a month to do it in. It doesn't take a month to write ten pages, you could do that in a day or two. It takes a month to find that timeslot where you're actually focused on writing for a day or so to finish the thing, the other twenty nine days are just to account for all the other distractions!

I haven't written a word yet, all that stuff I said earlier was just ideas.
