Empire Admin -> Exclusive: Death Proof Trailer (31/8/2007 9:53:16 AM)

Post your comments on this article

Pledgey3000 -> Whatever. (31/8/2007 9:53:16 AM)

I couldn't care less anymore. "Arse Proof" more like.

mirzatahirahmad3 -> (31/8/2007 9:55:56 AM)

Looked kinda crap

keyzersaulsie -> Quentin Tarantino is the single most important US film-maker to emerge since David Lynch. (31/8/2007 10:03:13 AM)

Admittedly Kill Bill Vol 1 and Vol 2 was the self-indulgent work of a writer-director in need of a script editor. It's a damn sight better than 90% of anything else out there, getting released every single month of the year.

Any nay-sayers can't argue with the fact that Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction paved the way for the best films of the 1990s. Where it not for the critical and commercial success of both brilliantly written films, the renaissance in intelligent film-making since their release would never have happened.

Death Proof may be the return to form fans have been hoping for from Tarantino. Kurt Russell in his best role in decades? Bring it on.

SKUSH Man -> No (31/8/2007 10:14:30 AM)

That's rubbish, Quentin is enjoyable but over rated.

ilovekaren -> (31/8/2007 10:22:54 AM)

not a very good trailer it completly dissasociates itself from grindhouse looks more like a comedy than a slasher movie i am so sad about the way this movie is being released i have no doubt that this movie will be friggin great in fact i'll probably have it on dvd befor eit comes out over here but this film has been tainted by the wienstiens corporate bullshit and you know they are going to release them on dvd separte first the put them back together in the grindhouse way so we have to fork out twice for the bloody movie. the dvd is even being released with the trailers i am so gutted bout this movie please quentin put grindhouse back together please please please

the ageless stranger -> This film sucks donkey balls..... (31/8/2007 10:26:36 AM)

......at least 75% of it is irritating ethic stereotype chicks sitting around talking about trying to get laid, and boring the arse off the audience, until you honestly don't care who wins the car chase. Now, long patches of dialogue in a Tarantino movie used to be a fine thing, but he doesn't seem to be able to write anything remotely interesting anymore.

britesparc -> What's with all the negativity? (31/8/2007 10:40:10 AM)

This film has got great word-of-mouth even from allegedly "highbrow" critics (not just fun-lovers like Empire). Fair enough if, like ageless, you've seen it and didn't like it, but I think Tarantino's proved himself a terrific writer and director, and, Grindhouse shenanigans aside, this looks like what I think it is: Tarantino making, essentially, a slasher flick. Dark, comedic, disturbing, with lots of lovely ladies. What else did people expect?

Now, Grindhouse was something else - something different, something kinda funny, an experiment. Still really wanna see that at the flicks, not just as some kind of special edition DVD.

shool -> RE: What's with all the negativity? (31/8/2007 10:57:47 AM)

This just looks like soft porn with the pornstars being murdered at the end.

Not for me thanks.

I love tarantino but dont think I like the way he's gone with this film.

MrSib -> Can't see how making the film any longer will improve it. (31/8/2007 11:09:54 AM)

I'm a QT fan but Death Proof really is over long self indulgent nonsense. You know how everyone praised the dialog in Pulp Fiction. Imagine 90 mins of that with no point to any of it. That's Death Proof.

Hughezy -> (31/8/2007 11:14:19 AM)

looks pretty shite. i mean, does this trailer really say to you "PAY TO SEE ME!".

graemebuckley -> Still on his way down (31/8/2007 11:27:37 AM)

Quentin will be around forever. Period. Even though his films have got less entertaining since Pulp.
>> Reservoir Dogs was a powerhouse of a film.
>> Pulp Fiction was simply perfect.
>> Jackie Brown tries but fails, still not a totally bad film
>> Kill Bill(s), a film-nerds wet dream, entertaining but not a new film, just a tribute.
>> Death Proof - again, an update with nothing new, still on a slippery slope.

Solution, Quention needs to get back to writing original crime scripts that have no genre exclusive characters - ie Dogs and Fiction.

DazDaMan -> RE: Still on his way down (31/8/2007 11:38:17 AM)

Hmm....

keyzersaulsie -> Can we save the bile for The Wayans Brothers? For Brett Ratner? For all the same-old, same-old shit that gets made all the time? (31/8/2007 11:46:22 AM)

There's a lot of factory-line shit made all the time and Quentin Tarantino makes distinct, intelligent, stimulating, by turns innovative and derivative, post-modern films that redefine the genre and resonate in pop culture.

Of all the films Tarantino has directed, only Jackie Brown has not been copied, parodied, imitated and referenced on television and in film. The classic toupee discussion remains a marvel of modern scripting.

At the time of release Jackie Brown faced the impossible task of being at once a new Tarantino movie and distinctly different from the slew of Pulp Fiction imitators crowding the schedules following the success of his earlier film.

It remains satisfying proof that Quentin Tarantino can direct an adult drama without relying on the techniques he had become synonymous with.

Pulp Fiction isn't quite perfect. The one flaw in the film, personally, is that he cast himself in it.

I put it to Empire Online that he has yet to direct a truly bad feature film.

the ageless stranger -> RE: Can we save the bile for The Wayans Brothers? For Brett Ratner? For all the same-old, same-old shit that gets made all the time? (31/8/2007 12:14:54 PM)

And I put it to you that you haven't actually SEEN the self-indulgent stroke-fest that is Death Proof.

We all know Tarantino likes references to pop culture in his films, but trying to re-create the Reservoir Dogs breakfast table, with a mind-numbingly boring 10 minute long scene of these women prattingly away over pancakes (with NOT ONE quotable line) is surely proof that this man has disappeared up his own arse.

alimac -> Was garbage (31/8/2007 12:23:44 PM)

saw this in the states it was garbage i was so dissapointed because i have loved all of QTs films hopefully he can redeem him self with INGLORIOUS BASTARDS

Scruffybobby -> RE: Was garbage (31/8/2007 12:35:40 PM)

The trailer isn't that great but the movie is. It is a bit slow to get going but In its second half it's great fun. It probably won't win Tarantino any new fans, but if you already are one there's a lot to enjoy.

keyzersaulsie -> RE: Can we save the bile for The Wayans Brothers? For Brett Ratner? For all the same-old, same-old shit that gets made all the time? (31/8/2007 12:38:57 PM)

There was a lot of negative response to the TRAILER posted by Empire Online, not the full film, with a smattering of QT bashing so I thought I'd throw a defence into the ring.

Not jazzed to hear your opinion of the film, appreciate your opinion and am now keeping my fingers crossed that there's plenty in there to love.

casino -> (31/8/2007 12:57:11 PM)

this is a great film, if you are a true Tarantino fan you will love this!!!

steveg66 -> (31/8/2007 1:45:19 PM)

Boycott this film unless they release the Grindhouse double bill complete!

Eregian -> (31/8/2007 2:00:30 PM)

The movie was aready relesed in June in Begium cinema's. But this was one of the, if not THE, most exciting trailers ever!

Pledgey3000 -> Soooo up for boycotting this piece of... (31/8/2007 2:11:12 PM)

Wankery Weinstein produced, money/profit hungry grabbing, try to make the trailer exciting so we'll go see it (i'm not that stuid), re-hashed with crappy extra bits, boring, lame-o, on his way down Tarantino directed, should've stayed to the original setup before Weinstein gots his grubby mits all over it (a la Kill Bill), don't care either way piece of poop.

ravage3d -> gettin on dvd so whats the point of cinema (31/8/2007 2:12:45 PM)

how come the states get this on dvd two whole days before the cinema release of this here. the indrustry have already killed these two movies so will not be going to the cinema to watch these instead ordered the dvds from the usa instead - finger up to the british cinema release dates - far too slow far to picky

dvd release date state side

18/09/2007 = dreathproof
16/10/2007 = Planet Terror

Aceman -> Poor trailer... plus, Planet Terror is better (31/8/2007 2:22:24 PM)

to be honest, the best trailer for this film was the original Grindhouse trailer, as it didn't give too much of the story away, and plus it's way cooler. i've seen the film and it's very good (far from perfect) but this trailer didn't do it justice at all. The film takes ages to get going and does excite and intrigue once it does, but this has to be Quentin's least appealing film so far. And anyway... the other Grindhouse movie, Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror, is so much better than Tarantino's effort. Empire will give it 4/5. So will I.

plum bob -> Hoping for improvment (31/8/2007 2:46:53 PM)

I have seen the Grindhouse version from the states and yes this was a good film but that was it, it certainly wasn't great, i prefered planet Terror by far, however i'm hoping that now i can see it in its intirity it will go from a just a good film to a great film, oh well no long to wait now!!!!

alimac -> should have made Inglorious Bastards instead (31/8/2007 2:51:49 PM)

it's shite really planet terror is better and that wasn't that great either QT has wasted time he could have made inglorious batards instead of this

JJHunsecker_36 -> Juicebox (31/8/2007 3:38:04 PM)

OK, so it's not as good as the original trailer and reeks of old Weinstein chasing the big bucks (once again) by releasing two separate versions but still, it does look cool. QT is STILL one of the most exciting and relevant film makers on the planet, in my view. Dogs and Fiction set an absurdly high template and he'll probably never better either of them. But who knows? Plus, as we all know, no-one is perfect, right?
Anyone know the music featured in this trailer?

dead man -> (31/8/2007 4:16:50 PM)

Ha ha - what a pervert. The 5th film by Tarantino...just a lot of arses.

alimac -> He needs to make Inglorious Bastards (31/8/2007 5:30:56 PM)

He really needs to pull his finger out and make Inglorious Bastards enough is enough wee have been waiting since 2003 the time is now
