Is it just me, or does The Hoff actually look quite good as Nick Fury?

I haven't seen that movie but I'd put good money down on him being better than Samuel L. Jackson.

Fluke Skywalker -> RE: The 'Other' Marvel Movies (1/5/2012 10:41:19 PM)

Samuel L Jackson is pure shite as Nick Fury - and the Hoff does actually look pretty cool. The Fantastic Four trailer is hilarious especially Reed Richards stretchy arms [:D]

fuzzy -> RE: The 'Other' Marvel Movies (2/5/2012 2:18:35 PM)

Possibly the first 'Marvel' feature film...

Nope-

From 1978. Ok, it was a TV movie, but still..... [:D]

(Howard The Duck is the first cinema release, though you are correct there)

As the bloke in the screened.com vid says he's just Samuel L Jackson with an eyepatch

So is Ultimate Nick Fury, therefore role = nailed [:D]

directorscut -> RE: The 'Other' Marvel Movies (2/5/2012 3:52:09 PM)

Jackson is easily the worst part of every Marvel movie he appears in. All the movies grind to a complete halt when he's onscreen and disappear into a vacuum of inertia and boredom.

I agree that he kills the scenes he cameos in (much like Stan Lee) but I thought he was fine in Avengers. Not brilliant but good enough.

I suppose you could also count this...

[image]http://www.b-westerncollectables.com/images/captain-america.jpg[/image]

I don't count it though because although it was in the cinema it was a) a serial, b) had hardly no link to the character apart from a similar outfit and c) it was Timely comics back then anyways.[;)]

Shifty Bench -> RE: The 'Other' Marvel Movies (2/5/2012 4:27:26 PM)

Yeah, I wasn't counting that because you said 'feature film' but I was aware of its existence [:)]

Shifty Bench -> RE: The 'Other' Marvel Movies (3/5/2012 5:02:26 AM)

I just found these TV movies on Youtube-

Captain America (1979)- click
Captain America II: Death Too Soon (1979)- click

And they are shite. They change the origin story so much and even Christopher Lee can't save the second one.

Quoting myself to correct myself....this was released in cinemas in some countries so it counts, sort of, as being the first-

The Amazing Spider-Man (1977)

Indeed, I remember going to see Spider-man - and also remember the crushing disappointment at how shite it was [:D] Still, on the plus side it was on a double-bill with Sinbad & the Eye of the Tiger, which was ace!

As for Doctor Strange, what geni-arse thought that the '70's porn star look was the way to go?

"Jon Holmes is Dr Strange - check out his wand!"

Shifty Bench -> RE: The 'Other' Marvel Movies (3/5/2012 8:42:34 AM)

It does look like Jon Holmes! Ummmm....so, my friends says, I have no idea who he is, obviously.....[sm=augen14.gif]

Lest we forget, there was also a theatrical release of the original Incredible Hulk pilot movie in 1977.  I know because I saw it in the local flea-pit, then remember the disappointment when I watched the TV show thinking I'd get more Hulk goodness, only to see the same bloody thing I'd paid to see at the cinema!

Could have been worse - imagine if JKR had used that look for Harry Potter - "Ejaculamos!" [:D]

Timon -> RE: The 'Other' Marvel Movies (3/5/2012 10:31:30 AM)

I wish I still had my 70s Spider-man films on DVD.

Say what you want about them, but that Spider-man did like to climb walls.

Don't forget Blade and Spawn, which came out a few years before the craze started!

(I know Spawn isn't at Marvel anymore but he started out there)!

I remember Spawn being great when I first watched it, not so great 10 years later. Blade is still excellent though, watched part 2 the other night and it's quite good too.

Spaldron -> RE: The 'Other' Marvel Movies (3/5/2012 12:59:26 PM)

I think Blade is in need for a reboot, maybe do an origin story this time? No idea who could play him though.

I think that film covered his origin pretty well and turned out to be a major part of the plot when it was revealed who was responsible fo him being born a vampire. The tv series covered his early years as well in flashback.

jackcarter -> RE: The 'Other' Marvel Movies (3/5/2012 11:33:30 PM)

yes in 77 or 78

the pilot plays almost like a horror movie at times - and rewatching today its still pretty scary. the whole gamma chair incident leading to the first transformation in the rain would be pretty terrifing to a child i think

'A' rating was PG but it couldve easily have gotten a 'AA' (15) it was so scary[:D]

Spawn is nothing to do with Marvel - Todd McFarlane started the comic after he and the other Image Comics founders (Jim Lee etc) walked out from Marvel.

The Spawn soundtrack is brilliant.... Orbital & Metallica, Metallica and DJ Spooky, Filter and The Crystal Method.... freaking amazing

Isn't that version of Fury actually based on Jackson though? As such it's kind of a no brainer
