Sumintelligentguy -> DnB and Dubstep - where to start? (17/3/2009 6:37:48 PM)

At uni the on Saturday there was a night called Formation, which is basically a Drum and Bass and Dubstep night, i wanted to go but tickets were sold out and tbh, i'm don't really know too much (what i have heard has been pretty good) about this style of music and wondered if any of you lot knew.

And suggestions are welcome.

oh, and anyone but Pendulum.

No idea about D&B, but get hold of the first five Dubstep Allstars compilations, prett essential and a great introduction to it.

Toby Monroe -> RE: DnB and Dubstep - where to start? (18/3/2009 12:33:19 PM)

I was looking through some old CDs t'other day to see if there was anything there worth sticking on the ipod, and I came across Black Secret Technology by A Guy Called Gerald, of Oooh oooh aah, haa ha yeah (Voodoo Ray) fame.

It's rubbish. Not much of a recommendation, but if you like Drum'n'Bass you may like it. I also found Goldie's Saturn Returns album. What the hell was Mother all about?

Hardcore Raver -> RE: DnB and Dubstep - where to start? (18/3/2009 6:02:01 PM)

I don't know anything about dubstep, but for DnB you could do worse than check out the following artists:
High Contrast (click)
Clipz (click)
Dillinja (click)
LTJ Bukem (click)
Shy FX (click)
DJ Zinc (click)

That's a pretty varied list with new and older stuff. Personally I'm a big fan of older DnB, up to about 1998. I do still listen to later stuff but for me it's all about the old skool.

moontheloon -> RE: DnB and Dubstep - where to start? (18/3/2009 8:32:25 PM)

Agree with the boxes of dub and the burial albums, not heard the rest. I would also like to add the bugs- London Zoo... which is great.[:D]

Olaf -> RE: DnB and Dubstep - where to start? (18/3/2009 8:56:26 PM)

I quite like Radiodread and Dub Side Of The Moon.

Same as me but my record collection goes up to about 2001 as that's when I stopped going to raves and that...I was never really into the CD's or albums of DnB I was more into the scene and the raves, the tape packs and playing the tunes at home

Having said that though AWOL live at the Ministry of Sound CD is one of my favourite Dnb things ever but you'd be hard pushed to find that

elfzooey -> RE: DnB and Dubstep - where to start? (8/11/2009 12:32:37 PM)

elfzooey -> RE: DnB and Dubstep - where to start? (9/11/2009 12:42:03 AM)

elfzooey -> RE: DnB and Dubstep - where to start? (12/11/2009 12:26:04 AM)

Fresh the faces of Baby Monster and Jakwob comes the remixes for Ellie Gouldings debut single 'Under The Sheets'

Make sure you check them both out! The Jakwob one is on his myspace and Baby Monster can be found easily through google.

Deffinitley not too be missed.

elfzooey -> RE: DnB and Dubstep - where to start? (18/12/2009 1:56:46 AM)

Got few bangers for you guys to check out.

Basement Jaxx - Twerk feat. Yo Majesty (Sub Focus Remix) - My favourite dnb tune at the moment, skanky skanky.

Silkie - Cyberdub (Skream Remix) - Skream played this a while back on his Stella Sessions but he has now finished this and the full version is very impressive.

Doctor P - Sweet Shop/ Badman Sound
- Man of moment Doctor P has been ripping it up throughout clubs and he is deffo somehwat to lookout for in 2010.

Breakage ft Newhame Generals and David Rodigan - Hard (Caspa Remix)
- Again a lot of hype going around at the moment concerning this tune, more mellow than the others but still a tune with a good vibe to it.

Olaf -> RE: DnB and Dubstep - where to start? (18/12/2009 8:04:28 PM)

Beyond the obvious ones I've only really gotten into dubstep over the last couple of months (a lot more fans in college than there were in secondary school) so I've been going through a couple of the artists above, some of the stuff you've mentioned so far is ace elfzooey. Keep up the good work [:D]

Sumintelligentguy -> RE: DnB and Dubstep - where to start? (18/12/2009 11:07:33 PM)

Yeah sorry man i've just noticed this... I'll get cracking on listening to you lists.

elfzooey -> RE: DnB and Dubstep - where to start? (30/12/2009 4:16:29 PM)

Right, got a mixture of old/new tunes and electro pop, dnb and dubstep.

Danny Byrd vs Liquid - Sweet Harmony. Such a banger! Delightful joy to the ear....eargasm.

Bachelors of Science - The Beautiful Life
. This is such a uplifting dnb tune and very touching *wipes a tear*

Visage - Fade To Grey (Fears of Tigers remix).
Guys I'm not even shitting you but Fear of Tigers is one of the best things I've listened too in 2009, make sure you check out his album very happy up beat tunes that's bound to put a smile on your face.

Darkstar - Aidy's Girl Is A Computer
. Sounds of minimal electro with a mealodic vibe.

Flux Pavillion
- Digital Controller

Tomba - Choke On Coke E
P. This EP is absolute filth, if you like your dubstep dark this is the guy for you. I don't think I've ever heard such disturbing sounds. Not for the faint hearted.

Plastician - Japan
. Great relaxing sound, makes you stop and think. If you like this check out Caspa's "Cockney Violin"

Goth-Trad. Got no specific tunes for this artist as he's simply awsome, Japans godfather of dubstep.

tommyjarvis -> RE: DnB and Dubstep - where to start? (30/12/2009 4:25:46 PM)

What is 'dubstep'?

elfzooey -> RE: DnB and Dubstep - where to start? (30/12/2009 5:29:09 PM)

Mmmm it's hard to answer, the sound itself is still relatively new and it would be unfair to just name it on the spot however a majority of dubstep is bass driven with a lower tempo than drum and bass. This year especially the genre has become much more diverse with more and more producers trying out new sounds therefore making some tunes increasingly difficult to identify as dubstep.

hubu_phonk -> RE: DnB and Dubstep - where to start? (23/5/2012 12:33:22 PM)

^ i only had a Roni Size album, some Grooverider ( think it was him, it was an unlabelled cassette tape ) and a tidy wee comp called '21st century Breakbeat'. Never knew much but i loved going to D 'n' B nights, but that was just an excuse to get wiped out [:D]
