You would have though The Dark Knight was actually more than an Ok film reading these results.

Helena Bonham Carter? Really? I love her but her performance in that film wasn't that amazing. Mind you, none of the nominees were very strong. Also, how on earth did Wanted win best sci-fi/superhero when Iron Man and The Dark Knight were nominated? My poor brain simply cannot fathom that at all. Empire readeres, why??

But this is the thing and I said this last year, not only Empire readers vote. Anyone who has heard of the awards (and will of after last year and the tele coverage) or who graces the Empire website can register simply at no cost and cast their votes. So when people joke about it being like an Ok film awards, they may not be too far from the truth!

Disagree with every single winner, besides Viggo.

SPEAKING OF. Everyone go and watch the video of his acceptance speech now. Not only is it the most drunken acceptance speech I've ever seen, it's also the funniest. Might have just lost himself a part in The Hobbit though...

What a legend, least Viggo had a good night[:D]

I am really quite disappointed that Robert Pattinson didn't get the Best Newcomer award!!! But Congrats to other award winners too...x)

I'm just after watching it now - hiarious stuff! The man is a hero. I'm not sure that it was quite the sort of product placement that Jameson were looking for though. [:D]

Twas funny. I still think John Hurt wins "most drunken speech ever" at these awards when presenting a career achivement award to Sigourney Weaver. Was a real sight to behold.

britesparc -> RE: Jameson Empire Awards 2009 (31/3/2009 3:28:54 PM)

I wish I'd been there, I fucking love Jameson's.

Not a bad awards, I think.  I still disagree with the very notion of genre awards (what is a thriller, anyway?), and I'd have liked to have seen There Will Be Blood pick something up, but nevermind.  I can't really argue with the films that won, and it was nice to see some British talent take home the little perspex boxes.

Michael Salkeld -> RE: Jameson Empire Awards 2009 (1/4/2009 1:00:44 AM)

Mamma-mia should have won the BAFTA the arrangements were spectacular, spectacular, spectacular, and fully deserved its win. For best sound track
I presume as in film sound track, not just CD.

Sway -> RE: Jameson Empire Awards 2009 (1/4/2009 8:10:32 AM)

I echo the sentiments about In Bruges - bit of a shitter that it didn't win as it's truly immense.   Although I think it was up against some tough competition really.   I, myself, loved RocknRolla, but would still have picked In Bruges over and above it.  And while I haven't seen it, I've read and been told that Hunger is a fantastic film too. I loved Gerard's pat on Guy's arse at the end of the acceptance to make up for his cheeky swipe at him.

I also loved Viggo Mortensen's acceptance speech - he was hilarious.  I particularly loved the change of subject, 'Let's talk about Sean Bean.'    You just know Sean was standing there thinking, 'Oh fuck!' [sm=scared04.gif]  Brilliant stuff!

James McAvoy's also made me laugh with, 'Oh my God I got an award from The CAG'!

IMac -> RE: Jameson Empire Awards 2009 (2/4/2009 12:15:32 AM)

WHY HAS EMPIRE CUT THE LAST THIRD OF VIGGO'S SPEECH OUT?...IT WAS LIKE THE BEST ACCEPTANCE SPEECH EVER AND I WANT TO SEE ALL OF IT!!!

JaydiiLaydii -> RE: Jameson Empire Awards 2009 (9/4/2009 11:03:25 PM)

On offence to people that may disagree with me, but I Really think that Robert Pattinson should definitely won Best Newcomer. I am so disappointed that he didn't, he really deserved it! Xxx

Blue Ryan -> RE: Jameson Empire Awards 2009 (14/4/2009 4:49:52 PM)

I really don't like complaining at Empire because they are superb at everything they do. However it appears that some awards were a shamble this year. Best thriller: Quantum of Solace. Have the readers gone totally bonkers. I think that should have gone to No country... In Bruges should have won best comedy and best british film. Wow some of the readers off this magazine are completly oblivious to outstanding films

Blue Ryan -> RE: Jameson Empire Awards 2009 (14/4/2009 4:51:15 PM)

How did There Will Be Blood not pick up a single award? How?

JamesHare -> RE: Jameson Empire Awards 2009 (8/10/2009 4:24:21 PM)

Its why the awards are judged to be the best and not based on every single persons opinion, can you imagine? You'd never be able to make a decision.
