Ok, before I run and hide from the torrent of abuse thats about to fly! [:D] Does anyone, anyone, anyone think that The Chronicles of Riddick was actually a bit misunderstood and was actually quite enjoyable?! I say this because Riddick as a character is still interesting, (and even people who hate Vin Diesel must admit that it was a great turn by him in Pitch Black, and even if you think Pitch Black was a slight Alien rip-off it was very good!). Does anyone think Twohy just introduced a quite Dune like extravagance and pure sci-fi worlds and characters that jarred with the first film (Necromongers, Furions etc) in Chronicles? Too much to take or just a bad movie? I think aspects of the film are fantastic, the War like invasion scenes, Riddick (obviously) the Special effects etc, and the ending left me actually wanting to see a bit more of what happens next! C'mon, before you get the Uzi's out at least humour me by saying it's a guilty pleasure!?!? Or is there SOMEONE who likes it. hides behind computer and draws weapons [sm=fighting01.gif] [:D]

I thought it was good. Not a patch on pitch black, but I did enjoy chronicals

Personally, I thought it was a great movie. Not as good as Pitch Black, but an interesting film nonetheless. I never understood the hatred either - perhaps becuase it didn't live up to all the hype and success of it's predecessor.

I've not seen Chronicles, but even the trailor made it look shit. Tell me, is this a future discovered classic, or is it just shit?

I also love it and wish they would continue the series. Riddick killing that guy with the cup always makes me smile.

Agreed [:)] Maybe it was like I said, that the elements of pure sci-fi that were brought into the film, and the vast scale it tried to achieve jarred with critics and audiences that were expecting something more gritty like Pitch Black? It was quite a departure from the first movie I'll give it that, but I really bought into Riddick's world and the Necromongers (bit of a dodgy name though!). The Furion element was good too. And I think the ending, without giving anything away, was great and really well choreographed. i remember renting this out of sheer curiosity thinking it might be shit but i was in the mood for a sci-fi movie.i was pleasantly surprised.while not great by any means,its an enjoyable sci-fi action flick.

i really wanted to like it but some parts are so cheesy and naff,they took what was a great premise and made it into a silly sci-fi universe, the names of the planets and races were so cliche (riddick is a furion,cos ,y'know,hes furious) and the whole thing about the underverse and all that nonsense,the xbox game is miles better than the story for this,pity though as the effects are sets are great

Its better than Serenity!!!!!!!!!!! Honestly really like the film loads. I prefer the unrated version and wished they put most of it in the theatrical release minus the freaky Furion bird who gives Riddick energy near the end. That version introduced Keira better and added more to Karl Urbans Macbeth-esque sub-plot. The ending especailly which, while almost the same, had a few cuts that made it more dark. I've alwasy liked it and thought it was unfairly blasted by critics who labelled it the new Battlefield Earth. Even early screening went well and got some decent reviewes over on AICN et all so I was surprised with the hammering it got.

It had potential but was wrapped up with a bit to much pretentious drivel to elevate it above mediocre. A decent character just a shame he was reduced in the manner he was.

Sci-fi should be overblown, hard to understand and packed to the flux capacitor full of silly names and pointy ears! The key world we are looking for here is ...FUN! Who cares if it doesn't make sense? Who cares if the beginning of the prequal doesn't match up to the end of the sequal? Pitch Black was an awsome film. Chronicles was an enjoyable film. Both films made you forget the grind that is 'real life' for two hours. Isn't that the point?

I think that as with the matrix there was an expectation set with the characters that the sequels didn't live up to, hence the frustration/dislike. Some nice imagery in Chronicles, prision level thing seemed to be lifted out of "Fortress" with a touch of Alien3 griminess though.

Yes.Yes it is,especially with sci-fi,it's as escapist as you can get.As far as escapist fantasy goes I'd much rather watch this than something like Pirates of the Carribean. I love my sci-fi and I loved Riddick.Great cast,excellent costumes,silly names,over-the-top hero,Shakespearian references and the amazing Thandie Newton.Great stuff!!One of the few films where the CGI was a worthy addition to the spectacle. I never listen to the critics when it comes to sci-fi because they inevitably rip into it,especially sequels and it's obvious most of them just don't like Vin Diesel. This is exactly what I want from my sci-fi,some reluctant galactic hero zapping around the universe taking on the bad guys, epic shit with lots of strange planets and space ships and alien beasties.Makes a welcome change from hapless,doomed alien invasion of Earth stories with virtually the same endings. Bring on more Riddick sequels.

It definetely has a problem with a basic narrative structure...but it actually is a good movie. The themes in it were rather good ( Religion was handled rather well), the effects were nice and it was visually beautiful. I surprised myself when watching it, as I really enjoyed it too. In fact, if I had to choose to watch one of the 2 films again I'd choose Chronicles over Pitch Black. Yeah its by no means a perfect film, but its certainly enjoyable fun, and whenever I caught it halfway through on Sky Movies I ended up watching it again. I'd definitely want to see another in the chronicles.
