The Visual FX one looked like it was going to be the best of the bunch, at 41 mins, and started off interestingly, but about 30 mins of it was a lecture on how they performed the digital doubling and cgi etc and it got pretty dull. Nothing particularly spectacular. [image]http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51QWN94XB5L._SL500_AA300_.jpg[/image] In the Line of Duty (IV) - the interview with Donnie Yen, about 20 mins. He's a little bit cocky as usual, but quite interesting chat about actually kicking Michael Woods quite a lot, and the flying kick to knock a motorcyclist of his bike. [image]http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51ArqNTs68L._SL500_AA300_.jpg[/image] Come Drink with Me - the interviews with Cheng Pei-pei (star) and Tsui Hark (fan), both talking about the film and working with King Hu (Tsui on the later film, Swordsman). Both are interesting, but Tsui's enthusiasm, talking about seeing the film at the cinema in the 60s and the innovations Hu had made was probably the better of the two. Extras RT: 52

I learned that there have actually been about 8 films made in the Young Thugs series, the first few being based directly on the semi-autobiographical novels of Nakaba Riichi. I'd previously only been aware of three - the two Miike Takashi ones (including Innocent Blood) and the original film by Izutsu Kazuyuki. Pretty mad that they continued this series for so long, with other directors taking the helm, and ultimately moving away from the soure material and focussing on the youth of gangster character, Isami (the author of the novels actually appears in Innocent Blood as Isami). Anyway, a decent enough extra feature for one of Miike's better (IMO) films. Extras RT: 52

Watched the extras on the 'Incredible Hulk' Blu Ray. They weren't too shabby, most of them were in HD which was nice, but there was the usual feeling of Deja-Vu you get when watching the extras off of any special effects heavy film. Most of them revolved around The Hulk and Abomination design process, how they were animated and the Mo-Cap used, and how the three main action sequences were directed. Lots of deleted scenes, but they were all pretty yawnsome and I can see why they were removed. And an alternate 5 minute opening for the film, which had completed effects and surround sound, I prefer the original opening but it was still interesting to see. And was it just me or did Louis LeTerrier seem a little intimidated by Norton? On a lot of the behind the scenes stuff it really appeared that if ever the two of them were together then it was Norton who was running the show. Strange[&:]

And felt about the same - 40 mins of deleted scenes that for the most part belong deleted. More interesting were the behind the scenes bits, though I'd have been quite happy if they were all in a single documentary. Just the commo to go, then..... One on the dream team of Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Yuen Woo-ping and Peter Pau, one on the two women, one on the filming locations around China and one on the enormous standing sets of Hengdian studio. The latter two have been the most interesting so far (I guess cos the filmmakers aren't specifically kissing anyones asses!). Extras RT: 55

Most of it's pretty good and interesting, particularly the big 2.5 hour making of thingy. [image]http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51rPXdb0BKL._SL500_AA300_.jpg[/image] Mad Detective - the Q&A with Johnny To and the interviews with him, Lau Ching Wan and Lam Suet. The Q&A was done just after the audience had watched The Mission, and there were a couple of spoilery sounding bits. I haven't yet seen it, so that was a bit of an annoyance. There's some interesting tidbits in there. To saying that in 1960s HK, there were 3-400,000 triads in a population of 6 million - so everyone knew some gang members personally. Whilst I don't know the accuracy of his figures, it certainly helps explain why there has been such an abundance of HK triad films. Also, To explains that around 20 of his earliest films were just money-makers for the studios, and it wasn't until 1996 that he started actually making the kind of films he wanted to. 'batman'-the making of docs on disk 2-jack seems to think the success of the movie was down to getting word out at the oscars that year! man of the match was michael uslan, who went from doing a lecture series on comic books to getting 'batman' on screen after years in development.

The 4 interviews, making of and soundtrack featurettes were pretty limited and nothing special. Kim Ji-woon's (45 minute) short film Coming Out was worth a watch, if a little odd! I am currently struggling with The Matrix Revisited. I was hoping it would be up to the standard of what to me are the Gold Standard in dvd documentaries - Aliens and Star Wars 1-3 but its just not grabbing my attention. There is too much arse-kissing of the Wachowskis for a start, everyone speaks about them as if they are near mythical beings that have blessed us with their presence.

In the former, there's a little too much ass kissing and not enough about the Japanese cast performing in English, or how come Tarantino was in it. At the end, the narrator even says that it's "the best film in the history of Japan". Ha ha! [&:] Seriously, it's not even anywhere near the best film from this director, never mind in the whole of Japanese cinema. Extras RT: 60

Iron Man Making of. Really in-depth but never boring. RDJ is a really funny guy, even off-screen! [:D] Dangerous Days - Making of Blade Runner Fantastic documentary. I love listening to Sir Ridley.

Mrs 123's on a bit of a mission to get a load of extras watched, so the dvds can be classed as Done and moved from under the telly to the dvd shelves... Several of the films still have outstanding commentaries, though. So, I've seen extras from a variety of films in the last couple of days, including - One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Memento, Eagle vs Shark, Tales of Earthsea, Jerry Lewis films The Bellboy and The Patsy, Hitchock's The Lady Vanishes and Strangers on a Train, plus Shameless S5 commentaries. Mrs 123's watched several more too - starting to go a bit mental now though! when i watch dvd's now, im trying to watch the film then watch the extra's after it before i watch something else. Mainly due to the fact that i have so many special features i aint watched, and i like to watch them when a movies fresh in my memory. I did it with Alien Vs. Predator (which i enjoyed, fuck y'all), and i just did it with Rob Zombie's 'Halloween'... bit of a let down if im honest, the Devil's Rejects came with a cracking package, but this seemed like a bit of a weak deal. The featurettes were actually pretty good, they just wasn't very long. I didn't bother with the deleted scenes, but i did watch the alternate ending (which was kind of lame). Zombie commentary track was pretty decent too, nothing really groundbreaking to say, but some nice little pieces of info. I say it was a let down because i found out after i purchased it that a big 3 disk region 1 dvd had been released with a 4 hour making of. doc!! It's kind of gay because it's a new movie and surely they could have released that thing originally?? i have no problem when they re-release movies years down the line, but to re-release a movie merely a year after it came out is kind of shitty (Zodiac im also staring in your direction!!).

Also Kurata's martial arts school thing (these things are rarely a fun watch), the deleted scenes (a couple of scenes with some quite abrasive dialogue) and an utterly pointless ass-kissing "analysis" from Brett Ratner and Elvis Mitchell. Just the commentary to go... [image]http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51%2Bp2q2IhDL._SL500_AA300_.jpg[/image] Zodiac (Director's Cut) - Jeez, this is going to take me forever. Don't get me wrong, I liked the film, but there's a proper chunk of extras isn't there? I'd already sat through both commentaries, so I decided to crack on with the other bits, without realising how long they are. I watched the 54 minute Zodiac Deciphered doco, and then I quit. Had a quick look at what I've got left to watch... Visual Effects (15 mins), Pre-Viz (9 mins), This is the Zodiac Speaking (102 mins), His Name Was (42 mins). So just another 2� hours in total.... Ok, but there's a Russian translation (by one guy) played over the clips of the film and the interviews with non-Russian cast and crew, which surely could have been omitted from the UK release. Some insight into the complexities of making a film where the director and a third of the crew are Russian, most of the rest of the crew and supporting cast were Chinese, the star was Japanese and the film was in Mongolian. [image]http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51JEoZof9IL._SL500_AA300_.jpg[/image] The Incredible Hulk - Commentary with Leterrier and Tim Roth. Ok, but could have done with Ed Norton's input. Lots of behind the scenes stuff in the "Fallen Empire" 80 minute doco. Definitely worth a watch if you liked the film. This is Spinal Tap - Over 1 hours worth of deleted scenes & outtakes, all edited together. It's funny as fuck & almost as good as the main feature. Superman IV - Extremely apologetic commentary by Screenwriter Mark Rosenthal...very funny and a lot more enjoyable than listening to Alexander Salkind worm his way through the Superman III commentary. The Phantom Menace - 'The Beginning - the Making of Episode I' is still the best documentary on any DVD.

saw the new 20min featurette on Rambo: First Blood Part 2. Great little piece, it's one of them ones that reflects on a movie rather than a featurette which is there to promote it (alot of features are filmed for promotional purposes before a film is released). It's good though, fast paced and some interesting info. I plan on watching the commentary later now. Crazy film.
