Twice Academy Award winner Denzel W. is too old for this. Plus, I understand he's currently working in The Book of Eli to be released in 2009, and Inside Man 2 has been announced for 2010.
I don't think sci-fi / comic books are his style. I remember Virtuosity with Russell Crowe...we call this one a "potato" back home.

somekindof_battery -> RE: RE: (12/9/2008 1:36:54 AM)

Thank god you refered to those two academy awards, i was getting Denzel Washington mixed up with the interpretive dancer Denzel Washington[;)]

Incanus -> RE: RE: (12/9/2008 1:38:31 AM)

I don't get it. My love for the Halfling's leaf has clearly slowed my mind.

somekindof_battery -> RE: RE: (12/9/2008 1:39:58 AM)

It was just a pointless bit of information was all.

Incanus -> RE: RE: (12/9/2008 1:44:25 AM)

Well, when I answer the million-dollar question using this pointless piece of information, I'll remember to share the profits 50-50 with you, somekindof_battery!

Rob -> RE: who should they be? (16/9/2008 3:13:50 PM)

It certainly won't happen due to his involvement in another franchise but I think Chris Evans would be a very good Hal Jordan.

Incanus -> RE: Green Lantern (17/9/2008 1:48:02 PM)

Neither of them is the part -- plain to see -- but I like both, generally speaking.

Mr Terrific -> RE: Green Lantern (28/9/2008 11:08:30 AM)

Latino Review has a script review of the above.

It seems respectful to his comic book origins and full of action.

Latino Review were the first site to come out with a review of the Batman Begins script so are a bit more reliable than Ain'titcool.

It sounds potentially very good. I am still a bit worried about the glowing big green shapes the ring will produce and how the effects will be good rather than cheesy but the script sounds like a real winner.

This depends on the director, I read that the studio execs love the script and are prepared to spend some coin on it.
I think if this script is greenlighted, it will come out after Supermax. Possibly before a Superman film is released. It will also feature a cameo from a certain mild mannered reporter.

sanchia -> RE: Green Lantern (28/9/2008 1:06:01 PM)

I also like that there is going to be mention of Alan Scott in the film. It looks like they are playing towards the comic fans and those new to the character. This definitely sounds better than the Jack Black comedy that was previously mooted.

Mr Terrific -> RE: Green Lantern (28/9/2008 1:32:46 PM)

Hopefully it is greenlighted soon. Sounds good, even though I am not a Green Lantern fan I am interested.

If released before a Superman film, could be good as there would be the possibilty of featuring Green Lantern in Superman film.
A Superman film, in which he is not the only Superhero with superpowers could be an interesting thing to see. Not quite the Justice League but cause geekoid orgasm.

Geldart -> RE: Green Lantern (1/10/2008 3:20:12 PM)

this film has been green lit! why aren't more people disscussing this?
personally, i think that dennis quaid in the film inner space reminds me a lot of how i would like to see hal jordan on film.go tuck pendleton!!

Rob -> RE: Green Lantern (7/10/2008 2:09:33 PM)

Has anyone seen Eli Stone?  Seeing as the proposed director of the GL film is also the writer / director of Eli Stone what about Johnny Lee Miller as Hal Jordon?

I haven't seen Eli Stone so don't know if it's any good but Lee Miller has certainly been very good in most things I've seen him in.

Mr Terrific -> RE: Green Lantern (9/10/2008 11:12:18 AM)

Ryan Gosling for the Green Lantern role?

adambatman82 -> RE: Green Lantern (9/10/2008 1:09:40 PM)

while i had hoped for gosling to play captain america, his name alongside this gives me an interest in the project. to be honest, seeing gosling in anything is always good so heres hoping.

Rob -> RE: sounds like a plan (14/10/2008 10:00:59 AM)

My first thoughts regarding Gosling as Green Lantern are pretty much exactly the same as when I heard Ledger was cast as the Joker.  "Tremendous actor, probably a lovely guy but is he the Joker......NO"

Given how spectacularly wrong my pearl of wisdom proved to be I should probably refrain from offering any comments on casting.  But.....

Gosling is a tremendous actor but is he Hal Jordan.....NO.   Just don't see it. [:D]

when will we get a flash film i wonder

When they can figure out how to have that suit on screen without it looking completely pants. [;)]

Mr Terrific -> Martin Campbell to direct? (5/2/2009 11:29:48 AM)

Is Martin Campbell in consideration to direct script that has been made?

More Here

Timon -> RE: Martin Campbell to direct? (5/2/2009 1:20:01 PM)

How about Josh Lucas as The Green Lantern?

How about NO (in my best Dr Evil accent)![;)] He's just too much of a smarmy bastard!

I wonder if something like this needs an A-List actor,.....like Will Smith (if going with John Stewart) or even Ewan McGregor (Hal  Jordan) to carry this movie? ........Methinks it does unfortunately!

Dunno about Will Smith, I am thinking more Terrence Howard, Chiwetel Ejiofor

BatFan -> RE: casting (19/3/2009 6:08:01 PM)

I don't know what little birdie has been speaking to you but I read on aintitcool that Gosling has been offered the role 3 times and each time he turned it down. It was also offered to Emile Hirsch but he also turned it down and it was offered to Sam Worthington but he couldn't do it because it clashed with his filming if the Clash Of The Titans remake.

Just a small piece of info here, it starts shooting in September

Does anyone else think that if Nolan doesn't make Batman 3 for 2011, Warners will move Green Lantern from December 2010 to Summer 2011, now that Marvel's Avengers has been moved to 2012 there's room for an epic superhero film now.
Also I was watching a few episodes of The Wire and I thought Dominic West could make a pretty good Hal Jordan, he's got the heroic look, a good american accent and is a good actor. Another Wire cast member I thought would be good is Idris Elba as John Stewart, he'd be perfect for it imo.

EDIT: Looks like Chris Pine has been offered the role.
http://latinoreview.com/news/offer-out-to-chris-pine-for-green-lantern-6408
Personally I think he'd do a good job of it, he's got the look, he seems to be agood enough actor from Smokin Aces and the trailers for Star Trek look promising. But I don't think he will accept it. I don't think he will want to be in two franchises at once, I know Christian Bale is in Batman and Terminator but they are very different films. Star Trek and Green Lantern are much more similar to each other.

Snake-Eyes -> GREEN LANTERN....? (21/3/2009 1:41:25 PM)

I loved the character - I recall reading EMERALD DAWN and I love the lesser-known GL members i.e. KILOWOG and TOMAR-RE. however, I reckon that with only a few rare exceptions, comic / Superhero adaptations work better as Animated Features / Series rather than live-action. DC Animation has been kicking out some very impressive dvd releases of late. This looks cool  -

Rob -> RE: casting (25/3/2009 11:05:11 AM)

Chris Pine's a very good choice in my opinion. He's certainly got the look and can act. I think they'd really need to flesh out the supporting characters with some really strong, well established actors though as I'm note sure he's well known enough to carry a franchise.

Timon -> RE: The Green Lantern (6/5/2009 6:49:47 PM)

I like the idea of B radley Cooper being the Green Lantern. I've seen him in several things (He's Just Not That Into You, Wedding Crashers, Yes Man) and always thought he's was heading for the big leagues... this could be it.

Of course, I know bugger all about the character so only you die-hard fans can tell me if his casting is a good idea. Hopefully Campbell will bring his A-game (a la Mask of Zorro, Casino Royale) rather than slumming it (Vertical Limit).

BatFan -> RE: The Green Lantern (7/5/2009 11:12:19 PM)

I knew it

http://www.superherohype.com/news/greenlanternnews.php?id=8314

Green lantern has been pushed back to June 17th 2011. I think this is DC/WB knowing that Batman 3 isn't going to be made by summer 2011, because there's no way that Warners would release 2 high profile comic book films in one summer.
At least it gives it more time for sfx and perfecting the film.
Interesting to note that June 17th is the same release date for Thor. Personally I think one of them is going to be moved. No studio would release a blockbuster the same week as another big comic book film, it'd severly reduce the takings. It's just a question of which?

So if I'm right summer 2011 will have Green Lantern, Spiderman 4, Thor and Captain America?
Jesus that's gonna be one hell of a summer.

On the Bradley Cooper note, I think if it's true it's a great piece of casting. Kinda like Downey Jr in the sense that you never think of him but once you hear it, it makes sense. I always thought he'd make a greta captain america, but I reckon he'd be good as Hal Jordan too, especially as the producers said that Green Lantern is gonna be a light hearted Iron Man kinda film as opposed to a Dark Knight, serious and moody film. Cooper has very good comic skills aswell as being a good dramatic actor.
