jobin -> Expected but still amazing news!!!! (12/6/2009 8:31:59 AM)

Now for the annoiuncement for the 'big 3' - Bilbo, Smaug and Thorin??????

Who who who?

My votes go to Martin Freeman, Morgan Freeman and Ray Winstone

crazymoviesdude -> (12/6/2009 9:16:44 AM)

I'd rather an unknown for Bilbo, Freeman would be terrible, he's far too knowing, not innocent enough. As for Smaug and Thorin, I'm not at all sure.

Morgan Freeman for Smaug!?! Yes, the man gives good voiceover, but he's a bit of a Connery when it comes to accents... and I don't think Smaug is American.

I think they should get 2 or 3 actors form a list of great voices and have them all do it, blending the sounds together in different ways. Add in a bit of the person he is talking to, and voila - creepy, persuasive. seductive voice.

Or something.

Like Ray for Thorin though. Hadn't thought of that...

Who's gonna play the other dwarves? Is there a big fat english actor section on imdb?

jobin -> RE: Expected but still amazing news!!!! (12/6/2009 11:42:26 AM)

way better idea than Morgan Freeman!!!

love the idea of blending the voices!

Anduril666 -> (12/6/2009 11:44:27 AM)

Agreed, expected news but VERY reassuring to know they're returning, I simply cannot imagine anyone else in these roles and would not want to.

dazmac -> (12/6/2009 12:13:45 PM)

Cant wait, already very excited when little tit bits of information are announced!!
What the hell is all this about morgan Freeman?? Surley Bilbo needs a young fresh face such as James mCavoy!!!

eruptus -> RE: (12/6/2009 1:30:59 PM)

I have a feeling that James McAvoy will be Bilbo. Ewan McGregor would be a good choice too.
Winstone would be great as Thorin and Timothy Spall could play one of the dwarwes too.

pete_traynor -> Ian Mcshane for Smaug! (12/6/2009 1:33:26 PM)

Golden Compass was shite but that wasn’t his fault. He’d be great!

XVII -> Bilbo (12/6/2009 1:54:41 PM)

Please, please, please cast McAvoy as Bilbo. Everyone thought of him as young Bilbo even before the The Hobbit was announced!

fireboy -> RE: Bilbo (12/6/2009 2:30:06 PM)

Not happy with this James guy playing Bilbo. Am happy that Hugo, etc returning. 'twould be wrong to have other actors. Shame about John Noble not wanting to take part. But then, he's not in the Hobbit anyway...

Timon -> RE: Bilbo (12/6/2009 2:36:34 PM)

It's already been reported that Christopher Lee will be voicing Smaug as he won't be reprising his role as Saruman as he can't be bothered to go to NZ for several months.

fish that roared -> RE: Weaving, Serkis & McKellen For Hobbit (12/6/2009 3:08:09 PM)

What about Beorn, Bard or even Radagast the Brown. Will we see anything of the necromancer who Gandalf, Elrond, Saruman and Radagast oust from Mirkwood I believe?

Gaaah! Seriously? That's such an unimaginative choice. Im sure it's not 'cause he can't be bothered. He is nearly 80. They probably won't let him on the plane!

Filmfan 2 -> (12/6/2009 3:31:35 PM)

Awesome!

crazymoviesdude -> RE: Bilbo (12/6/2009 3:38:12 PM)

No, you're right, it isn't because he can't be bothered, and a correction: he's 87, he doesn't want to fly back and forth to the other side of the world as his age. Would you?

Frankly, yes. It would mean that I could. 87, though. That's quite an age. I thought he was 78.

I'd heard that they were thinking of greenscreening him in London, presumably as Saruman. It would be nice to have something filmed here. Other than PJ's hand pointing at the map, that is.

crazymoviesdude -> RE: Bilbo (12/6/2009 4:46:37 PM)

Well I meant would you want to if you were 87.

I agree, I'd love to se him in it, as Sarumna, but not as Smaug.

jobin -> RE: Weaving, Serkis & McKellen For Hobbit (12/6/2009 5:17:25 PM)

If you go to aintitcool they have a link to the site that broke the news and the necromancer will be appearing in some form....

ok as bard, what about.... Guy Pearce - i think he'd be perfect, he has that lean look that i always pictured Bard to have....

Agreed. His voice is to familiar. Unless they blend and mix. But I dont want to hear Smaug and think Saruman and Count Dooku.

To Bildo, didnt they have a fella playing young Bilbo in the FOTR flashbacks?

No , that was Ian Holm with a different wig on . Anton Yelchin for Bilbo i say .

crazymoviesdude -> RE: Bilbo (13/6/2009 7:06:50 PM)

Lee is being Honoured! Finally!

Now all we need, is it to be Sir Brucey aswell and we're on our way.

That's an interesting one. You might be on to something!

Yeah, congrats Sir Lee! Here's hoping you can somehow manage an appearance as Saruman...or maybe voice Smaug?

BlueBalls -> RE: Bilbo (13/6/2009 11:54:45 PM)

They really should get Leonard Nimoy on board, he could just follow whoever is playing Bilbo around. He doesnt have to talk (although his great voice might add something to the film), all he has to sing this over and over and over again.....

Now tell me that wouldnt make for an awesome movie? [:D]

who_dude -> RE: Bilbo (14/6/2009 8:53:11 PM)

Great news that they are all coming back.

I say Ron Perlman for Beorn, or possibly the voice of Smaug

jobin -> I'm kinda guessing... (15/6/2009 3:32:17 PM)

that with wanted 2 in the pipeline, Mcavoy for bilbo is pretty unlikely....?

jobin -> Beorn (15/6/2009 3:33:05 PM)

love the idea of peralman as beorn...

although i always always always picture brian blessed.... but he is too old!

crazymoviesdude -> RE: Beorn (15/6/2009 4:07:54 PM)

I'm sure I read somewhere that there were rumblings of Pearlman being cast in a role. If this is true, I would assume that character would be Beorn.

It could have just as easily been a blog that was expressing hope for him being cast.

slimmy -> Dwarves (15/6/2009 4:13:58 PM)

i could see brian blessed being a dwarf, cud be gd
