matthewforan -> The Football Manager/Championship Manager Thread (6/1/2009 5:13:18 PM)

I've been playing these games for years and recently talking to one of my mates at new year he was telling me all about the new stuff in FM09 and how much it had changed since the good old days of Championship Manager 2 from the mid 90's. I have some brilliantly embarrassing stories and I'm sure you all do to so come on lets talk about the old times and the new.

Epiphany Demon -> RE: The Football Manager/Championship Manager Thread (6/1/2009 5:18:17 PM)

I've been waiting for this thread since about 4 minutes ago when we mentioned it.

Anyone got tactics for FM09? I can't win [:(]

paul_ie86 -> RE: The Football Manager/Championship Manager Thread (6/1/2009 5:31:36 PM)

My copy just came today. What's the deal with Steam?

Olaf -> RE: The Football Manager/Championship Manager Thread (6/1/2009 5:33:27 PM)

Does this mean you'll be starting the Jenny Thread?

Rhubarb -> RE: The Football Manager/Championship Manager Thread (6/1/2009 5:36:11 PM)

Championship Manager 2 ftw!

Seriously though, I'm about to start a new game on 09, not sure who to be.

Neither do I. I'm thinking about Blackburn and Sunderland - they don't have managers on this, due to Ince and Keano leaving.
But I do like the lower league teams.

BUT I need to win. And I have no good tactics.

Conundrum of the highest order.

Rhubarb -> RE: The Football Manager/Championship Manager Thread (6/1/2009 5:47:57 PM)

On Football manager 08, i sussed that the formation to win everything was to play

4-1-1-2-2. Worked like a charm. But it doesn't seem to work on this one, so I'm out of ideas.

James2183 -> RE: The Football Manager/Championship Manager Thread (6/1/2009 5:48:03 PM)

Got FM08 last year and was bored within two weeks. I am all for expansion but there was just too much to take care of in the game and it made it a lot less fun to be a part of.

I still play CM 01/02 regulary though.

Rhubarb -> RE: The Football Manager/Championship Manager Thread (6/1/2009 5:49:13 PM)

CM 01 was a brilliant incarnation. My second favouritre behind Cm2

Epiphany Demon -> RE: The Football Manager/Championship Manager Thread (6/1/2009 5:51:25 PM)

It's not just the formation, it's the tactics as well, isn't it?

I hate it.

paul_ie86 -> RE: The Football Manager/Championship Manager Thread (6/1/2009 5:53:16 PM)

I think CM01 was the first CM I played regularly

I don't know, that stuff all confused me completely, so i downloaded an illegal copy to go alongside my legit one I couldn't understand [:D]

Olaf -> RE: The Football Manager/Championship Manager Thread (6/1/2009 5:56:13 PM)

I've got FM06, couldn't get into it. CM01 was a different matter though, I was addicted to that game. I recall playing as Chelsea to winning everything until my top goalscorer (Ebbe Sand, a bargain in that game) went mental in the Champions League final. Seriously, he pushed refs, started a fistfight, received a twelve month ban. Good times.

Epiphany Demon -> RE: The Football Manager/Championship Manager Thread (6/1/2009 5:58:06 PM)

I don't even have the disc in the computer. Whoops.

Wait, where is it?!

[:D]

I won the Champions League as Real Madrid, and then got given the Republic of Ireland job (no idea why...) and ended up trashing my reputation in about half the time it took me to build it [:D]

I'm failing to comprehend what I just read.

I know yeah. But I took the ROI job cos I'd done it all at Real, and England were doing ok back in the heady early-Sven days. I wasn't cut out for international management though.

Although on 96/97, I won the World Cup with England, beating Italy on Penalties in the final. That was a really good day.

Gonna start a new game on 08 now. Dunno whether to do a game with my beloved lower league Bristol Rovers and struggle, or pick a Prem side and try and win something.

I love when me and my friends use manager speak while discussing this game [:D]

I just want some good tactics for 09... and I cannot be arsed to roam the internet for them. Someone do it for me, I'll give them a sandwich.

matthewforan -> RE: The Football Manager/Championship Manager Thread (6/1/2009 6:15:35 PM)

I've just done my 8th title in a row with Celtic, Greece and Czech Rep keep offering me the managerial position I'm waiting on Argentina or Brazil to come knocking. Spain at a push.

Rhubarb -> RE: The Football Manager/Championship Manager Thread (6/1/2009 6:17:03 PM)

I always find myself thinking like a real manager, when talking about the game [:D] When i talk to the press on the modern games I'm always doing a really imaginitive interview in my head [:D]

Rhubarb -> RE: The Football Manager/Championship Manager Thread (6/1/2009 6:17:26 PM)

What's in the sandwhich?

[:D] I imagine it in a Scottish accent most the time, regardless of whether my manager's from there or Zimbabwe.

Erm... bacon? Well done?
And with the smell intact?

Did you ever think that Sven's period as manager was an allegory for Tony Blair? Think about it. [smokes pipe]

Oh my goodness...That's really well spotted.

Epiphany Demon -> RE: The Football Manager/Championship Manager Thread (6/1/2009 6:29:02 PM)

Capello and Brown, Olaf? Want to make something of it? [:D]

Rhubarb -> RE: The Football Manager/Championship Manager Thread (6/1/2009 6:31:34 PM)

Nah its gone better for Don Fabio than it did for Brown. Thankfully.

Olaf -> RE: The Football Manager/Championship Manager Thread (6/1/2009 6:36:14 PM)

True, he's avoided Sven/Blair's mistakes so far.

Epiphany Demon -> RE: The Football Manager/Championship Manager Thread (6/1/2009 6:40:06 PM)

McClaren and Saddam I presume, is the next comparison.

matthewforan -> RE: The Football Manager/Championship Manager Thread (6/1/2009 6:44:36 PM)

I went England once and I fucked them up on purpose that was a good job [:D] I still had it longer than Steve McClaren.

I'd do that with Scotland. But I don't need to. [:D]
