I finally managed to read a copy of Gutsville issue one.  Quite interesting even if the artwork was a little muddy, it did evoke a good atmosphere for the piece though.

I am finding Hellboy: Darkness Calls hasn't quite reached the heights of the previous Hellboy ministries.  There is something about it which just hasn't caught me in the same manner.  Loving the artwork though.

I dig Daniel Clowes way too much. Speaking of which, seeing as I have almost everything by him now, could someone recommend some similar stuff? I've dabbled with Jeffrey Brown and Craig Thompson and that's all I can seem to find that's similar. Hellllllppppp meeeeeee.

first proper appearance of archangel/death. also imo the first issue apocalypse actually shows some character :) the whole issue is a good debate about whether mutants should conquer or live in peace with humans.

very well done with usual wooden dialogue from cyclops but excellent points from apocalypse!

...also the whole 'omg who are you?' when they first see angel is awful lol - who else would it be?

The first book is a little slight, in that it's setting up the whole thing and feels like a one-trick pony. However, it's only a taster for what's to come, one of the best and most complex, adult, gripping comic books you'll ever read.  Or maybe it's just not your thing [&:][:D]

I thought I'd give it a try on an impulse

[image]http://www.dccomics.com/media/covers/8241_180x270.jpg[/image]

The Vinyl Underground's first issue is an interesting introduction.  The premise is basically what if someone like Callum Best (a nobody celebrity famous for being famous and a serial womaniser etc) was actually using that image as a front and had reformed.  The character set up an Occult detective agency and anonymously goes around solving crimes which have a slightly twisted angle to them.  It does sound a bit like a dodgy 60's TV programme and to a degree reads that way as well, but considering the writer is Si Spencer who has written for Eastenders, Torchwood and Bad Girls it is probably no surprise.  There is a bit too much effort being put into to making the characters seem "cool" and interesting which could almost have come out of a how to book.  It is one I am reserving judgement on as it does come across a touch derivitive and seems to think it is a bit smarter than it actually is but it has caught my interest enough that I will be trying a few more issues before I make a decision.

just wonder where it goes from here...

Maybe as Furry said it's not your bag, but if you can spare the dollar to buy two more volumes I'd stick with it.  Personally I can't get enough of it

very weird introduction to a new hero team in the x-men continuity. I don't know why the writers decided to split colossus, shadowcat and nightcrawler from the main team and replace them with dazzler, longshot and psylocke. whilst psylocke gets very good later on at the moment half the current line up of x-men is shocking. even havok has been bought in.

replacing half the team with sub-par characters and putting the originals into a zany/cross dimension/sci fi themed comic is a bit out there.

....though a drunk captain britain was interesting, showed he wasnt a one dimensional character.

the first of the evolutionary war series of annuals that involve x-men continuity. the only highlight i could think of was apocalypse and the high evolutionarys different opinions on evolution and their discussion.

Immortal Iron Fist 10

Highly recommended.  A true advancement of a long standing character well written by Brubaker and great art.

[image]http://www.marvel.com/comics/onsale/covers/1007/ANNCONSTR004_SM.jpg[/image]

Annihilation Conquest: Starlord 4.

Not necessarily the best comic going but great fun.  Also any comic which has a sarcastic Rocket Raccoon in it has to be worth a look.
