I have no problem with this so long as it doesn't have any pointless supernatural elements tacked onto it and its FUN!!! Basically it needs to be closer in tone to the fun, light first POTC movie than the turgid, dark, yawn inducing cack that was the third Pirates film. Oh, and no more three hour running times either please...my numb arse couldn't take it.

yeah this isn't very excitable, but if they put as much effort into it as the did with the first pirates movie then it might be okay.  As for casting Nathan Fillion could be a good choice but would it end up just being another chance for Malcolm "Mal" Reynolds to grace our screens?

I think that Nathn Fillion would be brilliant for that character because of his before mentioned role as mal in firefly/serenity and him doing the voice for the superhero the vigilante in the JLU cartoon it would be interesting to see how dark it could be made.

no-one thought Pirates of the Carribbean would make any sense but it did (well, in a money-making context anyway) but it will need some more inspired casting to make it work. I'd go for Giovanni Ribisi as the Lone Ranger.....

They will , of course , want a new franchise here . To be honest could be a good idea , although as already said keep it simple - that was Pirates 3s problem - .
Wasnt his brother his main enemy or summat ? And some connection with the "hole in the wall gang"... anyhoo they will probably re - invent it .

Fillion would be cool but it'll probs be the usual Bruckheimer shite. My minds blanking so I can't think of anyone to star that wasn't in 3:10 to Yuma. Bale, Crowe, Foster, Mol.....hmmm.....Although Johnny Depp is a fucking genius I thought Pirates 3 was really poor. A good star evidently wasn't enough to stop it being complete crap. It'll probs be Orlando Bloom. Or maybe Vin Diesel....

NATHAN FILLION! Simple, the dude would be fucking brilliant as the Lone Ranger. And after a carear that has been expansive but never realy going anywhere (firely/Serenity seems dead in the water, Drive was cancelled..? What thirty second into the pilot? White Noise 2 (although i liked it) did horribly at the cinema. And of course his guest star in LOST, which made me all happy and giddy inside)

I think it needs to a be daft, exciting throwback Western - mebbee tone down the dodgy stereotypes, but plenty of "black hat/white hat" shenanigans, horseback chasing, shoot-outs, train sequences, poker games, a big-ass bar room brawl...

Don't try to make it all dark like the dreadful Pirates sequels - that sucked. Keep it light, don't turn it into a shit trilogy, keep it PG, keep it funny - that's what this needs!

Everyone assumes that Hollywood movies would be better if they were aimed at older audiences, but that's not true - sometimes they should be aimed younger. Everything's aimed at 12-18 year old boys! Let's have some proper escapism, without angst or masturbation references.

I'm really looking forward to the next Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy (it should be a trilogy, as far as I'm concerned), but this looks like it'll be more than satisfactory in the meantime.

And yes, Nathan Fillion should definitely play the Lone Ranger.  His character of Mal Reynolds in Firefly and Serenity proves that he has the necessary wit, charm, and heroism, and would be perfect to anchor a film with a similar fun, western adventure feel.  Of course, this is provided that it doesn't get in the way of any further adventures in the Firefly 'verse (I'm still holding out hope...)

Weird that I should read this - I thought of a Lone Ranger-style story a couple of years ago, not aware that the origins of the character in MY version were the same as the original!
