AquaDragon2K -> Some Films Should Be Left Alone (20/8/2008 10:54:48 AM)

Not so keen on this at all

Bond1971 -> Another pontness remake (20/8/2008 10:54:56 AM)

They're here! Question is, why?

waltham1979 -> (20/8/2008 11:07:31 AM)

oh for fucks sake

jpt1976 -> It isn't going to be... (20/8/2008 12:21:39 PM)

...as scary as the original is it? The cast should start praying the 'curse' of the original doesn't come back.

jinks -> (20/8/2008 12:22:15 PM)

Is nothing sacred anymore? Jesus Christ Hollywood, do you have ANY originality left?!!!!

cunningmunki -> Soon forgotten (20/8/2008 12:28:48 PM)

Don't worry, it'll come out, it'll be shit, no one will be interested in it, and it'll be quickly forgotten. A few years after it's release people will be saying, 'do you remember that really bad remake of Poltergeist?' And people will reply - 'no'.

Severen -> (20/8/2008 12:29:53 PM)

No, no, no, no, fucking no !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hands Randall -> RE: (20/8/2008 12:53:27 PM)

Lazy Hollywood arseholes.

Vito_Andolini -> RE: RE: (20/8/2008 1:10:35 PM)

Jesus Tapdancing Christ... the way things are going, this is what the future holds...

2019 Summer Schedule:

The Matrix starring Freddie Highmore
Hostel
Childs Play
Planet of the Apes Remake Remake
King Kong Remake Remake Remake
Saw XVI
High School Musical XXV

granny -> Low-Rentaghost! (20/8/2008 1:18:11 PM)

It'll be a 12A probably.
I wonder if Yvette Fielding and Derek Acoroh will be in it?

I'm still waiting for the Ghoulies and Troll remakes.

DanishMovieChick -> (20/8/2008 1:19:25 PM)

Doing af remake of Poltergeist is borderline blasphemic...
What a terrible idea.

But on the other hand, the original really lacks goodlooking young actors/actresses/models who couldn't act if their life depended on it....

broonie -> RE: RE: (20/8/2008 1:21:15 PM)

Very disappointed to hear this. The original is one of the genuinly scariest films ever IMO. "Classic" Horror remakes are shit, examples as follows:

The Omen remake
Amytiville Horror remake
Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake

I think the screenwriters and studio execs who have proposed this Poltergiest remake should walk into the light, and have the spirits kick the shit out of them.

God forbid if anyone attempts an Evil Dead remake.

echofalls -> Re-making Spielberg (20/8/2008 1:22:14 PM)

Even 'produced / written by' Spielberg is a bad omen...who's up for a Raiders re-do...!

britesparc -> (20/8/2008 1:24:13 PM)

I'm surprised Spielberg doesn't have a say in this. The project was pretty close to his heart at the time (he wrote it, and essentially directed it by proxy, so the story goes), so I'd have thought he'd be able to nix any prospective remake. Anyway, cunningmunki is right, this'll be shite and quickly forgotten.

And there's one of my problems with the current spate of remakes (beyond the fact that they shouldn't be done at all) - they are al lcast far too young to be even remotely interesting. Jo Beth Williams and Craig T Nelson were picthed just right i nthe original - aging hippies (check out the pot scene) who had embraced the 'Amercian dream' which promptly turned into a nightmare. The remake will doubtless have a lead couple who's age over and above the kids will be highly suspect!

karinflamethrower -> Oh. Good. Lord (20/8/2008 1:26:01 PM)

This film is perfect. There is absolutely no need to remake it. GET YOUR OWN IDEAS, YOU LAZY WHORES! I have to stop there though, I'm afraid - or the ranting will never end.......I hope their fucking heads fall off

The Tingler -> Couldn't care less anymore (20/8/2008 1:43:17 PM)

You know what? I don't give a s*** anymore. Let Hollywood remake whatever they damn well like, because no amount of bitching on forums is going to stop America from doing what it does best after war and religious hypocrisy - remaking movies (whether other country's or their own) to death.

There's not going to be a mass-burning of Poltergeist DVDs when the film comes out. Everyone's just going to go straight back to the original and the remake will be ignored and forgotten. See Halloween, The Omen, The Amityville Horror, The Wicker Man...

rupert303 -> RE: Couldn't care less anymore (20/8/2008 2:03:07 PM)

Now this has to be a first, someone remaking a Steven Spielberg movie (oops, sorry, Tobe Hooper).

El Beardio must be loosing his schutzpah.

Kazuya -> RE: Poltergeist To Get The Remake Treatment (20/8/2008 2:10:18 PM)

It had to happen, but there's no need. The original is perfect.

chargomp -> WHYYYYY???? (20/8/2008 2:46:26 PM)

IF IT AIN"T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT! For pity sake people, leave that movie alone, it's genius without your grubby little paws all over it!

Manfrendshensindshen -> WARNING! (20/8/2008 3:23:08 PM)

Young aspiring Hollywood actors: don't even think about joining this project or you'll be CURSED!

notbad -> (20/8/2008 3:38:47 PM)

Ugh. Let me get this straight. MGM is taking two writers, whose biggest credit is the steamy pile of shit BOOGEYMAN, and having them remake a classic film that was co-written by Spielberg, directed by Tobe Hooper and starred Craig T. Nelson and JoBeth Williams. Am I reading this right?

Why doesn't MGM save themselves some time and money and simply mail a nicely wrapped turd to every moviegoer who would consider paying to see this crapfest.

tetchy -> Honestly...... (20/8/2008 4:04:03 PM)

........is Hollywood that hard up for new ideas they have to start remaking/re-imagining everything?
I have a perfectly good original screenplay sitting here waiting to be snapped up and no-one wants to know.
It's a mad mad mad mad mad world.

rich -> LAZY WHORES (20/8/2008 4:16:45 PM)

This is getting ridiculous, really. Havent they learnt that every remake they do is really bad? (not including "proper" remakes like The Fly or The Thing).

Spaldron -> RE: LAZY WHORES (20/8/2008 4:30:20 PM)

I know this will upset some people but I never found Poltergiest very scary, it comes across more like a showcase for ILM at the time. The sequel was much better I thought, especially the creepy dude who follows Carol-anne everywhere. And the first one didnt have that cool Indian guy. Dont forget the Dawn of the Dead remake which was comparable to the original.

Chances are though the remake will just be an excuse to update the special effects and restart the franchise $$$.

ryanh75 -> poltergeist..check (20/8/2008 4:53:24 PM)

right, thats checked off the list, whats next on the list?

Teen Wolf
Goonies
Back to the Future
and Joe Vs the Volcano

bcollin1 -> (20/8/2008 5:18:23 PM)

I dont understand how anybody can consider Poltergeist a classic it was always rubbish and never scary.

johnwhelan85 -> ? (20/8/2008 6:00:05 PM)

Why? Why? Oh Why? While i didn't think the scary was that scary, the film is a classic just because it tells the story. And who do they get to follow the Genius that is Spielberg with the dosey shites that scribed Boogeyman!
I'm not against making remakes (The Thing, The Fly, Oceans Eleven all great remakes) but why dont Movie Makers consult critics or fans regarding remakes. Some film definately deserve a remake, such as Clash of the Titans and Highlander, but that's because they CAN be made better. But how can any remake match..or even better the original Poltergeist? Answer, it can't. Just save your money MGM

Sadly, very true. The studio's just taking a punt in the hope of a payday. I can't see the writers of Boogeyman being the artistic talent capable of reimagining one of the 80's most iconic horror movies, though.

What with this and the proposed Bill Hicks biopic, its a bad news day.
