ORIGINAL: Marwood (Marcus could easily have done in both at any time) - stupid little plot holes like that just pissed me off. Good review, Marwood. Regarding the above though, Skynet wasn't controlling Marcus at that time was it? In fact, Skynet never had FULL control over Marcus, as they left too much human in him in order for him to convince as a human. And to be fair, you can ask "why didn't Skynet just do this?" in every single Terminator film - not just this one! See I'm not too clear on what level of control Skynet had over Marcus, I don't mean I need it spelled out but the scene where Serena's head explains how he's been manipulated suggested that every move he'd made was either calculated/predicted or subtly controlled by Skynet. However you're right, him rebelling at the end does show that he'd made a choice of his own - I suppose if Skynet had really been controlling him all along then after he says "Fuck you" to "Serena" then he could have simply been shut down there and then (what was the chip thing he tore out btw? was that part of the man-machine interface that Kate Connor mentioned earlier on?). My initial understanding was that he was subtly controlled but I see your point and perhaps another watch (on DVD) will clear that up for me. Ok, I concede the logic holes point of all Terminator films - Skynet's plan for Reese and Connor in this one just stood out for me as being dumb.
