NinjaShortbread212 -> RE: Anyone into metal here? (4/9/2011 2:16:14 PM)

I'm truly looking forward to Machine Head's new album and have high hopes for it.

Other stuff I love are; Rammstein, Sepultura, Gojira, Metallica... I missed Bloodstock this year but then there's always next!

Rebel scum -> RE: Anyone into metal here? (7/2/2012 7:31:45 AM)

As far as metal goes, I prefer classic metal-Maiden, Judas Priest, Motorhead, Sabbath, the Metallica-Megadeth-Slayer-Anthrax four, AC/DC, Alice Cooper, Pantera, Dio, Queensryche. Hell, I even like all the 80s hair metal nonsense, especially Motley Crue and Poison.

As far as modern stuff goes, I don't think anyone's mentioned Between the Buried and Me, Five Finger Death Punch, Black Label Society, Dream Theater, or In Flames, all of which I love. I'll second the love for Machine Head and Mastodon.

Same here. Although the fact that Squid likes the same band as me will force me to take a long hard look at myself. [;)]

I still have time for Maiden and Metallica. I enjoyed a little Megadeth and Pantera in my youth, but now they just make me laugh and wince a bit. Especially Phil Anselmo, the angry 13 year-old trapped in a muscular red-neck's body, right down to his GNB cover lyrics.

I can understand that for Pantera, but Megadeth's been releasing some great stuff recently, and I still love all their 80s-early 90s stuff. Maybe it's because it was one of a few bands that got me into the genre.

horribleives -> RE: Anyone into metal here? (7/2/2012 11:17:35 AM)

For the past week I've listened to nowt but Mastodon, Neurosis and Isis. It's been lovely.

They're a bit bonkers, aren't they? Could you recommend a starting point?

All their albums are brilliant but if I were you I'd just dive straight in with the newest one, The Hunter - it's slightly more accessible than their others due to the songs being generally shorter and more melodic but it's every bit as heavy, experimental and batshit crazy as their more proggy/post-rock-inclined moments. Stand-outs for me are Stargasm, Octopus Has No Friends, The Sparrow and the quite astonishing Creature Lives.

Some brilliant stuff there. I got incredibly excited when I saw Raise The Dead in that list. They were one of the best bands in the UK and it was such a shame when they split. They'd just got a new drummer and put a demo track on Myspace which, in most parts, was fantastic. Lovely guys as well. Seas of Dead Souls is genuinely one of my favourite songs ever.

He was a better vocalist anyway. Howard should just stick to Blood Has Been Shed.

DancingClown -> RE: Anyone into metal here? (7/2/2012 1:21:47 PM)

Ooh, I just remembered I've been listening to this new-wave Danish Djent band called The Interbeing, they're very good, got a great cinematic, futuristic sound to them. Another new band I like is Falloch, a kind-of Death/Folk/Metal band from Scotland. I also like In Mourning and Winterfylleth.

And oh God, how could I ever forget these guys?

Perfect weather for them as well....

Spaldron -> RE: Anyone into metal here? (7/2/2012 1:52:06 PM)

Couple of bands I've been spinning recently are Darkane, a Swedish melo-death band that've been around for a while and Revocation who I'm just getting into. Also check out Savage Messiah. [:)]

Agreed, did you hear Times of Grace?

Arron_ -> RE: Anyone into metal here? (7/2/2012 2:01:32 PM)

I'll be honest, I've never heard of Times of Grace. My laptop is broken too so I can't have a listen, which is rubbish.

What's the best gig that everyone has been to?

I have to say, Dillinger Escape Plan at the Cockpit in Leeds, many years ago, was an absolute treat.

NinjaShortbread212 -> RE: Anyone into metal here? (7/2/2012 2:03:02 PM)

I can't wait for Bloodstock in August! [:D] I'll be seeing Cooper, Sepultura and ANVIL!

Result.

Iron Maiden, Paris. September 9th, 1999. It was Bruce Dickinson's first comeback show and it was immense. Seen Maiden 12 times since but none have topped that.

Others of note;

White Zombie - Glasgow '96
Pantera - Ozzfest '98
Black Sabbath - Ozzfest '98
Deftones - Glasgow '01
Machine Head - Glasgow '07
Slipknot - Glasgow '09
Napalm Death - Edinburgh '00
Slayer - Glasgow '99
Dragonforce - Glasgow '08

Anyone here into Watain? I've been listening to this album pretty much non stop for the last 3 days. Legions Of The Black Light has a killer main riff and the vocals are fucking cool. The whole thing is awesome really.

Saw them live a couple of years ago and it was one of the most intense, beautiful, hypnotic and downright loud experiences I've ever had while totally sober. Celestial Lineage is fucking awesome too - totally transcends the term 'black metal'.

The only metal song I like is this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWH2BzhJ62I&feature=related

and that's because it was CM Punk's entrance music.

Swoz_MK -> RE: Anyone into metal here? (8/2/2012 2:12:57 PM)

I bet Ian Mackaye sees pictures of CM Punk and just weeps.
