Glee begins with a double bill on C4 or E4 on Monday. This show has gained quite a following in the states, so I decided to check it out. The pilot is up on 4od at the moment. I wasn't blown away, but this could definitely grow on me. Plus, the music is brilliant.

MI Cruise -> RE: Glee - C4 Speed (5/1/2010 10:12:32 PM)

It's coming on E4.

The adverts E4 do for this show are rubbish it's as if the channel expects everyone to have heard of this show showing small clips that may not get a lot of people interested. I watched the full sneak preview trailer in October so I am already looking forward to this.

losthighway -> RE: Glee - C4 Speed (6/1/2010 9:22:58 AM)

It's got show tunes, it's got big dance numbers, it's got bitchy quips and it's got Jane Lynch (the scary lawyer from The L Word as a gym teacher with hepatitis!)... what more could a (stereotypical) gay man ask for!! [:D][:D][;)][;)]

Seriously though, I saw the pilot and whilst it got off to a slightly slow start, by the end of the episode I was interested to see more. I disliked High School Musical so te series could go either way for me... i'll either get drawn in by the script or be seriously put off by the HSM feel of it all. We'll see...

Ethanial -> RE: Glee - C4 Speed (6/1/2010 9:29:46 AM)

Can't wait to re-watch the whole series without having to wait for the player to load.

A fantastic show, you who have yet to watch it, whilst it starts slow, by the end it's absolutely fantastic.

Keyser Sozzled -> RE: Glee - C4 Speed (6/1/2010 1:26:38 PM)

Saw the pilot and was really impressed by it. It's a shame that its been marketed as a "HSM" style show, the writing is much sharper & darker than you would expect. Gonna check it out and hope its continues to improve

swordsandsandals -> RE: Glee - C4 Speed (6/1/2010 4:06:26 PM)

The characters I felt were a little stereotyped, but I guess it was the pilot, so they had some establishing to do. I've checked out their version of Somebody to Love on Youtube. It's amazing.

Anyway, Jane Lynch is brilliant. She was the best thing about Role Models.

elab49 -> RE: Glee - C4 Speed (6/1/2010 4:08:06 PM)

Personally the pilot didn't have enough bite for me - too twee, too sweet, too obvious.

That said, it took Popular most of a season to go weird and wonderful so it might be worth hanging on.

I've been assured by a canadian who has seen all of the first series that the pilot episode is the worst, and that the actual series is much more like Pushing Daisies in tone than HSM.

Worth persevering with, I think.

How amazing? Any versions I've heard other than the original have made me want to cry (Ella Enchanted, Happy Feet, American Idol, at least twice on X-Factor and even George Michael wasn't great)

ChickMagnet -> RE: Glee - C4 Speed (11/1/2010 10:08:53 PM)

I actually really enjoyed that, which I didn't expect at all. Plus the choice of Don't Stop Believin' at the end was quality. We're watching CBB now but will definitely be watching the 2nd episode on +1

Alabama -> RE: Glee - C4 Speed (11/1/2010 11:06:57 PM)

Surprized by how much I enjoyed that [:D]

Coach Sylvester is a hoot and the tunes and production are actually great - wish channel 4 had the balls to put it on Channel 4. No doubt when they measure its success they will repeat on their main channel to the point where we all start to hate it..[;)]

The REAL Bozz -> RE: Glee - C4 Speed (11/1/2010 11:25:55 PM)

Brilliant. Whoop whoop! Ryan Murpthy who created Nip Tuck created this show and you can tell. I expected his edge and dark humor and surely enough it is there. Loved it. Sure the characters are sterotypes but IMO it works like that. That way we get good arc's.  I hear there's a Madonna episode?

primebhoy -> RE: Glee - C4 Speed (12/1/2010 9:10:40 AM)

'I'm Beyonce, I aint no Kelly Rowland!'

Primebhoy loved it!

Harry Exton -> RE: Glee - C4 Speed (12/1/2010 9:36:44 AM)

Enjoyable programme. Definitely started quite slowly but picked up as it went on. Can't see it having much of a shelf life though. The format doesn't really allow for a long running show to my eyes.

theoriginalcynic -> RE: Glee - C4 Speed (12/1/2010 7:12:04 PM)

The show is on channel 4 on saturday.  Guess they're hoping for a massive hit.  I thought the pilot was better then the sceond episode.  The pilot was expertly written, with cliches abound yes, but the feel good factor by the end was in full efect.  I think this is either gonna become extremley repetative or a must see show.

losthighway -> RE: Glee - C4 Speed (13/1/2010 12:55:37 PM)

After getting over the initial disappointment of realising the double episode was actually a repeat of a the pilot(!!) and then the season starting proper, I really enjoyed it. The second episode was far more risque and bitchy than the pilot, the scene where the Glee teacher started singing and dancing made me cringe bigtime - that was really awkward to watch. Sooo cheesy! However, Jane Lynch as the cheerleader instructor is definately the best thing about the show so far... her performace is brilliant! [:D]

MI Cruise -> RE: Glee - C4 Speed (13/1/2010 3:41:02 PM)

Watched the double bill on Monday was not at all suprised to see that it was good, people may dismiss it as another High School Musical wannabe but let's admit it it was much better.
The songs were good, the dialogue was a times funny. Will definately keep watching this.

HIM -> RE: Glee - C4 Speed (13/1/2010 4:09:17 PM)

I thought it was brilliant! Reminded of My Name Is Earl in the quirkiness of the characters. Someone mentioned Pushing Daisies but I have to disagree as I thought Daisies was more akin to a Tim Burton film in it's tone and characters. This has much more of a teen comedy style to it such as 10 Things I Hate About You, American Pie, Superbad or Mean Girls.

Lazy wolf eyes -> RE: Glee - C4 Speed (13/1/2010 9:08:05 PM)

It took me a while to get into it but I have a feeling I'm going to love this.  The weird mix of schmaltz and some rathy sinister humour was hard to get to grips with to begin with but I'll definitely tune in to see the rest of the series.

primebhoy -> RE: Glee - C4 Speed (14/1/2010 2:22:48 PM)

I may have too, it was for the Mrs, honest[:)]

Jeffrey -> RE: Glee - C4 Speed (14/1/2010 5:21:45 PM)

I was pleasantly suprised that they showed the longer director's cut which includes Will singing "Leaving on a jetplane." [:)]

DJ Satan -> RE: Glee - C4 Speed (14/1/2010 6:23:12 PM)

I'm a bit annoyed that V+ cut off the end of both episodes. So do I carry on watching week by week or ask my US Auntie to send it over so I can gorge on it?

homersimpson_esq -> RE: Glee - C4 Speed (15/1/2010 10:45:57 AM)

Mrs Torrence will be called upon for me... [:D]

As a former school-choir-member, I loved it. Although, my choir was not at all like this, obviously...

Gimli The Dwarf -> RE: Glee - C4 Speed (15/1/2010 1:37:43 PM)

It'd help if I knew more of the sings, but I loved it!

Fletcher -> RE: Glee - C4 Speed (15/1/2010 6:34:50 PM)

Enjoyed it and think that it will continue to improve as well. Jane Lynch is great but i'm all about the songs. I can't stop listgening on youtube to their Dont stop believing version.

I also like the teacher with OCD who has a crush on the choir master.I'm guessing thats where people are picking up on a Pushing Daisies vibe.

It was bugging me that I couldn't place her until I realised it was Daisies. [:D]

Bit of useless information. I recognised the big-eyed crazy looking teacher from the ep3 promo. He was the podgy brat kid from Jurassic Park, the one who Dr Grant demonstrates the velociraptor disemboweling to. I never forget a face.

jediwarrior -> RE: Glee - C4 Speed (16/1/2010 1:55:31 PM)

Ok do the cast actually sing the songs, cause you can tell it's mime in the show, just wondered if it's actually them in the studio singing the songs
