Casting For The Ages
With 17 Again out this week, we thought we'd take a look at cinema's best old/young actor combinations. After The Curious Case of Benjamin Button such shared jobs may soon be a thing of the past, but in the meantime we can admire the great cinema pairings where it takes two people to fill one character's shoes...

Mike O'Donnell | Zac Efron and Matthew Perry
Movies' Best Young And Old Actor Pairings
Mike O'Donnell
Zac Efron and Matthew Perry, 17 Again
The former Friends star reminisces that life was better when he was 17 - and suddenly he's back there again, but now he looks like the perma-grinned star of High School Musical. Somewhere along the way, it seems, he got a lot more sarcastic.

PICTURED Zac Efron and Matthew Perry play Mike O'Donnell in 17 Again

9 La Vie En Rose

RE: La vie en rose Posted on Tuesday April 14, 2009, 00:07 by Klondike160 La vie on rose anyone?? The aging of Edith Piaf is remarkable, and the younger actress has the most amazing voice as well!! ~*~*~*~ Edith Piaf was played by the same actress (Marion Cotillard) in all stages of her life apart from when she was a little child. And her singing voice was dubbed to remastered original Edith Piaf recordings and an Edith Piaf impersonator, not the actress playing her. Still, have to agree, the aging is amazing, surely one of the best biopic performances of all time. Read More

Posted on Sunday April 12, 2009, 16:29 by mvannierop
The Dutch movie Bride Flight (with a small role for Rutger Hauer) has some amazing age casting. Three women Ada (played by Karina Smulders and Pleuni Touw), Esther (played by Anna Drijver and Willeke van Ammelrooy) and Marjorie (played by Petra Laseur and Elise Schaap) each have a romantic encounter with Frank (Waldemar Torenstra and Rutger Hauer) in New Zealand over a period of 40 years. Great resemblances in looks and acting. Read More

Not a great film, I know, but you've gotta admit that Lynn Cartwright, who played the older Geena Davis character at the end of the film looked just like her. I spent ages trying to work out whether it was just great make up. The others weren't bad either. Read More

25 RE: Young Clint = Hugh Jackman
Posted on Thursday April 9, 2009, 16:03 by dantes
I agree with ChrisCas.  I have no idea how Vito Corleone being played by two of the greatest actors (well the greatest, and one very close) of all time in two of the greatest films of all time (again - the greatest and one very close) didn't make the cut!   I would also have had the pairing from Big as it was great to see a kid being played so well by an adult. I'm still not convinced by this ... it was frankly a wee bit jarring when Cate Blanchett's character in Benjamin Button went from being this 16 yr old redhead to Cate Blanchett with lots of concealer on in 3 yrs. The haircut technique does not always work ... Read More
