Hardbacks for the special ones are well worth it. I managed to get Planetary in hardback and am glad I did.

Yeah definitely. Speaking of Planetary how did you find that Sanchia? I've been meaning to read it for a long time now. Read the first issue free on comixology and loved it. It seems like a wicked premise, with some mindbending stuff in it.

sanchia -> RE: Last Comic Book You Bought (11/1/2013 6:47:58 PM)

It is a great story with each issue being a different style all tied together by a central story. I think there was only one issue where I was a little meh with it near the end. The Cassady artwork is sublime. I think it is Ellis' masterwork at this time even better than Transmetropolitan.

I've just found out Ellis has another prose book out. Hopefully it is up there with the rather offbeat Crooked Little Vein.

Sounds brilliant! I might give it look somewhere down the line. Transmetropolitan is another title i haven't read properly. I think i borrowed vol 3 from my library sometime back but never managed to finish. Of course its always best to start from the begining of a series. So those two are definitely on my must read list.

sanchia -> RE: Last Comic Book You Bought (11/1/2013 9:22:30 PM)

Transmetroplitan is something which wouldn't really make a whole lot of sense if you don#t read it from the start. It is also as mad as a bag full of badgers.

I had to cancel this order (3 weeks on, fucking Forbidden Planet) because The Nobody was out of stock (perpetually it seems) and it was holding my order up, so today I ordered the following.

Last one i got. Not too sure what to actualy make of it. It's completey mental, based on HG Wells War of The Worlds, its good in places but kinda lacking any sort of urgency that you would kind of associate with an alien invasion and destruction on a massive level.

If anyone's read this...'ouch' to the invisible man!! [&:]

I really enjoyed this, a worthy addition to the first story in my opinion. And the Invisible Man had it coming! [:D]

I've got to be honest and say I've been quite disappointed with this series so far but seeing as I already own vols 1 & 2 the collector in me won't allow me to stop there.

I'll get vol 4 next month or I might ask the wife to get it for me on my birthday.

Edit: I've also ordered a replacement for my copy of Batman Year One after my son knocked a glass of milk over my old copy.

Check this shit out!

THE WALKING DEAD COMPENDIUM ONE (collecting #1 - 48)

I read the first volume (#1-6) a long time ago and loved it. What better way to carry on with the series than in one chunky read? Very looking forward to getting started!

sanchia -> RE: Last Comic Book You Bought (18/1/2013 6:42:02 PM)

The Walking Dead is one of those comics which was great to begin with but has outstayed its welcome as an ongoing. It just has vast issues where it drags for so long with nothing happening that now when something does happen I don't care as the characters are no longer of any real appeal to me.

The first 60 or so issues though were great.

Yeah thats one of the criticism's i've read most about the series. Maybe Kirkman should wrap it up, but sales would probably say otherwise.

Great choice Impqueen! If this is your first reading of Saga then boy are you in for a treat! Its up there in my favourite comics of 2012. Superb!

I got Saga Vol 1 for Christmas after the buzz around and the  recommendations on this thread.  I was a bit dissapointed to be honest.  It just seemed to bounce from pillar to post with no constistant point.  There's some awesome character design and world building, but after reading the whole thing (which I'm guessing must have been half a dozen single issues) I feel like everything in it could have been sorted out in the first 20 minutes of a film (if that makes sense).  I won't be rushing out for the next one.

Sorry to hear you felt that way about it Invader_Ace. Personally i didn't find a problem with pacing - i thought it was set up nicely with time and consideration given to know and learn a little bit about the characters. Seeing as the story is called Saga - Vaughan probably had that in mind and let the story flow rather than rush it. I didn't have a problem with it, like you say there's some really cool world building aswell as a new myth being created in the vein of Star Wars or Lord of the Rings, albeit with a more mature angle than the mentioned 'saga's'. I have to say i found it a fascinating read, and everything for me including pacing, art and writing was in perfect sync. Like Y though before it, i know all might not be plain sailing. We might have a few story arcs which might not be as interesting as the opening 6 issues, but i have to say i'm still very excited by where Saga is heading. The possibilties are tantalising to say the least.

And that's my graphic novel/TPB spending done for the month. Still waiting for Forbidden Planet to send me Batman No Man's Land Vol. 3. Their website is atrocious, it gives no indication whatsoever if anything's in stock or not. I only tend to use them because on large collected editions like No Man's Land they tend to be about a fiver cheaper than amazon or The Book Depository.

Yeah i agree, its bloody abysmal!

But that graphic novel is not. I absolutely loved reading it, got me quite choked up. A real heart-breaker. [:(]

So i did finally manage to find a copy of the above, and had it delivered. So like Harry, i'm pretty much done for this month.
