More shots of the normal looking vehicles on a lot on comic book movie, i have no idea why the vehicles are looking as they are now. Unless they maybe they are part of the origin story like the begining of mega city one.

jobloffski -> RE: Urban is Dredd? (27/1/2011 8:34:25 PM)

Kinda suggested the same thing before seeing the picture of the bike (ie, wondered if the story of the film would show the 'need' for the kind of martial law depicted by the comic strip, and as a result the funding needed for that would pay for the hardware as depicted by the strip in terms of the Judge uniforms, bikes, weapons etc).

After seeing the pic of the bike I double, quadruple, quintuple hope my pre-bike optimism is justified. Whatever is wrong with the Stallone film, at least it knew good hardware design when it saw it (only needed to copy what the artists originally drew). And If anyone was born to play Dredd it was surely Sly (its just a shame the producers couldn't rely on casting someone as well known as him as a good enough justification for leaving the helmet on, since via Rocky and Rambo, everybody already knew what he looked like. Hopefully, post V for Vendetta, the studio bods accept a known face can play someone whose face is never seen and that fact by itself can be used as a marketing tool, be presented as being faithful to source material, thus turning a potential problem into a selling point).

I hope you're right.
Because that Lawmaster has crushed me!

Spaldron -> RE: Urban is Dredd? (20/6/2011 1:26:15 AM)

Anyone dread (cough) this films gonna be straight to dvd crap? The pics look terrible (what's with the helmet?), the budget is tiny for a film like this and despite a script by Alex Garland there just seems to be no positive buzz around this which there really should be by now.

Gkel -> RE: Urban is Dredd? (20/6/2011 6:43:52 AM)

The Stallone movie did have good costumes etc. Dont like the new ones--maybe its copyright/trademark related-they couldnt use the comic designs because of copyrights etc on the Stallone movie.

I assume its the same reason the new Spider-man costume has changed--either that or they want to sell new toys.

Have they even finished filming yet? Bit early to be talking about buzz.

I think that could actually help, if they're going back to the gritty, decayed feel of the classic 2000AD stories. It'll mean less glossy and unnescessary CGI for a start.

It's in post production right now. It's out in December I think so you'd expect there to be some kind of hype by now or even a teaser but all we got is some crap pics.

Yeah but can a $50m budget realise the sprawling Mega-City One?

I don't see why not, I think there's been a few films recently that have demonstrated you don't need an extravagant budget to make a film look good - Distrct 9, Moon, Skyline, Monsters... you can argue about whether they are good movies but I think they all show that 'modest' budgets can still go a long way, and Dredd has a larger pot than all of those combined. Besides, I suppose it depends on the story as to how much of Mega-City One really needs to be depicted anyway.

Spaldron -> RE: Urban is Dredd? (20/6/2011 5:18:55 PM)

Aye I suppose if they're making a gritty street level film then they don't need swanky shots of 'blocks' going off in to the distance. Apparently much of the crew from District 9 are on this so I'd expect it to have a similar feel to it.

Trying to think of any comparable, great lowbudget movies. And the closest are RoboCop 13,mill$(1987)

So it can be done.

ncc74656 -> RE: New Judge Dredd film greenlit (29/6/2011 1:49:21 PM)

Instead of doing the Judge Dredd film they should do Rogue trooper

DeppBurtonAlliance -> RE: New Judge Dredd film greenlit (1/8/2011 2:11:25 PM)

It's time for the world to accept that their will never be a brilliant Dredd film. Even if handled by someone who worships the source material no film can live up to decades of fantastic Dredd strips. The only director who has the smallest chance of exciting me regarding Dredd is Ridley Scott, and that's never going to happen.

Rgirvan44 -> RE: New Judge Dredd film greenlit (1/8/2011 2:15:08 PM)

There is a brilliant Dredd film - its called Robocop.

Timon -> RE: New Judge Dredd film greenlit (1/8/2011 2:22:56 PM)

After reading the article in the new issue, i'm quite excited especially seeing as the Dredd creator has signed off on it and seems to like what he's seen.

The REAL Bozz -> RE: New Judge Dredd film greenlit (1/8/2011 4:02:55 PM)

Weren't the script review dead positive fromt the get go anyway? Only thing I've noticed is people moaning about the helmet size[:D]. I reckon the film's gonna be mint!

darth silas -> RE: New Judge Dredd film greenlit (1/8/2011 7:26:20 PM)

I think this movie is shaping up VERY well. The new photos of Urban as Dredd in the magazine look great and im really likeing the down and dirty approach the filmakers are taking with this film. Its a hopefully hard R rated film and they have confirmed that Dredd doesnt take his helmet off.Whats not to like?

The REAL Bozz -> RE: New Judge Dredd film greenlit (1/8/2011 7:46:26 PM)

Well according to one of mates the helmet is wrong and the shoulder pads are a disaster and based on these 2 factors the film is set to fail![:D] Honestly....some people eh?

Urban's silly Dredd scowl - I know that's the classic look from the comics but it just looks like he's pulling a face. Hopefully that's just a publicity thing and we won't be doing it throughout the film.

ncc74656 -> RE: New Judge Dredd film greenlit (5/8/2011 2:02:29 PM)

Lets hope Karl Urban is better as Dredd than Sly

So do I. And much as this may surprise many people, Snake-Eyes always believed that the 1995 film may have been a decent Sly actioner but not a very good 'Judge Dredd' film. I was reading the EMPIRE article on the new film and I'm actually looking forward to it. Could be cool. I like the fact that Mr. Urban will NOT be removing the icoinc helmet.

http://comicbookmovie.com/fansites/rorschachsrants/news/?a=47725

Director trouble on a Judge Dredd picture? Well I never....

My theory - producers saw the trailer for The Raid and realised that nothing, but nothing in their film was as cool as 1.58 minutes worth of greatness.

The REAL Bozz -> RE: JUDGE DREDD (7/10/2011 7:17:51 PM)

Just about to post that. Oh shit...doesn't bode well. I honestly thought this would be a goodin. I disagree with your theory though mate, have you read the script for Dredd?? It was written way before the Raid and is brilliantly action packed. If anything I thought The Raid with riffing off Dredd.

rich -> RE: JUDGE DREDD (7/10/2011 7:20:03 PM)

It's in post production though, I'm sure it will get finished

Uh-oh.

Still to be fair this sort of thing happens and doesn't always result in a crap film, just most of the time it does. [:D]

The REAL Bozz -> RE: JUDGE DREDD (7/10/2011 7:21:54 PM)

If it stuck to the script no one has anything to worry about.

Spaldron -> RE: JUDGE DREDD (7/10/2011 7:26:03 PM)

You think maybe Alex Garland is on some sort of power trip/control freakery deal?

The REAL Bozz -> RE: JUDGE DREDD (7/10/2011 7:28:36 PM)

I don't know...I've met him. We got into a debate over 28 Days Later. He seemed okay. Can't really see him going off on one. I accused his script of ripping off the end of Resident Evil. He defended it.
