I loved Prince of Persia: Sands of Time when it came out on the ps2 some years back. Great story too, hope they can stay true to it.
In the game the princess is Indian and from the photo of Gemma and Jake sitting on a horse, there's a statue of the god Ganesh in the background which indicates that the princess is probably Indian too in this one. Gemma looks great, but not sure if the makers of this one are gonna be fooling anyone in thinking that Jake is Persian or Gemma is Indian.
At least Gandhi himself, Sir Ben Kingsley, adds authenticity to proceedings.

that first pic is downright pornographic- Jake's hairy chest and wet shirt and Gemma's ample bosom- I'm gonna have to sit on my hands...

Arrhghghghghg.;.....Scorpion.....King.....flashbacks.....

LegendaryManimal -> Racism?! (27/7/2009 2:23:23 PM)

Why not have an arabian lead actor and an indian lead actress for these roles?

Who is to blame? Studios or the viewing public the studios fear would shun a film cast in such a way?!

Discuss.....

chewbacca27 -> Racism?! (27/7/2009 4:52:20 PM)

I don't see many asian men in TV shows, movies, TV ads, posters, banners etc. It is all dominated by white and black men. So why should the role of Dastan go to someone of asian origin - does not make sense to me. The role had to go to a white or black person.

Pelle -> Blaah! (28/7/2009 10:46:23 AM)

Go Hollywood! Not only did they casted the white guy in the role of arab. They had to cast the whitest guy of them all: Jake Gyllenhaal!

Well who cares anyway. All video game based movies are crap and this Bruckheimer produced kiddie romp won't be any exception.

pj2012 -> u idiot westerns...... (28/7/2009 12:26:25 PM)

Baramos -> Umm, no. (29/7/2009 7:20:25 AM)

I hate to rain on your hate parade, pj2012, but the Persian Empire was mainly located in what is now modern day Iran, and the Persian Gulf (I assume this is what you mean by Persian Sea) is immediately adjacent to Iran, which is an Arab nation, and Saudi Arabia.

Whether you wish to argue that the Persian Empire of sixth-century A.D. could be accurately described as Arab or peopled with Arab-looking people, could be possible, but you seem mainly concerned with being angry and idiotic.

That's because we're unappealing, get with the program. [:D]

Damn, it really does. Or a fashion ad where great looking white people are placed in the middle of an exotic scene with everything exaggerated (the open shirt, wet hair, ect.)

As for the film...I'm still very skeptical. I'm sorry but Jake Gyllenhaul is as white bread, all American as you can get. No matter what kinda hair and costume he's sporting. It just all looks so false. Look, I know how it works and why he was cast (though I would argue he's not a proven movie star who can open a film). Lets face it, this just isn't big enough to be sold on its own merits and needs a headliner. Unfortunately, we got Jake (nothing against him btw). Although, really I doubt there was a better realistic (for the studios) choice. Heck, I'm really surprised this didn't go to Orlando Bloom after his swashbuckling Pirates role. And the Bruckheimer connection.

The sad truth of the matter is that there are no big name Middle Eastern actors out there at the moment (big in the US that is). So if one were to be cast it would have been a huge gamble. Personally, being a fan of this series I'd have loved to see it. As for the who I would have cast? Well, I guess its easy to just say a good, young, no name middle eastern actor. But, for the sake of it I'll throw out a few names.

Sendil Ramamurthy

Yes Mohinder from Heroes. I know some people can't stand him on the show. And to be honest he does grate with me a bit. But...its just one character and it may well have been intentional. So can he act? Well, he was classically trained in London. And he doesn't just play himself on Heroes. Plus, he does do a fantastic accent (I had no idea he was American). But I haven't seen him in anything else so I can't pass judgment.

What he does have is the looks (even as I guy I have to admit that). And if you stuck with Heroes into season 3 (I've now given up on it) its clear he's in fantastic shape (in fact the perfect lean, ripped body for Datsun). Plus he's got amazing hair (yes I just said that but its actually relevant here) He's also somewhat of a name (if only the guy from Heroes). And like him or not is very photogenic.

His only major credit thus far is Salim in Slumdog Millionaire. But it was fine work in a highly acclaimed film. The one thing he has that would be great for Prince of persia is an assured confident presence on screen. Its why I was able to buy him working his way up in a life of crime.

He doesn't have the ideal look (he actually kinda resembles a young Michael Jackson). But he would give it an ethnic feel. And I'm sure he could be made to look the part. He's also not a name but he could be billed as "from Oscar winning picture Slumdog Millionaire..." for credibility. The bottom line with him though is that he had aura of cool in 'Millionaire' when he could have easily come off as just a bastard. And that is important for the Prince.

JoeyPottr -> RE: jesus.. (4/8/2009 7:34:49 AM)

Jake Gyllehaall as a Persian? As a tough guy? It just doesn't fly.

Kazuya -> RE: Exclusive New Prince Of Persia Images (4/8/2009 12:24:07 PM)

Bruckheimer is like the movie producer version of Chuck Norris, about a 1000 years old but still looking the same way he did in the early 80s (from a distance at least).

The pics from the film look pretty nice.
