morg1138 -> RE: Stupid war (4/6/2009 7:21:59 AM)

Really enjoyed this.  A good action/war movie.  The set pieces were fun and the CGI was looking good.  I went into this not expecting it to be on par with first two and that, I think, really helped.  The editing was a bit dodgy at times and some dialogue was a bit naff.  I suppose MCG is still young in his career but if he keeps up like this he might lose all the hate talk that follows him.

Sam Worthington and Anton Yelchin were both good, Yelchin especially.  Bale was Bale.  It would have been good to see a bit more of Bryce Dallas Howard.  Moon Bloodgood was, well good.  I wonder if there is a heap of footage/plot with Common on the cutting room floor.  A few interviews I read/saw with him and others stated that he was Connors best friend, but he did not have much screen time or say much.

Anyway really enjoyed it, looking forward to a second viewing and hope that they make a follow up.

(Marcus could easily have done in both at any time) - stupid little plot holes like that just pissed me off.

Good review, Marwood. Regarding the above though, Skynet wasn't controlling Marcus at that time was it? In fact, Skynet never had FULL control over Marcus, as they left too much human in him in order for him to convince as a human.

And to be fair, you can ask "why didn't Skynet just do this?" in every single Terminator film - not just this one!

Very solid summer flick and a promising start to a trilogy?

4/5

Bang on review Castor. Agree about Bale too, needed more of him in it. Perhaps struggling with coming to terms of being the savour of mankind and all. Just hope it makes enough cash for them to complete the trilogy and let us finally see the ultimate human victory we've heard about.

What is the point of the Harvester? if its kill them then why take them back to Skynet to do it? If the terminators are so intent on killing Kyle Reese, again why take him to Skynet and hold him prisoner JUST KILL HIM???

The point of the Harvester is (surprise, surprise) to harvest humans. Skynet has began the process of skinning humans using their skin for their latest batch of terminators.

And Skynet was using Kyle Reese as bait to get Connor there. Next time, pay attention. It will make more sense.

The REAL Bozz -> RE: Pointless (4/6/2009 1:03:02 PM)

SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!

I don't think Bale will come back. Somthing inside just don't see it happening. What do you think? I mean is he contracted to sequels? I hope the next one focuses on Kyle and Marcus. (Time travel=death meaningless), and hell Blair as well doing a bit of time travel.

I got the feeling the film was showing us the early stages of the future war. The glimpses we are shown in T1 +T2 are still a decade away from the point this film takes place in.

I know McG has stated the plot idea they have for T5 involves Connor traveling back to the present but the full force of Sky Net follows and he has to fight the future using are technology. Also aint Robert Patrick meant to be in the next one as a gene sceientist?

I don't wanna see time travel again to be honest. We've had 3 films of time travel, now I'm glad we're at the point of the future war and just hope we get so see it's conclusion.

See I'm not too clear on what level of control Skynet had over Marcus, I don't mean I need it spelled out but the scene where Serena's head explains how he's been manipulated suggested that every move he'd made was either calculated/predicted or subtly controlled by Skynet. However you're right, him rebelling at the end does show that he'd made a choice of his own - I suppose if Skynet had really been controlling him all along then after he says "Fuck you" to "Serena" then he could have simply been shut down there and then (what was the chip thing he tore out btw? was that part of the man-machine interface that Kate Connor mentioned earlier on?). My initial understanding was that he was subtly controlled but I see your point and perhaps another watch (on DVD) will clear that up for me.

Ok, I concede the logic holes point of all Terminator films - Skynet's plan for Reese and Connor in this one just stood out for me as being dumb.

But why?? why would they think reese who hadn't even met conner at that time in the movie would be someone conner would risk his life to save, Why was he number 1 on there hit list of targets? Conner was going to try and save everyone anyway. it made no sense unless of course they knew he was conners dad but then why did a super intellegent computer not think to just kill him??

i understand why they would go after conner as pretty much every human thought he was the saviour and gave them hope. Skynet would see it as a major coup to take him out.

Why would they need to harvest humans for skin when they have a brand spanking new machine that Sam Worthington uses to reform his body? surely that would more approrpiate than using a 70 year old woman and a 7 year old boy/girl? And if they were trying to lure Mr Connor to skynet using Kyle Reese then send a terminator that can terminate? Maybe one that has a gun? just a thought? It was all just too shoddy and a bit of an insult to fans of the first two! [image]http://www.empireonline.com/forum/micons/m8.gif[/image]

I dont think they were harvesting humans at all they captured them to lure conner to try and save them, with him mistkingly thinking that signal was gonna work.

1. How do we know Marcus's body is from that time?

2. Skynet needed humans to skin the T700 and the TRIPs

3. There are no Plasma rifles and an assault rifle does little to no damage to the TRIP.

4. In the extended cut the T RIP does have a gun, a mini gun from the T600.

somekindof_battery -> RE: Pointless (4/6/2009 1:55:47 PM)

I went to see Terminator Salvation last night but only managed an hour of it because the sound kept cutting out. In the end most people walked out of the cinema to get a refund. However what i did see was really enjoyable, a solid action flick for sure and waaaaay better than Terminator 3. I think there could be an excellent action trilogy here and i hope the film does well enough so we get those sequels. I've heard the American box office hasn't been as strong as they hoped but Terminator films usually do better overseas.

Paulicarz -> RE: Pointless (4/6/2009 1:59:34 PM)

Look seriously you are analysing it way too much! these are questions that any normal film goer would ask, not knowing or caring whether they are T700's or T600's with pulse rifles or exploding cod pieces or bad breath etc! There are obvious holes and without going over the back catalogue of terminator films or actually working for skynet you would not understand! See it from the point of view for somebody who just wants to watch THE FILM!! not sleep with a T5000000000!?

You answered your own question. It's his Dad. Not just gonna leave him to rot is he?

Terminator Salvation is not a standalone movie but a sequel. if anyone raised any questions then they should pay attention to the film and the earlier films. You raised some points and i answered them within a few minutes because i payed attention to the film and i had seen the prequels.

Paulicarz -> RE: Pointless (4/6/2009 3:33:45 PM)

Bollocks? seriously is that it? make your mind up i thought you enjoyed the film? Why wasn't megatron in it because the rest of the film seemed a cheap imitation to Transformers? and how come Kyle Reese was a small coloured child when in Terminator he was white?

Paulicarz -> RE: Poor Finale (4/6/2009 3:37:12 PM)

Are you joking?

Kyle Reese wasn't the kid in the film. The guy with him who said his name was 'Kyle Reese' over and over again was the one.

If you were joking, here's a tip for the future; jokes work really well when they are funny.

Posting the same negative crap 3 three times makes you even more mature.

The film merits a sequel.

Just in time for the Inglorious Basterds review, I'll bet...

Timon -> RE: shlurp shlurp shlurp... (4/6/2009 5:03:50 PM)

See, this is why I never put reviews in RR anymore. It scares me. I'll just keep my opinions to myself. I still haven't recovered from the tounge lashing I got for daring to enjoy Indiana Jones And The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Deviation -> RE: shlurp shlurp shlurp... (4/6/2009 5:06:31 PM)

Indy 4 was quite fun actually. Better than The Dark Knight.

*sits back and awaits fanboy whining*

ky -> RE: shlurp shlurp shlurp... (4/6/2009 5:08:50 PM)

I enjoyed the film, found it very exciting and quite interesting. However, I can see why a lot of people are complaining. It wasn't all I'd hoped it would be, but it still felt more in tune with the first film than the others.

Oh, and speaking of plot holes, the entire timeline is riddled with them - for example, why didn't Skynet just send the TX back to 1984 LA to kill Sarah Connor? Surely that'd make the most sense ....
