So what do you think? Let us know below!

Stewie_Griffin -> RE: The 100 Greatest Movie Characters (21/11/2008 4:32:18 PM)

Waits for the obligatory "Empire got it wrong lol" posts

Rgirvan44 -> RE: The 100 Greatest Movie Characters (21/11/2008 4:34:13 PM)

Gee, I wonder which one will cause a lot of complaints....

Stewie_Griffin -> RE: The 100 Greatest Movie Characters (21/11/2008 4:35:46 PM)

Does it matter? People will always find something to bitch about.

Oh I know - and I'm not bothered. Happy to see Ripley so high, not  just a great female heroine - one of the best realised sci-fi chracters. Her performance in Alien 3 should her earned her an Oscar nod.

jonson -> RE: The 100 Greatest Movie Characters (21/11/2008 4:43:01 PM)

A good Top 10, not sure about The Joker at No.3 though (wouldn't have made the Top 30 if Heath Ledger hadn't snuffed it)
Only having Quint at No.50 is a disgrace, and Donnie effing Darko at No.38 makes me want to vomit, especially as it's higher than Blade or Mary Poppins. [:@]
Anyway, mustn't grumble.
Is there a link to the full list Helen?

directorscut -> RE: The 100 Greatest Movie Characters (21/11/2008 5:37:37 PM)

Congrats Empire readers,  I did not know such depths of awfulness could actually re reached but you've proved me wrong.

gonzo696 -> RE: The 100 Greatest Movie Characters (21/11/2008 5:57:51 PM)

WHERE IS DOC HOLLIDAY FROM TOMBSTONE???!?!?!?!

Sorry Val, you got ripped off.

hitchcock -> RE: The 100 Greatest Movie Characters (21/11/2008 6:07:46 PM)

some real surprising entrie sin there, shame there was no Jack Skellington and i was shitting my pants thinking that the joker wasn't gonna show up, but it was a fun read never the less

Agent69 -> RE: The 100 Greatest Movie Characters (21/11/2008 6:27:25 PM)

NAY for Joker at #3
YAY for Ripley as top female character.

KnightofZyryab -> RE: The 100 Greatest Movie Characters (21/11/2008 6:31:57 PM)

Tyler Durden at 1 ? Do people actually watch any other films ? An awful list.

Noelg25 -> RE: The 100 Greatest Movie Characters (21/11/2008 6:47:17 PM)

I'm not going to comment cos 3 out of my 5 showed up...my only complaint is that I wish the list was bigger...200 would have been a nice number i think...

Comments like these are as valid as anyone elses.  But to stem the inevitable tide of safely dispensed bile it has to be a situation of "money where your mouth is" time.  If people won't take specific issue and will instead generalise I'd like them to print their own top 5* for approval or ridicule as they might find it.

For me the list was awful in places and awfully good in others.  Take the good with the bad and all that.

*(Oh and my top 5 are in the sister thread of this one)

Pollygw -> RE: The 100 Greatest Movie Characters (21/11/2008 7:16:27 PM)

Where is Captain Willard (Martin Sheen) from Apocalypse Now?

mlc730 -> RE: The 100 Greatest Movie Characters (21/11/2008 7:24:15 PM)

How does Rocky Balboa get on the list and not Popeye Doyle. This is ridiculous.

willchadwick -> RE: The 100 Greatest Movie Characters (21/11/2008 7:25:31 PM)

Where is Jake La Motta? Where is Colonel Kurtz? Where is Rick Deckard? Where is Oskar Schindler? Where is Jake Gittes?

In some respects it is an admirable list but in others it is quite frankly appalling

klaramee -> RE: The 100 Greatest Movie Characters (21/11/2008 7:27:17 PM)

Willy Wonka (Wilder, not Depp), Bud White in LA Confidential, John Doe in Seven?

berty2001 -> RE: The 100 Greatest Movie Characters (21/11/2008 7:33:02 PM)

Surely if it's greatest 'character' it has to be the character in all it forms. So you, can't just pick Sean Connery's James Bond from Goldfinder, it has to be all James Bonds, all Hannibal Lecters, The Terminator from Terminator 1,2, and 3.

Also no Trent from Swingers - come on people, that's not very money is it!

DouglasG -> RE: The 100 Greatest Movie Characters (21/11/2008 7:37:09 PM)

As everyone complains, people need to stop blaming empire and look at themselves. Sure, the list is shit, but the only one to blame is you. [:D]

Not me, I didn't vote. [:D]

hatebox -> RE: The 100 Greatest Movie Characters (21/11/2008 9:15:25 PM)

Joker at number 3 but no Batman at all? Pity.

girlinpearls -> RE: The 100 Greatest Movie Characters (21/11/2008 9:35:03 PM)

I am just curious to know who the voters are in these lists and the sort of films they see, as there are only 11 female characters in it. Seriously, come on now.

t_bell -> RE: The 100 Greatest Movie Characters (21/11/2008 9:43:28 PM)

Not bad, all though there does seem to be a bias towards new films.
But I suppose its a reader's poll and newer films are bound to stick in the head.
Can't believe Norma Desmond didn't make it though!!! [:(]

the caped crusader -> STUNTMAN MIKE FTW!!!!! (21/11/2008 9:47:02 PM)

why on earth isnt stuntman mike( kurt russel ) form death proof not on the list????

i demand a recount!

Jok3rX -> RE: STUNTMAN MIKE FTW!!!!! (21/11/2008 9:52:09 PM)

Tyler Durden should not have been #1. Complete BS. He is a great character but I dont think I'm the only one that thinks he should not have been at the top of this list. I think Either The Dude, The Joker, Darth Vader, or Vito Corleone should've been before Tyler. Oh well, at least the greatest screen version of The Joker is in the top 5.

hoeech -> RE: The 100 Greatest Movie Characters (21/11/2008 9:57:24 PM)

Ellen Ripley is ranked a more iconic character than Michael AND Vito Corleone?  Tommy Devito is ONE RANKING higher than Ace Ventura?  This is a joke.  I'm surprised Spongebob didn't make the cut. [:'(]

faulknerdrummer -> RE: The 100 Greatest Movie Characters (21/11/2008 10:00:39 PM)

i was surprised that Nick Frost's 'Ed' from Shaun of the Dead is more popular than Nick Frost's 'Danny' from Hot Fuzz...

hoeech -> RE: The 100 Greatest Movie Characters (21/11/2008 10:03:24 PM)

Ask 100 people off the street who Tyler Durden is.  Maybe 10 will mention Fight Club.  Ask the same 100 who Don Corleone is and ALL of the will say "The Godfather"

faulknerdrummer -> RE: The 100 Greatest Movie Characters (21/11/2008 10:04:01 PM)

...and by most of the Top 10. To me, the best characters don't have to be the central characters. My top 5

Jack Sparrow from Pirates
Dignan from Bottle Rocket
Lester Bangs from Almost Famous
Wall-e from Wall-e
Danny from hot Fuzz

joebro -> RE: The 100 Greatest Movie Characters (21/11/2008 10:14:10 PM)

Spicoli needs to be on this list.
