The hardback is a must! I'd rather pay extra and get that than the paperback because the quality of it is so damn brilliant. Talking of BPRD i must also get back on track with the Hellboy trades. I have the first two but i understand vol 3: The Chained Coffin is when things start getting interesting!

Hellboy's great but yeah, those first couple of trades are primarily short stories. They're not as linear as BPRD, mainly cos' when Mignola started the character, he never really knew if it would take off. So there's a lot of (really great) short, self-contained stories but I guess not much depth or strong story arcs. It's a bit like the Judge Dredd Case Files actually; it takes some time for the overarching story to come in. I've been collecting Hellboy in those massive Library editions; they're amazing if you're a fan of Mignola's art (and Fegredo's great and recent run!)

Looking forward to digging into this last Plague of Frogs. The series works so well when read in these omnibus editions and more Guy Davis art is always a welcome sight! [:D]

the final gap filler for V1 - I now own all 150 issues of the volume one run [:D]

Darth Marenghi -> RE: Last Comic Book You Bought (14/11/2012 6:52:33 PM)

I went to the comics shop this afternoon to buy this

[image]http://robot6.comicbookresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/saga-v1.jpg[/image]

only to discover that Fiona Staples herself was doing a signing in the shop!

What are the odds? [:D]

sanchia -> RE: Last Comic Book You Bought (14/11/2012 7:10:38 PM)

So you now have a signed copy? Lucky devil.

You jammy bastard [:D].

I read issue 7 this morning. Back after a 2 month break and it doesn't miss a step, dropping us right where we left off in issue 6. I'm cancelling pretty much everything I buy monthly and will just start buying the trades instead (far too expensive otherwise) but I can't see me dropping this though (or Swamp Thing or Animal Man till at least after Rotworld's conclusion), the wait between trades would be torturous.

So far I think this might be my 2nd favourite series of all time after Sandman. It's still early days though so there's every chance it'll go lower (or higher!) in my estimation although I can't see it happening. BKV and Staples are on fire at the moment.

talpacino -> RE: Last Comic Book You Bought (15/11/2012 2:50:02 PM)

I too picked up Saga 7. Unsigned unfortunately. [:(]

Also picked up Locke and Key volume 2 and then volumes 6,7 and 8 of Y the last man in a 3 for 2 deal. Schweet.

I don't mind at all, Nexus. [:D] It was Travelling Man in Manchester. Staples was here as part of a comics festival called Thought Bubble in Leeds - but they (Pia Guerra of Y: THE LAST MAN fame was there too) were doing some signings in TM stores in nearby cities during the week.

Whilst I can't comment on tal's scrotal situation I can confirm that a gigantic ballsack does feature pretty prominently in Saga issue #7 [:D].

talpacino -> RE: Last Comic Book You Bought (16/11/2012 9:42:35 AM)

It's bloody massive.

Another good issue. If I had to make a complaint it would be that they're too short. I find myself flying through an issue of Saga a lot quicker than any other.

It's great isn't it.

Anyway I just ordered the following

I've read both the Sandman books but never got round to buying them. Looking forward to gving them both another read.

Vadersville -> RE: Last Comic Book You Bought (20/11/2012 10:57:47 AM)

I was a little gutted that they mentioned Batman Inc (even if it was just one line) because Snyder's Batman run has so far stayed clear of that daft idea and has been all the better for it. In fact, besides Batwing, most of the new DCnU seems to ignore it, with the Batman Inc title taking place in its own canon now. But yeah, all kinds of awesome! Loved it! Although the opening sequence did make Harley's new origin seem even more stupid. If it was such a freak accident that the Joker wasn't killed by the chemical and came out the way he did, how come it was so easily replicated to give new Harley permanently bleached skin as well? But that's a complaint aimed at Suicide Squad writers. Synder and Capullo may well be one of the best Batman teams I've ever read.

Harry Tuttle -> RE: Last Comic Book You Bought (22/11/2012 3:26:53 PM)

Grrr I've just received Endless Nights. Why, oh why do companies still produce over sized graphic novels? The fact that it doesn't sit properly next to all my other Sandman titles is going to drive me fucking spare. There's just no need for it.

Also the New Avengers book I ordered was meant to be Vol 3 (Secrets And Lies) and Vol 4 (The Collective) in one edition. Unfortunately only half of vol 3 is included for some fucking reason. I knew I should have just paid the extra couple of quid and bought both volumes seperately but no, I had to be a stingy twat and now I'm probably going to have to buy them seperately anyway. The collector in me won't accept 3 missing issues for long.

That was bigger than expected, as the actress said to the bishop. Sadly a preorder but good to know it is coming soon.

Harry Tuttle -> RE: Last Comic Book You Bought (23/11/2012 10:16:32 AM)

I got the new Indestructible Hulk which was alright. I've never picked up a monthly Hulk title before but Waid's work on Daredevil, which I strated reading recently, was good enough that I'm willing to see what he can do with the Hulk. By all accounts he seems to be ignoring Jason Aaron's run. Having not read that I can't say it bothers me, by all accounts Aaron's run was pretty divisive anyway, but I am interested enough following issue 1 to continue with it for a while. Waid's Banner seems to be ever so slightly influenced by Rufallo's portrayal in the Avengers film and it did amuse me to see him pretty much trolling Maria Hill in the diner scene.

Unfortunately there's only a few short months till Marvel's next Status Quo changing "event". I dunno why they can't leave it for a year following the Marvel NOW branding, it's obvious that any character receiving a new #1 will be completely safe which undercuts any tension pretty much straight away.

I also enjoyed Batman #14, Nightwing #14, X-O Manowar #7 and Archer & Armstrong #4.

sanchia -> RE: Last Comic Book You Bought (23/11/2012 11:18:48 AM)

Archer and Armstrong was an impulse buy for me. It is surprisingly good with good art to boot.

Harry Tuttle -> RE: Last Comic Book You Bought (23/11/2012 2:19:59 PM)

I've enjoyed all 4 issues so far, it's great fun. I bought issue 1 off the back of really enjoying X-O Manowar and Harbinger and I'm glad I did. This week's attempted recap really tickled me [:D]. I think I'll continue to buy X-O and this but I'm going to start trade waiting for Harbinger as well as a few Image titles (Mind the Gap, Epic Kill, Peter Panzerfaust and Revival) as there are a few titles released in December/January I want to make room for. Namely The Legend of Luther Strode, Change and The End Times of Bram & Ben (all published by Image).

I think my pull list will be shrinking quite a bit in January. I can't justify buying so many monthly titles especially when I end up buying the trades as well more often than not.

BONE ONE VOLUME EDITION

sanchia -> RE: Last Comic Book You Bought (24/11/2012 1:44:21 PM)

Bone will keep you going for a while. Is it a colourised version or the black and white?

Its the original black and white edition Sanchia - and it looks absolutely gorgeous! The colour version is 84 which is too expensive, whereas i bought this for only 19.49. But its gone back up to 25 the last i checked. I'll admit the colourised editions look really beautiful too- but i'm happy with the one i've purchased! And you're right, it'll keep me busy for a while!

sanchia -> RE: Last Comic Book You Bought (24/11/2012 2:18:03 PM)

Personally I think it looks better in black and white. A great story with some great artwork. I wonder what happened about the proposed film they were discussing years ago but seems to have vanished into development hell?

Thats news to me. I didn't realise there was a film a planned. I'll have to look into it. Personally i don't know how they'd film it, unless its a CGI cartoon of course!

Olaf -> RE: Last Comic Book You Bought (24/11/2012 4:28:37 PM)

So so good. bit of a pity that Jeff Smith kind of lost his mind after a while though. a bit like Dave Sim and Cerebus, actually (though not as extreme).

sanchia -> RE: Last Comic Book You Bought (24/11/2012 5:57:52 PM)

I doubt if anyone has lost their mind quite like Dave Sims. [:D]

And reading it it isn't hard to see why! Its so charming, not to mentoon really funny aswell. The Rat Creatures are hilarious. And Jeff Smith's artwork is simply superb. I've read the first few chapters equalling about 60 pages, so another 1240 plus pages to go...

I really liked RASL, which finished up a few weeks ago. Looking forward to getting that in (hopefully) one edition.
