Joedini -> Heartbreak High (26/8/2009 11:41:43 PM)

Anybody used to watch this?
Aussie drama set at Hartley High dealing life 'in the suburbs'.

Great fun in its day, and almost as good on a rewatch which I am currently doing [:)] It got really good for me with the introduction of Drazic but the early ones with Nick, Jodie, Con etc were still great fun.

Although I do have a feeling there will be zero replies to this [:D]

*emz6* -> RE: Heartbreak High (27/8/2009 12:48:10 AM)

used to love it back in the day

Dirty Hartigan -> RE: Heartbreak High (27/8/2009 1:08:37 AM)

Kind of vaguely remember this, mostly for seeing the "white rabbit" girl in The Matrix and going "oh, that's Katerina". It seemed to get completely ripped at my school, but it was probably okay. I seem to remember it as being more racially diverse than most Australian programmes of the era that made it here.

fuzzy -> RE: Heartbreak High (27/8/2009 1:20:55 AM)

Used to watch it now and again - was a spin-off of an Aussie film called The Heartbreak Kid if my memory serves.

The guy who played Rivers in Season 1 is starring in Neighbours at the mo.

Shifty Bench -> RE: Heartbreak High (27/8/2009 3:36:49 AM)

Ada Nicodemou who played vixen Kat is now Leah in Home And Away.

I watched the first few seasons of Heartbreak High on the BBC and I remember enjoying it. I don't remember watching the full thing though, I've only just discovered there were 6 seasons of it so I'm pretty sure I didn't make it that long. I always thought it was a bit odd killing off the main guy so early on considering he was also the main guy in the movie the show was spun-off from.

OLD SCHOOL!

Well for those of us who are like 20-24 -_-

Heh. Me too, although I replaced her name with 'that girl off...'

I watched the show too, mainly because it was on when I was having my tea (starts flashing back to when BBC2 and Channel 4 used to have a genuinely interesting post-6pm slot), but I could never quite work it what it was supposed to be, or what point it was making. For example, there were (to the best of my memory) no adult figures in the show, but then they always seemed to be living on their own, but were still going to school? Didn't make any sense. And they always gave them ridiculous reasons to stay on at school even when they'd done their exams. And were clearly well into their 20s.

Filmfan 2 -> RE: Heartbreak High (27/8/2009 7:14:32 PM)

I loved this as well, and I'm another who used to catch it whilst having me tea.

Can't remember the character he played in Heartbreak High, but the guy who plays Angelo in Home and Away at the moment, is also another Heartbreak High veteran.

My cousin got me watching this. Cant remember much but the theme tune to be honest. Gave me the wrong impression about going to high school though...

How are you re-watching it? Do you have the eps on old vhs?

It's an australian invite only site that I use to allow my Australian aunt to send them over to me [;)]

Fluke Skywalker -> RE: Heartbreak High (28/8/2009 5:13:49 PM)

Check this shit out! I used to watch it as well [:D]

http://www.heartbreak-high.com/whoswho.htm - I can't remember too many of the storylines though but the characters have stuck in the head...

Spectator of Suicide -> RE: Heartbreak High (23/1/2012 4:21:53 PM)

Season 1 was released on DVD in October 2011, Season 2 will also be released this year! [:)]

There were definitely a few teachers in it in the first series or so at least (didn't stick with it for long). The blond teacher who left after about one season was given the most god awful sing song send off, while I think another teacher knocked up one of the students, played by someone probably the same age as him.

Funkyrae -> RE: Heartbreak High (23/1/2012 7:44:10 PM)

I remember it vaguely, but more for it being the first time I saw Paul Mercurio.

Captain Black -> RE: Heartbreak High (23/1/2012 7:45:56 PM)

I believe (assuming I can recall the train of thought I had when making a post from several years ago! [:D]) I meant more parental figures rather than teachers. However, doing some *ahem* research shows I may not have been correct about that either. And I defy anyone to not laugh at the show's character summaries on its Wikipedia page (oh yeah, SPOILERS [8D]):

  • Maths/Music teacher, gay, leaves in episode 26
  • Nick's mother, dies from car accident-related injuries in episode 8
  • Nick's father, moves back to Greece in episode 30
  • Drama teacher, appears from episode 10, is leaving the school in episode 13 because Ms Milano found out his dirty past
  • student, last seen alive in episode 65, found dead from an accident in episode 66
  • Science teacher, leaves to join a research team in Antarctica in episode 78

Wasn't there a big teacher guy for a few seasons, appeared in the opening credits?
And I seem to remember (and God knows where this came from) a father who was a stone mason and wanted his son to ditch school to follow in this footsteps. How random is that?!

Snake-Eyes -> RE: Heartbreak High (29/1/2012 10:20:45 AM)

Man... HEARTBREAK HIGH! Yes. I admit it. I was a fan! 'Rivers' having a fling with that teacher...

ElephantBoy -> RE: Heartbreak High (29/1/2012 6:17:31 PM)

I remember watching it, but can't remember too much about it. Seemed like there were a lot of shows of this irk on at the time. Might revisit it just to see what the fuss is about[:D]
