richithekiller -> The original was directed by the guy who shot Grease. (26/5/2009 10:07:49 AM)

Strange but true.

cragiwan -> Stop with the reboots (26/5/2009 10:19:39 AM)

Why, why, why, why? What i sthe thought process of movie makers? Is it now a case of all stories have been written and no original concepts can be used any more or is it just easier to relaunch an old movie. I was an 80's kid, and I loved Flight of the navigator, but please don't ruin it with a remake.

Just leave the oldies alone. As much as I adore the likes of the Goonies, Gremlins, Back to the Future and The Karate Kid, I admit, I would love to see more of them on the big screen but not as a re-hash of the original stories.

Superhero movies are ok to reinvent as its a spin on the original comic book, not the original movie. Its an interpretation of a comic based character, which, in its comic book form, has many incarnations. But the remake of a movie is just wrong.

jmebaby25 -> Why?! (26/5/2009 10:20:00 AM)

The original was straight down the line average entertainment. Who the hell came up with an idea to remake it? Seriously - sack that guy and actually employ, ya know, some writers who can write an original movie.

All we get now are sequels or unimaginative writers rehashing old ground.

slowhands107 -> LARGE SHOES TO FILL. (26/5/2009 11:01:35 AM)

My only concern is, who can possibly fill 'THE' Albie Whitaker's shoes! who?WHO!? No one that’s who! That’s who.

GreatScott!!! -> Original = Dull, dull, dull! (26/5/2009 11:04:34 AM)

Another 90 mins of three-star averageness coming to a cinema near you soon!

britesparc -> Hey! (26/5/2009 11:20:30 AM)

I loved the original! One of my favourites as a kid, and it still holds up pretty well. Plus the central "mystery" (the kid hasn't aged) is kinda kooky for a kids' flick, and the FX are still quite impressive. Not 100% keen on a remake, but there are far worse films to re-do.

The Tingler -> Dear God, No! (26/5/2009 11:38:43 AM)

On the other hand, I'm not against a remake of The Neverending Story - provided they base it more on the book and actually put some effort into it.

Yes, I know they won't either.

Moody -> (26/5/2009 12:58:10 PM)

Wow! another remake of an 80's classic.

This sh!t never gets old.

You know I find it amusing the way... when it's announced that some movie of 70s or 80s awesomeness is to be remade, certain people see nothing but bad, saying "oh, there goes my childhood, they'll ruin it" and the like. then there's announcements of average or even quite poor 80s movies which could have been better and rather than the logical reaction of "oh.. well this is good... it's likely to be much better, and if not, it isnt like they're going to be makingthings any worse." its "the original wasshit, so'll this be".

make your bloody minds up will ya? and stop being such a bunch of miserable, pesemistic idiots. They remade a little film called king kong not long ago.. correct me if im wrong, but that was argued to be as good as if not better than the original. Starsky and Hutch. that was a good remake. They Rebooted the Batman Franchise.. and I remember quite distinctly the "oh god, it's gonna be another batman and robin" cries by you lot. Stop watching Eastenders and cheer up will ya? god you're a miserable bunch. Personally, i think this is a good idea. I have fond, but vague memories of the original.. i remember feeling it to be not bad. thats it. so if the remake fails i wont be losing sleep.

remember people. theres a difference between running out of ideas and running out of tallent. and for my money, we got it pretty good nowadays.

Black Mantis -> RE: (26/5/2009 4:27:29 PM)

Loved the original. I remember having a crush on SJP as well! Time hasn't been kind to her at all...

Filmfan 2 -> Another childhood memory raped! (26/5/2009 4:52:25 PM)

Whilst the effects of today would surely make for a lovely looking film, there's no real reason to remake this. It was excellent the first time around.

gss131 -> (26/5/2009 6:00:56 PM)

Hollywood bereft of ideas. We shoudl all avoid, I mean if we truley love films, why support remakes of films that are 10-20 yrs old? BOYCOTT.
Tell hollywood that we want originals now.

Sphinx -> RE: (26/5/2009 8:53:56 PM)

Awwwwwwwwwwww.......money-grabbing fecks! LEAVE IT ALONE![:@][:@]

ArtDepartmentAlbert -> (26/5/2009 11:54:34 PM)

it's got Effron written all over it.

Scruffybobby -> RE: (27/5/2009 9:46:23 AM)

I'm not a big fan of the original film, It kind of passed me by, but I really can't see the point in this. Same goes for the Short Circuit remake - why bother? Are there really no new ideas anymore?

Riggs -> Slight thought on comeback (2/10/2011 4:10:21 PM)

The Flight of the Navigator is one of my all time greatest films as a child. To see news on what I had slight thoughts were was a surprise but in all honesty I doubt they'll get the original feeling of the 80's adventure and successfully apply it the the re-boot. Cinema, these days, just doesn't have that special something....certainly no-where near the 80's style. I shall be keeping upto date with news on the beloved film of mine...very much so.
