Goodfella -> Blogs (16/10/2008 10:39:34 PM)

So who here actually has one? I mean aside from the ones Empire give you.

I just set my old one up on a new blogger...

http://greenwichaddick.blog-4u.co.uk/ (it won't interest any of you...)

What about everybody else?

Rhubarb -> RE: Blogs (17/10/2008 12:51:15 AM)

I've started like five and I never keep them up really, though I do one for The Offside as epl.theoffside.com, which i keep up when I can. As well as doing the odd thing for www.cultofcinema.com. When Piles can be bothered.

jonson -> RE: Blogs (17/10/2008 8:07:23 AM)

To be honest I have no idea what they are.
I hear them mentioned a lot but must admit I've never read anyone's.
I assume (correct me if I'm wrong) that they are just "online diaries". Quite what the attraction of sharing your day with the rest of the world is, I don't know.

Yeah they are basically a cheap, mini version of a website. Some of them are free, easy and quick to open, a poor man's website if you will but I think some of them are really quite good. The easiest way to make your's popular is to join an online community. Mine's advertised on several other Charlton blogs and forums and also on the fans page of the OS, this means you get more hits and if you do some decent writing it makes the thing worthwhile. No point opening a blog only you read.

audreyhepburnfan -> RE: Blogs (5/4/2009 10:45:40 AM)

I've been searching the Empire forums to check out views on blogs and thought I'd get in on the action. I recently set up my own film blog on blogger (http://screenspeak.blogspot.com/) and really want to get more readers and comments. Does anyone havae any tips on getting a wider audience?

ilovebeerme -> RE: Blogs (5/4/2009 1:22:32 PM)

I've been writing about food and wine over at http://kitchendecanted.com for a couple of months now. It's nice to do something a little creative outside of work and it's great fun to write.

If you fancy reading my reaction to my first Big Mac in nearly 20 years then head over and check it out. Don't be shy [:D]

You can write what you like, though. You don't have to write it in diary form; you can write your exciting opinions of general stuff that's going on that interests you So a film blog where you write about films you like would be interesting to many people here - assuming you could write and that you could say something interesting about film.

And even if you did just write an online diary, it might actually be of interest to friends and family - just because it's on the internet and can be read by anybody doesn't mean you expect it to be.

Just because you lead a boring life doesn't mean the rest of us do...

I keep one to keep my friends and family informed of my Korean adventures.

i dont really know if i have any tips as such for gaining an audience but the important thing is to keep up with it, and keep it as up to date as possible. i do a film one too, i started it a few years back but restarted it in a more professional manner last october. since then i have learnt to plug it wherever and whenever i get the chance, albeit subtly so as to not annoy. also a focus is important, mine is that i write a piece on every film i see, before putting them into a list in order of preference, which eventually will be thousands strong. i have a healthy readership, including at least one person of middling celebrity (who only contacted me after i insulted him on there), and just last week bought my own domain name, after hosting on blogspot previously. my official title is http://hopeliesat24framespersecond.blogspot.com which is a bit of a mouthful, so now my address is simply http://hopelies.com .

ilovebeerme -> RE: Blogs (6/4/2009 1:02:00 AM)

Heh heh, nothing wrong with that. As you read they’re still not my cup of tea, but I won’t be telling people that they taste disgusting anymore.

Been loads of folk from Empire reading the blog over the last day and it’s helped push it onto the best day ever. So thanks. There are some interesting (hopefully) posts coming up soon, so if you like what you read please don’t be a stranger. If you have a point to make about anything on there it would be great to read your opinion.

Also, if you’re interested, please try some of the recipes and let me know how you get on. They are all tried and tested, pretty straight forward and hopefully delicious. Would be fantastic to hear from anybody that has made anything of the list.

Some great articles on there, good job. Some of the coloured text is a little hard to read though (especially the ‘crippled but excited’ post). I think it might be better off in black or white.

This is all info I was given by a successful blogger when I started - It’s worth joining up with Twitter to let people know about your blog, but be sure to post content aside from your own, otherwise people get tired of you pretty fast. It’s also worth submitting them to Digg, Stumbleupon and Reddit and encouraging others to do so. Most traffic I get is from other blogs. It’s important to find other blogs in your subject area and also comment on their posts, but make sure it’s meaningful comments and not just ‘Yeah, I agree’. That way the trackbacks you get when you leave your post should drive some traffic your way. If you have a facebook account you can join Networked Blogs too, although it tends to be just mates that find you there.

Most important is the content and you definitely have that. The rest is just marketing [:D]

Mogwai -> RE: Blogs (6/4/2009 10:31:28 AM)

I've just made a blog, I thought that I might as well seeing everyone is doing it. It has only one post at the moment, please check it out at http://damnedconjuror.wordpress.com/

That's a great idea. I've been struggling a bit with the focus as I am interested in so many different areas of film. All of my entries seem a bit random at the mo. But ta for the advice, I will have to ponder on that one

Thanks for your comments and help. I'll be sure to look at the colours/layout. Marketing is a bitch but I'm gonna try to comment on other blogs more and take a look at that Networked Blogs. Thanks [:)]

[:D] I was bored. I apologise. I read the Grand Burger Faceoff. Good idea. Whilst I am not a food snob I have been getting rid of the junk over the past few years. Some stuff I really can not go back to! Whilst not tottally horrible thing's like fizzy drinks taste so full of sugar and well fizzness if you have not had them for ages. But if somthing is pure sugar, fat, grease...it's easy to get addicted again! I was going to suggest you try the Fine Burger Co burgers but I seem to remember you live in Aussie?

ilovebeerme -> RE: Blogs (7/4/2009 11:33:16 AM)

There have been a lot of people from Empire reading my blog over the last couple of days (thanks [:)] ) and I'm just curious; does anybody who had a look actually intend to try out any of the recipes that are on there?

I enjoy writing the posts so it's not really a big deal either way, but I'm interested as to whether it's a 5 minute distraction or actually of some use?

So, anybody tried or planning to try any of the recipes? Do you try recipes from other food blogs?

I did (Mmmmm, mushrooms) [:D]

ilovebeerme -> RE: Blogs (7/4/2009 12:00:15 PM)

Ah excellent! Nice to know it's being put to some use.

Things are still a bit all over the place just now, but it should settle down. Gonna be a good mix of reviews, recipes and general food chat.

Glad you enjoyed the mushrooms on toast [:D]

Mr Dead -> RE: Blogs (7/4/2009 12:33:54 PM)

That mushroom one looks a bit good...i think that may well be sampled over the Easter weekend. i'll drop you some feedback.

Hobbitonlass -> RE: Blogs (7/4/2009 12:36:22 PM)

It was really easy to make and very very tasty! [:)]

ilovebeerme -> RE: Blogs (7/4/2009 12:39:43 PM)

Cool, hope you like it Mr Dead. It really is tasty. I like it best with some nice sourdough or baguette.

The Harira Soup was good too and easy once you get going. Got a good few things lined up for over Easter.

Mr Dead -> RE: Blogs (7/4/2009 1:03:18 PM)

Just had a look at the Harira soup recipe and its now priniting out for use in the very near future. Sir i salute you![:D]

Hobbitonlass -> RE: Blogs (7/4/2009 1:09:07 PM)

Oh my word!   I really should stop reading that at lunchtime.  That apple crumble had me salivating.  Love the idea of blueberries in it, I'm addicted to blueberries and have been on at my Dad to start growing them as the price is extortionate at the moment. [:D]
